Series: Sonic the Hedgehog: Legacy (Book 1)
Paperback: 496 pages
Publisher: Archie Comics; First Edition edition (November 15, 2011)
The purpose of this review is to give some more information about this book. Essentially, this book is a collection of twenty comic book issues from the Archie comics Sonic the Hedgehog series. It features issues #0-3 of the Sonic the Hedgehog original mini series and issues #1-16 of the main, ongoing series. Each issue is represented fairly well, offering both the main story line as well as any side stories that have been included in each issue. However, the entire book is in black and white - meaning no colored pages whatsoever. Even though the artwork of these comics is amazing, I am a bit let down that there are no colored pages.
Overall, this book is a large collection of the earliest Archie Comic issues at a very appealing price. Only drawback is that these are in pure black and white.

This collection reaches back nearly two decades in time to bring back the original Sonic comic book adventures, all presented here in black and white. Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game phenomenon that got turned into a successful comic and animated series.
The series is chock full of humor, predominantly slapstick and exactly the kind that kids love. Popular artist Patrick Spaziante introduces the entire book and reveals some of insights into what went into making the comics way back then. Throughout the book's 500-plus pages, readers get 20 issues' worth of Sonic stories, all funny and all appropriate for all ages. Fans will appreciate the presence of fan-favorite Scott Shaw!'s pencils here (if you are old enough to remember Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew, you'll love seeing his art again here).
Even though the stories are now some 20 years old, they hold up well and present important lessons (but never in a heavy-handed way) that will resonate with kids today.

I'm sure the majority of you who are reading this review are at the very least familiar with Sonic The Hedgehog or at the very least have heard of him. In the 90's, Sega's answer to Mario was everywhere. T-shirts, bed spreads, canned pasta, cartoons, you name it, his smug blue mug was on it. Then in 1992, the little mammal that could got his own comic that was published by Archie, the folks behind the forever 50's teen of the same name and the much more tame comic outing everyone's favorite pizza munching reptiles. The comic takes place on the planet Mobius, which is slowly being turned into a vast wasteland of lifeless technology by Dr. Robotnik (I still to this day refuse to call him Eggman) and his roboticizer, which alters the makeup of a living creature and morphs it into something entirely robotic. The only prevailing force against this husky, mustachioed fiend are the Freedom Fighters of Knothole Village, lead by the courageous Princess Sally and her allies, a cowardly coyote (Antoine), a bandolier and backwards baseball cap sporting walrus (Rotor), a halfway roboticized rabbit (Bunny Rabbot), and the spunky hedgehog and the spry little fox that we've all come to know and love.
The most well known issues of the comic are 47-50, collectively known as the "End Game" saga, taking a page from the popular Sonic The Hedgehog (also known as SATAM) by making it a tad more grim and dark. Essentially what happens is Sally and Sonic infiltrate Robotnik's lair and while trying to escape, Sally dies and Sonic is effectively blamed for it. The entire arc revolves around Sonic as a fugitive, desperately trying to redeem himself through proving his innocence.Read more ›
