1.0 out of 5 stars Spare yourself the bites, June 15, 2010

This item definitely does not work! I bought five of these devices hoping that I could give some away and make my friends happy, if they worked right. They have absolutely no mosquito repelling power. Also, they are NOT silent when switched to position 1 but instead make an extremely high-pitched and very annoying sound. I kept two of these, turned on at about 6ft apart. Both were on position 1 (which the incredibly poorly written instructions describe as the sound of a bat) and after getting bitten 3 times I turned them on to position 2 (described as dragonfly sound here on Amazon, and male mosquito sound on the packaging) it actually seemed to attract more mosquitoes, so I got bitten 4 more times and my friend got 2 bites. I did this experiment for three nights in a row, trying just one device for fear that the two might be interfering with each others' sound and being ineffective...just got more bites. I practically saw the mosquitoes flying right around the device.

Look, it's a magnificent piece of junk, that's what it is. It's rare for me to write a good review, and even more rare to write a bad one, but in this case I couldn't wait to give this garbage the one star. If I could leave no stars I would!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not repel mosquitoes, July 16, 2010

I really hoped this thing would work, but as my wife & I each tried one out, we literally watched mosquitoes buzzing around us and even around the repeller itself. We tried both settings, and could hear that a signal was being emitted, but it seemed to make absolutely no difference to the mosquitoes.

I can hear the sound that it makes and it's annoying to me but it does not seem to bother the bugs. I tried the different settings with no luck. What a waste. Stop selling garbage with false claims attached.

I'm very allergic to mosquito bites so bought this product to use as a back up to bug spray. However, when installing the battery, one of the plastic grooves broke and I now have the thing taped together which means that the battery case is not totally secure and it does not work reliably. It's very cheapily made. I have no idea if it works to repel mosquitoes; I will probably keep it in my purse and use it occassionally. But I would definitely not rely on it solely and will not be buying a replacement battery.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing..., June 2, 2010

I only wish I could give this item a rave review. I wish even that I could give it more than one star... I cannot, unfortunately.

I bought this a week or two ago, and have been waiting for an apt opportunity to try it. This evening, while I was moving lawn sprinklers, I found my lawn to be positively teeming with mosquitoes. I jumped at the chance to finally see if it worked... Well, I couldn't see as it had any effect on the little buggers, on either one of the two settings. They swarmed me, biting without reservation. I decided to try a new battery in the device, with the hope that perhaps the one which came installed was low. The repeller had no greater effect than before, much to my chagrin. I always hated having to put on other types of repellent, so I had very high hopes for this clean and easy approach.

Oh, and a side note, though I don't recommend buying this, the flashlight isn't usable while the repeller is turned on.

The back side of the packaging clearly states that at setting 1, the device repels MALE mosquitoes. But it is the female ones that require blood for egg production.
The male mosquitoes feed on flower nectar and sweet juices.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother, November 4, 2010

I bought something similar before from another manufacturer that worked great. It emitted a high pitched sound, that isn't too noticeable by humans. I thought this would be the same, except for the fact that it didn't work. I popped in the battery in the correct way and got nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of money, August 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This little keychain seems like a simple, cheap answer to mosquitoes. Unfortunately, it only works for about an hour. Let me clarify: it makes sound for an hour; I have no idea if it actually kept mosquitoes away. Regardless of if it works, this kind of terrible workmanship ensures that I regret even the few dollars I spent on this item. Frustrating.

It has 2 settings so if you are acosted by some tough buggers you can switch to the higher setting which has a slight sound. The lower setting has no sound. HDE's shipping was really fast. I will buy from them again.
