5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Sonic Cartoon Ever Made
Finally, the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon that aired on ABC in 1993 (known as "Sonic SatAM" to the fans) comes to DVD. Many of those who managed to catch the show on TV 7-8 years ago fell in love with it then, and have been fans ever since. It had just the right blend of comedy, drama, and action, with no one of those standing out too much above the others...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sonic is great; but what the heck is INSPECTOR GADGET doing?
This is truely a great cartoon. I have quietly been waiting to get my hands on the SatAM Sonic cartoon ever since it got cancelled by ABC (that was when I was 12, I am 19 now!). Without getting into a touchy-feely life story, I woke up one Saturday morning when sixth grade just finished, wanting so much to just watch Sonic at 6:30 AM (yes, that was when it aired here). To...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Sonic Cartoon Ever Made, December 11, 2001
By
This review is from: Sonic the Hedgehog - Super Sonic (DVD)
Finally, the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon that aired on ABC in 1993 (known as "Sonic SatAM" to the fans) comes to DVD. Many of those who managed to catch the show on TV 7-8 years ago fell in love with it then, and have been fans ever since. It had just the right blend of comedy, drama, and action, with no one of those standing out too much above the others. This is a much anticipated release in the Sonic fan community, and this DVD contains the following episodes: Sonic Racer, Sonic Boom, Super Sonic and Sonic & Sally.

This cartoon was made back before the SegaSonic storyline really got developed, and you won't be seeing familiar faces like Knuckles, Amy Rose, or the more recent characters from Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow and Rouge, simply because, well, none of them existed back then (Sonic 3, which was Knuckles' first game, didn't even come out until the year after it started airing). But that doesn't detract from the show at all as there are plenty of well developed characters added here that weren't from the games. This cartoon set-up the first real storyline behind the whole Sonic universe (in the U.S. anyway), and in my opinion, was one of the best American made cartoons ever. The Archie series of Sonic the Hedgehog comics is now loosely based on this cartoon, but really fails to capture the quality of writing used to produce this show.

Dispite the age of this show, if you're a Sonic fan, you definately shouldn't pass this one up. Definately the best Sonic cartoon ever produced, in my opinion. I'd give it more than 5 stars, but well.. that's the most you can give here on Amazon.com :)

5.0 out of 5 stars SatAM Sonic Returns!, December 21, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sonic the Hedgehog - Super Sonic (DVD)
This is unquestionably the best of the Sonic series. For those of you who saw this cartoon in 1993, and have seen the other two series (the one on Toon Disney (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog) and the one that used to be on Sci-Fi (Sonic Underground)), then you may agree with me or not. I have been waiting for this cartoon to be aired back on TV uncut, but something I never expected and even better came out. This DVD features 4 episodes that were aired from the first season. If sales go well, then more will be released on DVD. This is a MUST GET for any Sonic fan out there. The comic was based on this...or maybe it was the other way around? Anyway, I give this DVD the highest ranking possible on Amazon...too bad it's only 5 stars, I could've rated it 50 or 100.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long overdue, but worth the wait!!, April 4, 2002
This review is from: Sonic the Hedgehog - Super Sonic (DVD)
"The Fastest Thing Alive", oh that themesong brings back memories of Saturday Mornings. I used to wake up before 8am every Saturday just to watch this incredible show.

For fans of the ARCHIE Comic Book Series of the same name, they can finally see where their inspiration came from. Clever and original characters, great storyline, great music, and great humor all put together make this the most popular of the three American Sonic The Hedgehog animated series (others being Adventures Of SONIC The Hedgehog and SONIC Underground).

You get four of the early episodes AND as a special bonus you get an extra episode when you answer all the questions correctly on the quiz that's featured on the DVD.

Hopefully sales for this will be very positive and convince DiC to release the entire series, and (big prayers for) make new episodes! ;)

Whether you are a fan of SONIC and/or just a fan of great animated series, pick this up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps the Greatest Video ever made., May 15, 2004

I stand by my statement. This is quite easily one of the greatest videos ever made. I have owned this tape since it first came out, and I have been in habbit of watching it constantly ever since.

The Sonic cartoon played on ABC (known to fans as SATAM) is little known nowadays, but it shaped the way for the sonic comic book and the entire sonic the hedgehog continuty.

As of lately, Sonic is becoming a terrible anime rip off, but at one time, Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the most intelligent and adventourus cartoon/video game of all time. This series is highly recommended by everyone who ever played Sonic games on thier sega genesis and have a fond memory of that beloved character.

In this series, sonic is a memember of a Freedom Fighter group rebelling against evil Tyrannt Dr. Robotnick, who inslaved the population and turned them into Robots. The Freedom Fighters are lead by Princess Sally, and the main group consists of Bunny Rabbot, Tails, Antoine, Rotor, and Sonic.

2 episodes are on this tape, in the first one, Sonic's super speed power is stolen by an evil wizard. In the 2nd episode, "Sonic and Sally", Sally is captured during a mission to Robotropolis and a robot counterpart fools everyone of the freedom fighters. This episode is a sure fire classic, one of the best in the series.

These episodes were produced before Knuckles was introduced into Sonic world, and stand out as the peak of the Sonic career.

Now days sonic's video games are lame, the new cast of supporting characters is terrible (Cream, Shadow, Big, and Rouge?), Sonic comics are generic and bland anime rip offs, and the tv cartoons being produced are nothing more than terrible, terrible jokes.

If you love sonic, pick up this great cartoon. Dont wait, do it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars It should of lasted longer than it did, September 10, 2002
This review is from: Sonic the Hedgehog - Super Sonic (DVD)
Back in the Early 90's videogames were still viewed as kids toys. TV reflected that image as well. For example Captain N and the Game MAster was an interesting idea horribly pulled off. An insult to every character they portrayed in that (MEgaman alone is an insult). What made that... was the animation and stories. MArio, you would think that would be cool right. TO it's credit it has some credability, but still a little to goofy at times. ABC changed that when they introduced to the American PUblic, Sonic the Hedgehog, an Anime?

WHat MAde SOnic unique compared to other cartoons in the time perid was not the stories, not the characters, but the outstanding Animation for a Saturday Morning cartoon (a basic standard today). NBC dropped out of that war shortly there after and CBS slowed down to a crawl. Fox hanged in tehre by ine better (right) LIve action series. NOw back to Sonic. THe plot line for Sonic (this series) is that Robotnick is transforming Mobius into a mechanical wasteland. Everyone has seen teh effects of what RObotnick does. The main cast is SOnic, armed with speed and attitude is second in command, Sally Princess of Mobius and leader of the Freedom Fighters, Bunny who is stronger than Normal due to th fact that she is partially ROboticized, Antoine, captain of the Guards and a stuck up pig, Rotor, the Walrus and mechanical genius at times, and Tails the youngest of the crew (portrayed to be maybe 8 years old). Theses characters are portrayed to be betweem 16-20 years old so they are in essence teenagers.

I personally love this cartoon, it was one of the best in the wars. When it went of the air I maybe watched another 2 years (before WB) before stopping al together. The PRoblem sonic had was that it was trying to appeal to 2 different Audiences. How the stories tend to be fairly deep and seriouse in which teens would like, but the voice acting was silly and comical thus apealing to kids. Unforunatly teh voices turned away average teens, and the stories turned away little kids.

All in all this is a very good series that shoudl be looked into. It sure... beats out the... American made series (which unfortunatly outlasted the good one) and if you the readers demand it could make a possible comeback on hmm, cartoon network. Just a recomendation.

Back in 1993, i read the Comic books by Archie Comics and was blown away and became one of my favorite comic Books of all time.
then when i saw the Saturday Morning Animated Series, i was also blown away. It suddenly became a Cult animated show filled with
lots of action yet it had brains too, it features such unfogettable characters like The evil Doctor Robotnik, The Cute and adorable Tails, The brave Sonic and the Beautiful Princess Sally Acorn. I am gonna own the DVD when it comes out and will add it to my Collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of the SatAM version videos., August 1, 1998
By A Customer
Sonic and Sally are raiding Robotropolis in "Super Sonic" when they discover the Forbidden Zone. Sonic goes into it, but Robotnik goes in first and steals the computer belonging to Lazer (a Yoda-like wizard) so he can capture and hypnotise Sally and Bunnie.

Then in "Sonic & Sally", Sally is captured and duplicated. Nearly everyone thinks it's Sally, but Tails is suspisous. END

5.0 out of 5 stars SONIKKU ROCKS!, February 23, 2002
This review is from: Sonic the Hedgehog - Super Sonic (DVD)
I can't believe they are FINALLY putting Sonic on DVD. I have seen the episodes on the DVD and I've enjoyed everyone of them even though I'm a teen. I think other teens could really get into this series if they gave it a chance. Many teens (such as my own friendds who constantly call me childish because I happen to like Sonic) think that Sonic is for younger kids and not for them but hey its one of the best shows out there. Any how I HIGHLY recomend this DVD 'cause believe me its worth all the money you pay for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars SatAm was great, January 30, 2002

About 7 years ago, ABC canned this cartoon because the ratings were not up to par with Fox's Power Rangers(shutter), even though this was the best looking and sounding Sonic cartoon made. But now, SatAm is back, in DVD form! Although they are the same episodes that were on tape in 1995, they are being re-released due to a wildly popular internet fanbase. The 4 episodes are Super Sonic, Sonic and Sally, Sonic Racer, and Sonic Boom. There is also a hidden episode if you can pass the quiz, which is only on the DVD. Don't worry, though, it's easy. I passed it without even watching the episodes(I also researched the show for about 5 months, so it might be harder for some). But still, if you were a fan of this show, this purchase should be a no-brainer. I suggest pre-ordering(I sure as hell did!), because they might be hard to find when they are(finally) released.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sonic in all his glory!, March 7, 2002
By
This review is from: Sonic the Hedgehog - Super Sonic (DVD)
After 8 and a half years, DiC's greatest achievement finally resurfaces. "Sonic the Hedgehog" is everything a 22 minute cartoon should be. It's plots are dramatic without becoming over the top. It's characters are full of heart and soul, and it is easy to identify with any and all of them. Sonic's attitude comes across perfectly, kudos to Jaleel White for breathing life into the animation. Paired with perhaps the greatest female lead I've seen in American animation, Princess Sally Alicia Acorn, these two characters bring more chemistry to a cartoon than should be allowed, bouncing off each other perfectly.

To this day, this series is what the comic book of the same name should be, yet fails to achieve, despite involving the same characters (not to mention countless new faces). Sadly, the comic book is emotionally comatose, and Sally is quickly being reduced to a damsel in distress as time marches on.

For such a low price, you can't afford not to pick up this DVD. Perhaps it's too late to see more of this show, but we must do all we can to get this series out in DVD format in its entirety. Who can forget the massive story-arc of the second season, which encompassed all but two or three episodes? The wonderful buildup of suspense, only for ABC to change the series timeslot on the morning of its last first-run episode (Thank goodness I checked the program guide and noticed it had moved the night before)!!!

This, folks, is what Sonic should be, you need look no further. This series sports not just Sonic with his quick wits and moves, but provides a range of emotion for the whole cast. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but most of all you'll have a great time. 5 episodes for next to nothing! Buy a copy for your friends, this one is a must have!
