5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Sequel., February 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Sonic Drift 2 (Video Game)
The sequel to the Japan only Sonic Drift is more fun than Mario Kart (it beats all of the mario karts!) This is a racing game kind of like sonic R but EVERYONE is in cars. A little hard to get used to at first but is sure to delight, despite how old it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonic speed!, October 2, 2005

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sonic Drift 2 (Video Game)
This Game Gear game was the sequel to the Japan-only release Sonic Drift, and like most sequels, this one was bigger, better, and more challenging. It is similar to Sonic Racing, only now everyone has their own race car, and Nack the weasel has appeared as one of the racers. You have the option of choosing the racers, or letting the game choose for you.

Listed below is each character with his or her own unique vehicle, special ability, and how many rings are required.

Heroes:

Sonic--Power "Sneakar"--Speed--2 rings
Tails--Whirlwind 67--Jumping--2 rings
Knuckles--Jeep--Jumping--2 rings
Amy-Breeze--Kissing--2 rings

Villians:

Dr. Eggman--Egg Typhoon--Throwing traps--2 rings
Metal Sonic--Rocket Car--Speed--3 Rings
Nack-Hover Bike--Throwing coconuts--2 rings

This game also has 3 levels of difficulty (Purple-easy, White-medium, Blue-hard) and features courses from the Genesis Sonic 2, plus a few new courses as well.

To play the final GP, place first in all of the blue courses. If you play as one of the heroes, you will face Dr. Eggman. If you play as one of the villians, you will face Sonic. If you win the race, you will see the credits.

Overall, 5 stars. A must-play Game Gear game for racing fans and Sonic fans alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sonic in a car? Meh.., August 23, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sonic Drift 2 (Video Game)
The Game Gear isn't exactly my personal recommendation for a video game system, but it still has a decent library of games. It just doesn't have as much charming titles as its competitor, the Game Boy, offered. Sonic Drift 2, according to the average Sonic fans, is one of the rather questionable games that came out of the system. You play as Sonic and friends as they....race...through certain zones..in cars.

The game plays like Namco's arcade classic, Pole Position, but with Mario Kart-style elements, such as items. The items you get from the boxes either slow someone down, speed you up, or make you bounce.

The game features Quick Race mode, Multiplayer Vs, and Grand Prix (with 5 tracks per cup). The tracks may be based off of certain zones in the Genesis Sonic games, but it surely doesn't differ too much from one other. Sure the maps are different, and the theme is, too, but that's it. Mystic Cave Zone is an exception, as it contains a few tunnels. Those tunnels, however, are frustrating because you are pushed to the very edge of the screen.

Overall, it's Pole Position with a nice Sonic flavor, but also with a lack of variety.
