5.0 out of 5 stars You have to love real hip-hop
This album is great. There are all types of stylez for the ear piece. If you do not like real, pure, unadulterated, underground hip-hop, this album is NOT for you. So, if you want mainstream rap or hip-hop, leave this alone. For the reviewers: why you wanna hate on these brothas?!

3.0 out of 5 stars THE DO'S AND DO NOT'S OF THIS CD
OK, I'm gonna tell you straight up! There are 15 tracks on this CD and there are 4 I don't listen to but 2 of them are guaranteed that you won't like.

The track named "Wanderer" by Play Dough is not all that bad, but his flowing gives it a couple points. The beat is BORING! Compare that beat to the other nice beats on the LP and you'll see what I'm...

4.0 out of 5 stars imperial material, November 26, 2002
This review is from: Sonic Imperial - Sounds of The Prophets (Audio CD)
what's up yall...this his a hot cd with various artists on it. it's a good "sample" cd, cuz you can experience many diff types of rap styles/ beats what ever.

ya got plenty of tracks, and few hidden mp3 tracks for yo computer as well.

pigeon john (one of the best rappers in my oppinon) in on this track with calling of the dung beatle featuring grits. ya got some dj skill spinz as well blessing the cd with his funkey style and freshness. also playdough, dex the vortex, the ambasator, and many others.

a tight intro and a tight finish.

this is a good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cross-section of underground artists to check out., February 9, 2000

This compilation comes off rather strong. With enough artists to fill a school bus reppin on this comp it's hard not to find something you're going to like. Phonetic Composition comes off strong as do Sons of Intellect. I was blown away by Dj Skillspinz needle-shredding set in the middle of the CD, you don't hear much of that lately!(unfortunately) Mark of the East was represented well and brought that raw NY sound to bless my speakers.

I was a little dissappointed that such an old song as "Dung Beetles" by Knowdaverbs found its way on the comp. I'd like to hear something new from this artist with a better producer. I also wasn't to impressed with Tre-9's joint on there, and a great MC - Vex Da Vortex - had a lo-fi sounding set that suffered from poor production, and that took away from the good lyricism of Vex.

Compare that beat to the other nice beats on the LP and you'll see what I'm talking about!

The track named "Call of the Dung Beetle" is 1 of the 2 tracks I guarantee you won't like. Some dude named Pigeon John is on it. He messes it up BIG TIME! What kind of name is Pigeon John? He messes up the chorus (THEY COULD HAVE DONE A BETTER JOB THAN THAT! ) And he tries to rap! Talkin' bout vaseline in his hair and takin' his girl out to lobster or something. What kind of mess is that! Knowdaverbs and Grits do a great job on this song. But why do a song with some dude named Pigeon John? I GUARANTEE YOU YOUR GRANDMOTHER CAN RAP BETTER THAN PIGEON JOHN!

The track named "Sonic Imperial" you may like. It's got this group called Phonetic Composition on it. The beat is boring but the flowing isn't bad because Play Dough is on it. He can rap he just needs some nice beats.

The track named "Terror of the 7th Seal" is WHACK! You won't like this song. Some sorry group named Apocalypse is on it. The flowing is very, very, very, whack! They sound like they've got a mouth full of cheeseburgers! They're just talking about the end times and what's going to happen if you're left behind when Jesus comes back. They tell you in a very sorry way! THIS SONG IS A DISGRACE TO CHRISTIAN RAP! Listen to this if you want to but I guarantee you, you won't last long at all! I HATE THIS SONG!

All the other songs on this CD are the reason why I give this cd 3 stars. Overall this is a very nice CD with some flaws in it.
