I wanted to play with this game a full solid week so that I could give a solid review. I could not wait for this game to come out. I am a big Mario Kart fan and have been looking for a game just as good as Mario Kart. I've purchased some other racing games like Speed Racer, Excitebots and Sims Racing. All these games are pretty good but they do not compete with my favorite Mario Kart. That is until now with Sonic & Sega All Star Racing. The similarites to Mario Kart are pretty much the same. You have your Grand Prix Racing that you have to come in top 3 to move on to the next level. You also have your Time Trial Racers. The most fun I have is playing live on Wi Fi with other people. You have different courses like Mario Kart but the racing syle is different. In Sonic it is all about the drift. When you curve around a corner you have to drift. In doing this you get a turbo boost that moves you ahead. You also pick up weapons to use against your opponents like Mario. When you are towards the back of the race you may also get an All Star move, sort of like the Rocket in Mario to move you ahead. So the similarties are really close when it comes to Sonic Vs. Mario. The only difference is learning how to race in a different way than Mario. Also when you are in the air you can flip your vehicle up to 3 x's and this will also give you a Turbo Boost when you land.
Now, what I don't like about this game is that you can't destroy your fellow racers like you can on Mario. You really can't crash into them and knock them off the road. You can use your weapons but that is about it. Mario is more fun when you get your opponents and speed ahead of them. Another thing that they did wrong was when playing the Grand Prix games you cannot quit or leave in the middle of a 4 course game. After each game there is not option to quit. So if you lose your first game and want to restart you are going to have to reboot your wii. Another thing that I don't like about the game is that you play Live you enter a lobby. The first person in the room is in charge of what games you are going to play and you have no say in the matter. You can leave the lobby and come back in but that is a hassle. Also there doesn't seem to be that many people playing live yet. Probably because the game is still new. The last problem I had with the game are alot of error readings when playing live. It seems like I have to wait a long time to get in a game and then sometimes not often I get an error message saying I have been disconnected. I think that it has something to do with that other people have left the race. All in all I would have to say that this has become one of my favorite games. Is it as good as Mario? No Is it pretty close to Mario? Yes. I have been playing this game every night this week just as much as I do mario and even find it to be a little less frustrating than Mario at times. All in all a must have for any Mario Kart fan.

Got the game and spent hours last night playing (and laughing out loud at times, M Kart doesn't have the sense of humor this game does). The cars feel heavier and slower than Mario Kart at first, which a few laps around the track lets you adjust. They need this for the drift feature which you use heavily to speed up. Have to say the thumb gets a better workout here than on M Kart due to using this feature so much. If you are a Sega fan you will love your characters, I played as Amigo, Beat, BD Joe and Ulala so far. Love Ulala the best, she is funny with all that dancing while driving. Tracks are good, and it's easy to unlock stuff. Having some problems playing online but that may be my router that keeps getting me disconnected, not sure. Definitely worth the money and no regrets on the purchase!

My wife and I are super Mario Cart Fans. We've bought at least 7 or 8 other race games but none hold a candle to Mario Carts. Will now we have one that does. Sonic Sega All-Stars is a ton of fun. It's a big game with lots to do. 24 colorful, detailed tracks that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Lots of power ups that are unique to the game. You can also use your Wii person that you may have made to drive the car. It makes me look fat. If you like Mario Carts, I don't see any way you would be sorry for purchasing this game. I bought mine from Amazon (free shipping) and had it in three or four days.

When you think of gimmick racing games that uses cartoony characters, you immediately think of Mario Kart. While that franchise has made long lasting games, It can be a bit redundant to play as characters in the Mario family.
Fortunately, Sega has created a similar genre racing game that takes all its iconic characters from Sega lore and produces a rather enjoyable experience. The controls are easy to pick up, and the music's nice as well. I also enjoyed how they implemented a system where you use your points earned within the game to unlock characters, etc. The game's only main weakness is framerate issues when racing online, but overall and impressive game.

Want another racing game that's up to the standards of Mario Kart? This is it! As some reviews have said about the pros: 24 tracks, great drift, tricks & weapons, and each car has a special move. Lots of challenge games, missions, etc for the single player. My only downside is there's no "Team Racing" as in Mario Kart, with more racers on the track. Every race is a single race. But my 9-year-old son loves it. Other than that, go out and buy it.

I thought this game would be short like most "kiddy" racing games but it proved me wrong. Although the cup series isn't THAT long, they have different difficulty settings which makes it that much more challenging and worth your money. There are plenty of missions to play and the Wii wifi was a cool feature that I didn't even know about. Overall, great game and even as a college student, I play this game myself whenever I have downtime.

This game is brilliant. I love having a racing game using ALL of the Sega games not just Sonic (BTW: to make the races fair Sonic's driving a car because he can run at the speed of sound). This game is very much like Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart Wii but with more tracks to race and much better graphics. It's cool that instead of go karts they all use soap box style vehicles they've made from their own individual game worlds. The more you play the more points you earn to unlock tons of features ranging from mission modes to new playable racers. The massive amount of secret content is very reminiscent of the Smash Bros. or SoulCalibur. You can use the Wii Wheel (like in Mario Kart) or the Classic Controller to play and there's online races as well.
I snagged this awesome game for $40 bucks with a Wii Wheel separately for $10 when it first came out and I'd do it again. For my money it's the best racer on the Wii for all the content they packed into it. If you're lucky to see it for less it'll be a steal. Buy it now.

Not much more can be said about this great game than has already been said. My brother (22), myself (24), and our parents have played this (4 people at once) with LOTS of excitement & fun memories. In comparing it with Mario Kart, the graphics are definitely different. In this one, it's a bit more overpowering for the eyes & I find myself going cross-eyed for a second. We were constantly beating the tracks in Mario Kart, but the ones in Sonic Sega All-Stars Racing are more competitive with the computer withOUT an unfair advantage against the person in the lead. In Mario, when you were 1st in a race, you'd fear for the attacks that would come... bullets, obstacles, and bombs that could be directed at you from 12th place. In Sonic, with 8 players, that doesn't happen! I believe there is one special missal one of the characters can shoot occasionally that will go for the person in the lead, but also stuns everyone else it passes. PROS: *We found it a bit more of a challenge than Mario Kart *The character in the lead is in NO more danger of being knocked out of the race than any of the other characters. *When you drive off the side of a cliff, it is quick to get you back on track. *Drift is fun! Hold A & B at the same time to accomplish drift in Sonic. When the Remote shakes, let go of drift & you'll get a boost! CONS: *The characters don't seem as endearing as Mario Kart *Graphics are disorienting at first. *Some of the tracks are VERY difficult, and require you to carefully navigate the winding road with breaks & drift often. *Competition is fierce & one wrong move can send you to the back of the pack. BOTH: *You can unlock new tracks. In Sonic, you can also unlock new characters & music. The price is right, the tracks are fun, and there are features I have to yet explore. Battle is fun, but there aren't as many arenas in which to battle (compared with Mario). There is also a "capture the flag" version & a few others... I'll let you know what I think when they're played. After a week of the game, my entire family is still very pleased! :) Even more to explore, unlock, and race.

Sonic Sega All-Stars is a well made, interesting, and fun racing game. I was looking for a game as good as (or close to) Mario Kart. Sonic is it. There are a wide variety of courses, drivers, and vehicles. The graphics are excellent. Overall racing speed seems to be a bit quicker, so you have to be somewhat familiar with a course before you can zoom through it. You can drive in a time trial, single race, grand prix (4 races) or in "mission mode", where you have to accomplish a specific goal. There are 3 levels of difficulty.
Unlike Mario Kart there are flying vehicles as well as cars, trucks and motorcycles. You earn "Sega Miles" for distances raced; as you accumulate miles you can unlock additional drivers, courses, and background music in "shopping" mode. Sonic Racing is well worth buying, especially at such a low price (About half the price of Mario Kart). |
