5.0 out of 5 stars Quick Comparision, Wii U Vs. 3DS November 15, 2013
By StevyJ
Platform for Display:Wii U
I thought it was going to be a great game when I saw the previews for it and then it got a lot of bad reviews. So I just decided to wait on the wii u version and get the 3ds one. The movements on the 3ds version were a lot smoother than previous sonic games which were often very stiff IMO. That along with his new moves, running up walls and the return of the spin dash made the gameplay seamless and complete. Many of the levels on the 3ds were like mazes giving you a lot of options for exploration which was great unless your searching for red star rings. The 3D levels were the best I've played on a sonic game ever something you just have to experience yourself. The 2D levels were good with sonic but seemed to be designed for super sonic. It has an online multiplayer race which can be very competitive and fun. Every level in multiplayer can be mastered making the levels fast paced and fluid. The overall game was actually very fast paced at times not much slower than previous sonic games IMO.

So some people suggest that the 3ds version is the better version. I found them both to be unique. The wii u version was definitely slower paced and more deliberate overall but just as rewarding. The wii u version seems more like a game you would play after a long day at school or work just to relax. Although there were several paths you can take for each stage like in previous games they were not mazes like on the 3ds. I often used the spin dash on the 3ds where as on the wii u it's something that was more optional or for intermediate players. The graphics were good and often had me going "Ooooh shiny". I found the cutscenes to be boring on the wii u than on the 3ds, often just skipped.

Overall I'm very satisfied with both versions and would say that this is the best sonic game since the genesis era. They finally got it right. One thing I can say is if you don't care for the wii u version don't count out the 3ds one.

Before I say anything else, let's get one thing clear right off the bat: do NOT rely on the majority of mainstream gaming "journalists" (pffft) or their pretentious, snarky (poor excuse for) reviews when trying to form an opinion on this game. After playing the game for a couple hours, it became clear to me that most media site reviewers didn't spend more than an hour, maybe two, before lazily writing the game off, as they so often are wont to do with Sonic games for the past half-decade. This is painfully evident when you compare the cringe-inducing lack of comprehension or skill in their video reviews with gamers with actual ability and aptitude who have posted their own gameplay videos online. This is a new Modern Sonic, totally different from most 3-D Sonic game thus far, and it requires a lot more than the squirrel-tier ADHD that most online media outlets evidently have in order to get down the basics of the game. When you devote the time and energy to become acquainted with the new gameplay mechanics and level design, however, you'll find that Sonic Lost World is a modern Sonic gem. Sure, it has its flaws, but overall, it is approximately as good as the stellar Sonic Colors was for the Wii, at least in my opinion anyway. For the sake of actually giving the game a fair chance and being informative, this is going to be a long review, written by a lifelong Sonic fan for all the Sonic fans out there. Either buckle up or jump ship now, you've been warned.

The game begins with Sonic and Tails chasing Dr. Eggman (*sigh* I miss Robotnik) in the clouds, where they discover "Lost Hex," a floating world that looks like Little Planet from

3.0 out of 5 stars Blue Blurred October 30, 2013
Platform for Display:Wii U
By all accounts, I'm what could be considered a "Sonic fanboy." Even some of the character's worst outings have managed to keep my interest, and I still faithfully buy the new entries in the venerable series within a week of their launch, if not the very same day. Sure, it's made for some terrible purchases, such as the abysmal "Secret Rings", "The Black Knight" and (dare I speak its name) "Shadow The Hedgehog." But it's also resulted in some of my favorite games of the last few generations, such as "Colors", "Generations", and "Adventure" 1&2, not to mention the plethora of wonderful handheld games. But it often feels that I'm in a minority, given that a lot of mainstream critics constantly ask for Sega to reinvent its mascot, which results each new game attempting some dramatic shift that either works or falls flat.

As a result, the Sonic franchise comes across as having a bit of an identity crisis, trying very hard to remain relevant in the ever-shifting landscape of electronic entertainment. And while most games fall on one side of the spectrum or the other, the blue blur's latest escapade lays bare every single problem his series has, while at the same time offering glimpses of a solution that are woefully underutilized. "Sonic Lost World" is a game that tries on several pairs of shoes, but only about half of them fit. But when they fit, they do so perfectly.

So, in the obligatory narrative, we see Sonic and Tails, along with welcome additions Knuckles and Amy, discovering a lost world consisting of floating landmasses. They're chasing Robotn-... erm, Eggman, as he has once again captured fuzzy little animals and shoved them in capsules. This time, however, the arch-villain has a race of mysterious demons on his side known only as "The Deadly Six.
