It always surprises me how classic video games can be even better than what has to be hot today, with all the overexposed graphics and gala. Nevertheless, during Sega's payoff era for the Genesis, it really did break so much ground, it was the highlight of their video game systems. Unfortunately, Sega was never able to capatalize after the Genesis. That is unfortunate that Sega now only makes video games for other systems. As for their mascot, Sonic The Hedgehog, he still lives on with so many systems now highlighting the blue speed demon is just amazing. Since 1991, Sonic The Hedgehog has become as popular as other legendary mascots including Mario, and Zelda. But the games Sonic was featured in, even brought more challenge than anywhere else.

The Sonic Mega Collection Plus, is a collection of over a dozen video games, unlockable and classic from the Genesis era, and the Sega handheld Game Gear era. The collection includes so many great classics including Sonic 1, 2, and 3, as well as other successors like Sonic 3D Blast. The collection goes further by including Sonic's Game Gear games like Sonic Chaos, Sonic Blast, and the mad dash racing game, Sonic Drift 2. The games have been remastered beautifully, but can be very difficult during some gamers, especially for anybody who hasn't expereinced the Genesis era. The game collection does fair very well, especially after the triumph, of the original Sonic Mega Collection for the Nintendo's Gamecube.

Sonic Mega Collection Plus is a great video game compilation for the Playstation 2. If you have the Gamecube, and bought the Sonic Mega Collection for the Gamecube, than it really isn't worth the money, unless you consider the Game Gear games here. The compilation here is great, and really good for Playstation 2 buyers. I honestly suggest this one.

Like I said, some are great (Sonic 1-3 & Knuckles) some are good (Mean bean machine, Sonic Spinball) but some are rubbish (Sonic 3D Blast & Sonic Labyrinth)

This collection includes:

Sonic The Hedgehog (8/10)

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (9/10)

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (9/10)

Sonic & Knuckles (10/10)

Sonic 3D Blast (3/10)

Sonic Spinball (6/10)

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (5/10)

Game Gear:

Sonic The Hedgehog (3/10)

Sonic Chaos (4/10)

Sonic Drift (7/10)

Sonic Labyrith (0/10)

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (3/10)

Sonic Blast (5/10)

Here are descriptions for the games:

Sonic1: Average with good graphics.

Sonic2: Average with great graphics.

Sonic3: Average with awesome graphics.

Sonic & Knux: Perfect with excellent graphics.

Sonic 3D Blast: Dull, slow and boring game but the graphics are nice.

Sonic Spinball: Not so bad and the graphics are great.

Mean Bean Machine: Not so bad actually.

Game Gear:

Sonic1: Crappy crap Sonic crap with crap graphics that are crap. In a word: CRAP!!!

Sonic Chaos: Stupid, silly Sonic 3 styled game with no Knuckles, ugly graphics, stupid gameplay and a worthless replay value.

Sonic Drift: Good racing game value with average gameplay, good music but awful graphics.

Sonic Labyrinth: Sloooooooooooow and boring game that is fun for the first 1 second, then it goes doooooooooooown.

Mean Bean Machine: Awful graphics, really terrible sound and a worthless style.

Ah, yes. Where would any videogame star be without his beginning games? That's exactly what your getting here; the beginning adventures of the famous character known as Sonic the Hedgehog. Other characters like Robotnik (a.k.a. Eggman), Miles "Tails" Prower, and Knuckles the Echidna also have their introductions in this series. Before I say anything else, I want to let you know: the characters I have already mentioned are the only actual Sonic characters that are playable and/or make an appearance (I'm not including some of Eggman's robots like Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts; who never appeared again after Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine). If you're looking for the playability or participation of characters like Amy Rose, Bean the Dynamite, Tails Doll, or anyone else of the like YOU HAVE THE WRONG GAME. Purchase Sonic Gems Collection if you're looking for stuff like Sonic CD (where Amy plays a role). Even if you're here for the correct reasons, it's advisable that you check Sonic Gems Collection out anyway; it practically goes hand in hand with this game. With that out of the way, I would like to mention I'm not comparing this game with any of the newer games. Obviously, the graphics aren't going to be quite up to par on Genesis and Game Gear (which is where these games originally came and were preserved from) as they are on the Wii/Playstation 3/Xbox 360/Whatever newest system you own. Also, if you're an old hat on Sonic's newer games (Sonic Advances 1-3, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Adventures 1 and 2, etc.) then much of the music (no matter how good it is) may be heard of and/or may sound out of date or even glitched to you (the remixes of the music from the newer games hold more differentiation from the older games than the Mario series, however).Read more ›
