5.0 out of 5 stars Change of life!
My 19 year old son was always a very hard sleeper. Throughout his school years, we would have shouting matches in the morning trying to wake him up to get to school on time. Mornings were always chaotic and seemed to get off on the wrong foot! We had even tried medication prescribed by his physician to try to help him change his sleep habits. This failed miserably...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works but cheaply made
Excellent in what it is designed to do. However, the base is too small and tips over VERY easilly. The overall construction is very lite duty, you must be careful with it. I am going to glue the base to something more substantial. Other than that works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Change of life!, August 8, 2006
This review is from: Sonic Alert SB300 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock with Large Display (Electronics)
This failed miserably.

When he moved out and went out into the workforce, he had trouble keeping jobs because he was always reporting late to work. Which meant he constantly had trouble paying his bills now that he was living on his own.

One afternoon, he asked us if there wasn't something we could buy that could "shock" him each morning to wake him up. As a last ditch effort to help him, I decided to browse online for something that could "shock" him awake.

I discovered this clock and decided to try it. To get to the point, he has not reported late since I gave him the clock. Thank you Sonic Boom!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Extremely happy with it- does just what we needed., March 23, 2007
This review is from: Sonic Alert SB300 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock with Large Display (Electronics)
I bought this for my 13 year old to be able to wake up for school (6:30am) and not wake up his little brother who sleeps in the same room together with him.

It works like a charm, one of the best things I've bought (now I don't have to wake up then to wake him up!)
i.e. we use the vibratiing mechanism, slipped under his pillow- it goes bananas - no way to oversleep.
We don't use the sound alarm (as mentioned) so I can't really comment on that other than the fact that it is LOUD.

My one gripe with the product is that the vibrating mechanism literally goes bananas shaking and if my son doesn't wake up immediately it ends up falling on the floor. When it shakes (convulses) on the floor it makes too much noise - defeating the purpose. As a simple work around, we're planning on sewing/taping the pillow shut so that the mechanism can't slip out and onto the floor.
For this reason I rated it 4 out of 5 (instead of a full 5 stars).
But I'm very happy with it and planning to get one for my oldest daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works..., March 26, 2006

Putting it politely, this thing can wake the dead. The tone and volume are adjustible and set (im)properly can sound roughly like a cross between nails dragging across a blackboard and a cat being fed into a meat grinder. Combine the bed shaker and a volume control that can be turned up to an ungodly level and you're not going to be the most popular person in the dorm...but you'll never miss an 8am class again. Just don't turn it on on weekend mornings.

For normal sleeping people, the volume can be turned down and the bed shaker disconnected.

This clock is priced nicely and has good features, particularly the large number display. However, no matter how it is set, the alarm sounds like a child learning clarinet: it is an awful way to wake up. It also sends my cats running. If you need an adrenaline rush or this is the only kind of sound you can hear, it might work for you. It makes my teeth hurt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great alarm for those hard of hearing, March 17, 2007

I purchased this alarm w/vibrator for my 85 year old mother who is hard of hearing. She is so hard of hearing that she would sleep through 3 alarms going off at the same time--a buzzer, a radio on LOUD & and second alarm buzzer! With this new Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock, if the buzzer doesn't wake her (and it's pretty loud), the unit's vibrator that is under her mattress pad will wake her for sure. This is a great product!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Meets Requirements, November 10, 2006
By
This review is from: Sonic Alert SB300 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock with Large Display (Electronics)
The clock I got meets the requirements I have, but it is not as good as touted.

Problems: The silent alarm only works on the highest setting, "Vibe and buzz." If set to vibe or buzz alone, it does nothing. The base is very shallow, while the clock is fairly tall, so if you aren't instantly wide awake, you're more likely to knock the clock over than to turn the alarm off.

Bonuses: The display has very large numbers, making it easy to read. It also has 3 brightness settings, which range from so dim it hardly throws any light to bright, which could substitute for the bat-signal.

Overall: I got enough functionality from this clock that I did not return it, but I did not get what I paid for. This seems to be the prevailing opinion with "silent alarm" clocks no matter the manufacturer, so I count myself as satisfied enough to not complain unless asked about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Moly, it's an earthquake!, April 26, 2008
This review is from: Sonic Alert SB300 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock with Large Display (Electronics)
I'm a heavy sleeper, and a bit hard of hearing in my left ear. This alarm clock showed up on Gold Box Deals, so I took a chance.

It works great! While the LED is huge, the overall thickness of the clock is rather thin.

You can set the alarm from soft to extra loud via a dial. You can also change the tone from low to high via another dial. The settings can be locked, so you don't accidently turn the alarm time to something you don't want.

The vibrating part of the alarm is great, and is why I bought this. I put it under my mattress, and while my other two alarm clocks had been going off for ten minutes (I hadn't heard them), when my bed began to shake, I immediately woke up from my deep sleep and there wasn't a chance I was going back to sleep. I haven't timed how long it vibrates, but on my test run of three minutes, it didn't shut off by itself.

If you have trouble waking up, and have wondered about vibrating alarm clocks, this one is great.

You may want to buy this alarm clock only if you really have difficulty waking up. The SB300 Boom could be over-kill if you are a normal riser. Its really meant for someone who is hard of hearing, etc. The vibrator is cool, but I haven't needed it. I love the large display and ease of clock and alarm setting.
