4.0 out of 5 stars So much fun! November 19, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
At first, I was hesitant about picking this up because I played the first one for the Xbox 360 and I didn't think it was all that great. However, with the $40 price point and my need for a racer on my new Wii U console, I decided to give it a shot. I'm very glad I did! I've only played a few hours so far, but every time I thought about taking a break, I thought "one more race".

This game reminds me a bit of the Nintendo 64 classic Diddy Kong Racing, because of the ability to use a car, plane or a watercraft (in this case a boat). If you're a fan of DKR and you don't want to wait until Mario Kart gets a Wii U entry, then I would definitely recommend trying this game out. The graphics are beautiful, the controls are smooth, and the music is great. This seems to me like a nice choice for a party game with a few friends or for families with young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game! November 24, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is probably the best multi user game out for the Wii U at the moment. We played it for hours and hours yesterday and had a great time. Up to five people can race at one time. As someone else said, it is not Mario Kart but it is a pretty darn good racing game. It is definitely worth the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great gameplay on the Wii U! December 26, 2012

Wii U Review:
This game looks and plays great! Major bonus for the option to turn on "motion control" which help my wee little ones in controlling their favorite race characters. The motion control option allows the race vehicles to be controlled by turning the regular Wii controller or the Wii U tablet.

The races are fun and the scenery is really cool. We decided to buy the Wii U game after downloading and playing the demo version on our Wii U console.

The old school gamer in me loves the old SEGA announcement when the game first starts up. Yep, I'm a geek. :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars What a surprise! My favorite Wii U title to date! February 13, 2013
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'm usually not a huge racing game fan or Sonic related spin-offs (Mario vs. Sonic Olympic Games? No Thank you). However, for kicks the other night, my husband and I downloaded the demo to give it a try...it's been a while since Nintendo put out a decent racing game--post Mario Kart.

I was actually blown away by this game. Let's talk graphics...it's pretty, really pretty. Smooth too. Even though the vehicles often transform, and the tracks are complicated, it still retains it's graphic quality without any traditional glitchy moments that you see in some of the F-zero games or even Mario Kart 3DS.

This game is surprisingly difficult as well, even for standard mode. I like a challenge and this game definitely delivers! There are several different types of modes including battle, challenges (the Ring challenges gave me some trouble!), and traditional tournament style. The courses are pretty neat and usually multiple routes per course. You also change from racecar to hovercraft to jet constantly throughout the game...which adds another level of difficulty.

One of my favorite features--the multiplayer mode using the gamepad. Separate screens is amazing since you never get distracted by a split screen, nor does the game pad lose a ton of the graphic value. Plus, the game pad enables you to play with 5 players, opposed to the traditional 4.

On the down side, you need to be a booster in this game. I was surprised on how much the races themselves rely on boosting. To get first place can be difficult--not like Mario Kart for the Wii. You really need to utilize your boost in order to gain momentum and get the gold.

One last critique...Danica Patrick as a playable character? That was a weird marketing ploy. I would've rather had Blaze the cat...

5.0 out of 5 stars Must buy launch title November 24, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is now my favorite for the Wii U. Beat New Super Mario Wii U & Arkham City already and was looking for another Wii U title, but not sure which one. Ended up picking up this one & really glad I did. Tight controls, well-designed tracks & beautiful graphics. I own a PS3 & Wii as well, and I have never seen any graphics like this on either of those. It has an easy mode too, which is great for playing with my girlfriend or family. Also, has a hard mode, which is great for masochists, who love the abuse. Lots of intricate moves if you are a kart nerd like me, but still plenty of fun if you just like to hit the gas and race. Also under 40 bucks, which makes it even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! November 19, 2012
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii U
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
At $40 bucks, you cant go wrong. I got it with the Deluxe Wii U set and it's fascinating. It feels quite different from the first game, but in no negative way. There is a lot to unlock, the online matches worked great (for a launch date try!) and you can choose whatever controller you want to use.

The stages are incredible and some of them change to accomodate the "Transformed" idea of the game...some of the courses change by lap! Great music and smooth graphics. It gets intense, but go crazy. BD JOE!

GET IT!

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game after reading several good reviews. I am glad that I did. As one of the few racing games on recent Nintendo consoles, there are some inevitable comparisons to Mario Kart.

The first thing you will notice about this game is that it is BUSY. Graphically there is a lot more going on than what you would expect from Mario Kart Wii. This can make for an exciting (if overwhelming at first). Graphics on the TV (at 1080p) are gorgeous. If you decide to play it on the Wii U gamepad, the graphics are not very good, but it is still nice to have the capability to play off TV.

It is worth noting that the gas and breaks are operated via the LR triggers, as with the Need for Speed series (differing from Mario Kart controls).
If you are used to Mario Kart, the response and feel of the vehicles is quite different, although this only takes a few minutes to get used to.

Going around and unlocking things is pretty fun. There are tons of things to unlock. Characters, mods, stages, etc. One of my favorite things about this game as opposed to Mario Kart is the ability to level up drivers. When you level up drivers you get different vehicle mods that change the performance and response of the vehicle in very noticeable ways.

The stage design is awesome, with most stages being modeled off of some Sega franchise. I am not super familiar with SEGA games, but the concept is really cool. Each stage has parts where you drive, fly, and boat around. These vehicle transitions are quite smooth for the most part.

The items in this game for the most part are pretty crappy (in my opinion). One nice thing about items in this game as opposed to Mario Kart is that they do not dominate the race.
