5.0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME RULES!
This is an awesome game! So what if the sound is a little muffled and the graphics aren't so great. What do you expect from a 32-bit power house which so many great games premiered on? (like tomb raider and NiGHTS into dreams...) Plus who cares if sonic CD isnt on there? GO BUY A SEGA CD if you want it! So get this game it rocks.

Sonic Jam is a good game to recap events some might have missed out on in the past. In it are the games that were once on the former Sega Genesis console, Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles. Also included is a 3D museum entitled Sonic World in which you view the history of, you guessed it, Sonic, and also his friends and enemies. The Sonic games are well emulated, and have added options to change difficulty, play bonus stages, etc. This, I believe, was a very good idea, as novice players might have found the originals too challenging or there might have been those who only wanted to play a specific part of the game. The whole of the game is preserved including cheat codes (which are hinted throughout Sonic World) and environments, but now in Sonic 1 you can use the spindash. The only downside to Sonic Jam is the fact that you can't play any other Sonic games (such as Sonic Spinball or Sonic CD), the sound emulation is a little muffled, and the fact that Sonic World is a little too small and claustrophobic, it doesn't look it's best. All in all, Sonic Jam is a collector's item, highly recommended, but only if you can get your hands on it!

Pros: + Replay the original Sonic games or play what you missed + Added options/features to suit every gamers needs + Top notch emulation (- sound) + Interactive "Sonic Museum" + It's a SONIC game! :)

Cons: - Sonic World is too small and graphics are not high quality - Sound emulation for the Sonic games are muffled - Really no added replay value: once your done, your done - Missing key Sonic games (ie. Sonic CD)

4.0 out of 5 stars Sonic Gets Compiled with A Library, February 27, 2002
By
This review is from: Sonic Jam (Video Game)
Sonic Jam combines a multimedia library with four legendary games of the Genesis era. When I first seen this game I knew I had to have it as a Sonic game collector. With Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Sonic and Knuckles there's six gaming possibilities. Then there's the "Sonic World", which is the first Sonic Adventure type 3-D gaming experience that includes mini games of it's own! Within the Sonic World there is a library of multimedia containing commercials of Sonic from around the globe to the history of Sonic the Hedgehog. There's even a way to listen to music and sound from the previous Sonic games. This game can give you an insight into the Sonic realm of which you may have never imagined! All said, this is the best CD you can buy that has the word "Sega" and "Sonic" on it, with one minor flaw. The flaw is in the Sonic & Knuckles game on the special stage of static balls where you have to work your way up by rolling around electro-static balls and jumping up to the next ball before the line that ends the special stage comes to claim you. In route to the top you collect shields and rings. In the actual game on Sega Genesis there are rings littered though out the stage, but in the Sonic Jam version they're all missing! I called Sega about it and they claimed there wasn't anything wrong. I think the guy I talked to never even played Sonic & Knuckles!
I gave it a four out of five because of its flaw and my CD stoped working for a while when it was scratchless! I tried to make a copy of the game and play it(of course that didn't work) but after I made the copy I tried the original and it worked! The heat from the laser pounding the CD must have cleaned out the discrepancy in the CD. Either way this is still the best you can buy, by far,on the Sega Saturn for Sonic games.

-Curt

4.0 out of 5 stars Sonic Jam: For Collector's Only, September 30, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sonic Jam (Video Game)
Sonic Jam is a collection of Sonic's best games from the Sega Genesis era. They are Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic & Knuckles (the latter of which can be be "locked on" to any of the other games to create a totally new experience.) Some would say there hasn't been a solid game dedicated to the blue blur since these early gems, but that's clearly up to the gamer to decide. Either way you look at it though, these games are the essential Sonic games, and clearly the heart and soul of the series. Anyone who is a fan, should have played all of these by now, so why get Sonic Jam?

As I stated in the title, Sonic Jam is for collector's only. These 4 Sonic games with various difficulties are all you get. There are plenty of other Sonic collections that have been released on more recent consoles that are far cheaper than this one. Those collections also include more games than this title so you clearly get more bang for your buck. The one big thing that Sonic Jam has that the other's don't is Sonic World.

Sonic World seemed like Sega's apology to the 1997 Sonic fans that waited patiently and anxiously for Sonic X-Treme, yet never got it. This was truly Sonic's first step into the 3-D gaming realm (Sonic 3D Blast does not count!) and it shows! However for it's time, it was amazing to see, and fairly simple to control. In fact, Sonic World ended up being the prototype for Sonic Adventure nearly two years later. It's amazing to see how it all started, but is it worth the price? That's for you to decide. Sonic World is a small little boxed in canyon reminiscent of Green Hill Zone from the early days of yore. It contains buildings for unique special features that people can see on you tube for free, but it's still an overall fun treat to go back in time and watch some rare Japanese Sonic commercials. Sonic World also has a few mini challenges that consist of finding certain things before time runs out (ex. find 50 rings in under 2 minutes) The little challenges can all be beaten in less than an hour once your eyes adjust to everything on the screen, but you can always replay them again, and try to beat your previous time/score.

So there you have it. I would not recommend Sonic Jam for the casual gamer, but rather the hardcore Sonic nut that has yet to experience his first true 3D outing and must OWN everything. Sonic World is neat to see, but it's short lived and is probably not worth the price that people are asking for. If you can find it for a fairly good price then by all means go for it and own a lost piece of gaming history!

This is one cool game!
PROS:You get to play every Sonic classic from the genesis, There are difficulty levels, Loads of replay, It's got a massive collection of Sonic history.
CONS:The Sonic world graphics are low quality, This came out at the same time as Mario 64 meaning it didn't sell well, It's for the Saturn which is a big ugly unpopular thing.
In this game, the 4 most classic Sonic titles ever have been jammed onto one disc. COOl. Combine this with tons of Sonics history in Sonic World. I will definitaley get Sonic Jam 2, but I can't remember which console it's coming out for! 95%

5.0 out of 5 stars Hours of Blast Processing in several different ways, March 25, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sonic Jam (Video Game)
The Sonic games for the Sega Genesis are platforming masterpieces that should never be forgotten....literally. Sega always re-releases the original Sonics in numerous video game collections, such as Sonic Mega Collection, Sonic Classic Collection, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, you know, to name a few. But this is the first re-release with all four of the original Genesis titles together.

In this collection, you get to play Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles (complete with Knuckles in Sonic 2 and 3). All of those games feature the fast-paced high-speed action that Sonic was known for. While they are re-released classics, there are now new difficulty modes for all of the games: Easy, Normal, and Original (Of course, you know what Original means). In Easy mode, there are actually some stages ENTIRELY REMOVED so the game(s) can be completed easier. The Spin Dash is also added in Sonic 1 when you play either Easy or Normal mode.

Not having to worry about the lock-on technology, the Knuckles versions of Sonic 2 and 3 are also playable. In Knuckles in Sonic 2, you just play as Knuckles in Sonic 2. That makes the game more fun in a way, but beware: He doesn't jump as high as Sonic does. Only almost. On the other hand, Knuckles in Sonic 3 combines Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles, making it one huge Sonic game with twice the number of zones Sonic 3 originally had. Plus, Knuckles is a selectable character, as you can tell already. There's also Blue Sphere, but that's a full game version of the special stages in Sonic 3 (and Knuckles).

Also in this collection is a game mode where you can play in a 3D world, collecting rings, reaching markers, or finding Tails as missions. While the missions are exciting, you can also go to a museum and view Sonic's history, artwork, advertisements, and music. You can also watch the cutscenes from the best Sonic game of all time: Sonic CD (Sonic 2's a close second). One thing I also find interesting is the advertisement for Sonic Ride, a virtual roller coaster ride for arcades that never saw the light of day.

Overall, this collection is very big, and if you're a Sonic fan in any way, this is a must-have....unless you don't own a Saturn.

There are two things that make this worth it.

1. Playing with the first 3d created Sonic.
2. Playing Sonic the hedgehog with SPIN DASH enabled!!!!!!!!

These two things ALONE make the game worthwhile.
I'm glad I bought one before amazon ran out.
