2.0 out of 5 stars Hate to buck the trend, but I find it very un-intuitive
You know, I've spent 20+ years in software, have a Masters degree in Computer Science, and I tell you, I get frustrated trying to figure this program out every time I use it ( which apparently is not frequently enough to remember all the tricks you need to know to get work done ). In user-interfaces, one typically design to either the novice / in-frequent user, or the...

Rather than repeat the praise that has been heaped on this product by other reviewers, I thought I would point out that Acid Pro 3.0 is an extraordinarily elastic piece of software; true, if you have no musical background, you can simply paste loops into your song and let Acid do the rest; but if you want to get into the microscopic details of music production, you can do that as well. Aside from global key and tempo changes, you can change the key of individual loops; you can change the pitch of individual notes within individual loops; add global effects or effects envelopes to just parts of tracks. Harmonize loops. Create multiple busses. There's even a way to simulate granular synthesis (read Sam's Teach Yourself Acid to learn how). Use the Chopper to create drum fills and stutters.

In short, the single most daunting thing about Acid is not the learning curve, but the absurd number of things you can do with it--where does one start?

P.S., As if Acid Pro 3.0 were not powerful enough, it comes with a basic version of Sound Forge, Sonic Foundry's sound file editor.

5.0 out of 5 stars The end-all program for laptop DJs, March 13, 2002
This review is from: ACID Pro 3.0 (CD-ROM)
What could be easier? If you want to make beat-driven music, Acid is the only way to go. Just click and drag. Simplest interface ever, as long as you have loops ready. Sure, you could use all of the royalty free samples they give you, but if you want something really original, you can get a sound recorder, sample MP3 songs on your computer, make those into loops, and viola! Instant muzak! Ever wish you had the talent to be like the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, or any other nameless electronica acts? Well, it turns out, you don't have to know anything at all! Acid allows for endless experimentation. Mix different sounds together, you eventually come up with something good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome!, January 27, 2003

A couple of years ago, I was interested in recording music at home, and I didn't know where to start. I ended up getting a SoundBlaster Audigy card and Acid 2.0. Acid is so easy to use! At first, I was using the loops that were provided and playing guitar and singing, then I got a synthesizer keyboard to simulate other instruments. Now I have Acid 3.0 and I record with a full band and have had other local bands pay me to record and engineer their demo CD's.

It's incredible how easy it is. You can record anything and then manipulate it, add virtually any effect, cut and paste sections, create loops, the list goes on and on.

Oh, and by the way, you can record unlimited tracks. Let's say you want a cymbal crash here, a whistle there, you want to overdub 3 guitars, you want a track with shakers or finger snaps, maybe bongos?....no problem.

Bottom line: If you want to create professional sounding music at home, this program flat out rocks.

A great tool for song creation or just hocking beats together for a quick bash or some lyrics. The library of available loops expands on a monthly basis and the features in this version are truly top-line: real-time effects (and plenty of them), ease of use, etc. A really simple, killer program fro neophytes and pros alike, and especially handy for cats who make their own samples.

5.0 out of 5 stars great music maker, August 23, 2001

in my opinion acid pro 3.0 is the best music generator out there. at first i was a little unsure about getting it because of the price. but when i got it going i just couldn't stop using it. it gives you so many choices of music samples so no matter what kind of music you like you'll never get bored with it. i would recommend it for people want to make music for a living, but not for anyone who just wants to have it, because it's so expensive. although if you have the money, and making music is your hobby it worth buying. no questions about it. i would recommend it for anyone, but if you don't want to spend this much money. you should at least give other programs like this one a try because everybody likes music and you make the music you like. not only that but it's so simple. you have to right down musical note you just put musical pieces together then play them back. one last thing it is very simple to use so even if your not an expert you still can make great music.

I bought Acid 2.0 a few months ago and love it! I just recently bought Acid Pro 3.0 and think it's way beyond awesome!! It's a lot more flexible with a a lot more features. I to was a little hesitant at first cause of the price but if you're into music as much as I am...GET IT! I play guitar and with Acid Pro 3.0 I can make awesome background music. Another thing, it's easy to use. As a music lover I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music shouldn't be this easy, December 24, 2001

I am sure we all have a little of Antonio Salieri inside us. We can appreciate fine music but have trouble making our own. Acid Pro changes all that. Buy a few royalty-free loop CDs and create instant masterpieces. Even record and beat-map samples you can record yourself. I had stumbled around for years with music sequencing programs until my friend recommended Sonic Foundry products. The difference is amazing. What Photoshop is to graphic design, Acid is to music. In fact, you even sort of "paint" music. It couldn't be easier. You have to try it to believe it. Go download Acid Xpress for free, then come back and buy the real thing.

If you already have a synthesizer or musical instruments, this is the software to complement it. Lay in an infinite number of tracks per song. Drag and drop vocals. Don't mess around with DATs. PCs are cheap and more powerful given the right tools.

Acid is fun as well as addictive. It also comes with limited versions of Sound Forge (sound editing) and Vegas Audio for larger projects plus some samples to get you started. Too bad more people don't know about this product; it's probably the best investment you can make in buying a piece of software.
