5.0 out of 5 stars A Definitive Worship Album.
Sonicflood's self-titled 1999 debut is the only album released by it's original line-up. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great edgy 90s rock worship
I recently bought this CD based on the glowing reviews here. I was not disappointed when I listened to it. It's a great CD, a worship epiphany. It has a few excellent tracks, some heartfelt narratives, and some great tracks.

I see reviewers here that dismiss the later SonicFlood CDs because of extensive personnel changes. But I also bought Cry Holy at the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definitive Worship Album., December 17, 2003

Sonicflood's self-titled 1999 debut is the only album released by it's original line-up. The band was formed out of the ashes of a band called Zilch which consisted of members of DC Talk's backing band. The original line-up featured on this CD is lead singer Jeff Deyo, keyboardist Jason Halbert, guitarist Dwayne Larring and drummer Aaron Blanton. Bass player Otto Price was also a member of the original band but opted not to join full-time. He still is on the album as a studio guest.
Upon its release in early 1999, "Sonicflood" (the album) became a runaway success and helped pave the way for a new movement in Modern Praise and Worship music. Suddenly, there were Worship bands forming everywhere and many other artists who had been in the business for awhile began to jump on the Worship train as well.
Why was this album so successful? Because it was something new, different and fully annointed. Besides the original songs "Holy One", "I Have Come To Worship" and "Carried Away", the band offers some outstanding rocked-up versions of "In The Secret" (aka "I Want To Know You"), "Open The Eyes Of My Heart", "Holiness" and Matt Redman's classic "The Heart Of Worship". There are also some notable appearances from Out of Eden's Lisa Kimmey who duets with Jeff Deyo on "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever" (originally by Delirious) and DC Talk's Kevin Max who provides guest vocals on a tremendous rendition of Bill Gaither's "There's Just Something About That Name".
It is without wonder why Sonicflood's first album struck a chord with so many people. It was and still is a great album and the band's original line-up was its best. After the release of this album, the band added a new bass player Rick Heil. By mid-2000, Jeff Deyo would be forced out of the band which in turn lead to the other three original members leaving. Sonicflood now exists in name only with bassist Rick Heil now singing lead vocals, Todd Shay on guitar, David Alan on keyboards, Brett Vargason on drums and Heil's own bass spot taken by Tom Michael.
The great memories of the original Sonicflood still remain though with this album and its live follow-up "Sonicpraise". "Sonicflood" is definitely a must-have addition to anyone's Worship music collection. It is one of those albums which will probably still be listened to 10 years from now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, it's Christian rock thats praise centered, June 9, 1999
This review is from: Sonicflood (Audio CD)
Sonicflood is an amazing CD. It does what much of Christian music (Christian rock that is) has not been doing lately, it brings everything straight to God, no metaphors, but rather straight out lyrics praising God. Its a good balance of old praise songs redone with some awesome new songs. Its worth the price just to hear their version of I Want to Know You, you've probally never heard anything like it before. It makes praise music not praise and praise music at the same time. This CD has reawoken a passion for praise, something that I've been lacking. After hearing The Heart of Worship you really see how the whole CD is a great example of how neccesary praise is. This CD is amazing, trust me, you've never heard anything quite like them. In a time when Christian music is consisted of lyrics whose messages are hidden in metaphors and bands selling out to fame, Sonicflood is something that truly stands out from the rest. The CD puts God before the band, it inspires much and brings back much that has been lost in much of Christian music.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great worship CD with an awesome sound., September 22, 1999

BUY THIS CD!!! Sonicflood is truly an awesome experience. If your looking for something to bring you to "the heart of worship", this is the CD for you. It has many of today's great worship songs; songs that will bring you into a state of worship no matter what your feeling. The words just carry you away. And although this is a great worship CD, it doesn't have that "praise and worship" kind of sound that you normally associate with that kind of music. Sonic Flood has a unique and amazing sound that is simply captivating. Great sounding music with a great message that can have an amazing impact on your life. It's AWESOME!!!

Okay, I admit that I'm probably quite a bit older than the average listener of this CD. Being a 40-something mom of 3 almost grown kids, I wasn't too sure about this new CD the youngest brought home (chosen at the Christian bookstore at random?!). My tastes usually run a bit mellower than I thought this album would be.

I was really surprised. This is a truly awesome album and fills a much-needed niche for "edgier" but very heartfelt and sincere worship music that speaks to the hearts and souls of kids today.

My favorite songs on this album are "I Want to Know You More", "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever", and lastly but perhaps my very favorite is "Heart of Worship". This song just says it all.

If you love the Lord and want to worship Him more, you'll love this CD! Please check out my other reviews of Christian music and books.

5.0 out of 5 stars my FAVORITE cd!, November 28, 1999
By A Customer

Wow. How do I express what a GREAT cd this is? I bought it on impulse knowing nothing about the band except that a friend had told me it was good. Well, good just doesn't cut it! It's been months since I bought it and SonicFlood is still the number 1 cd in my stereo! This band takes "ordinary" worship songs and puts the life back into them, with a delicious, mouthwatering rock flavor that I just can't get enough of! If only all Christian music was this great. There's no fluff here, it's all raw praise! SonicFlood has helped me get back to the heart of worship.

Sonicfood is the band at my youth group. I listen to them live every Tuesday. I haven't bought the CD, but they play a few of the songs from this CD. Everyone in the band is cool and they all have wonderful voices.

5.0 out of 5 stars BLOWN AWAY, November 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sonicflood (Audio CD)
This is some of the most amazing music I have every heard. I like good hard rock, and I also like worship music. This group accommodates both of these desires in their... almost divine music! I always thought that spicing up a traditionally slow and boring song was lame, but these guys don't just spice the songs up, they RECREATE the songs in a new light that is satisfying to rockers and Christians alike. I would literally pay $500 for this CD. I am 16, and I used to listen to stuff like Metallica to satisfy my rock tastes, but now, I might as well throw that stuff away; I never listen to it anymore. My soul rejoices the power of God when I listen to Sonicflood; Sonicflood is amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars These words attempt to do an amazing album justice, April 29, 2002
This review is from: Sonicflood (Audio CD)
I am a recent SONICFLOOd fan, and, of course, was disappointed to discover that SONICFLOOd, as represented on this and the live CD, is no more. However, this CD is enough to keep me going for a long time. Although many of the songs are "covers", they are the most energetic, perfected versions that I have heard. This album is worlds better than most Christian CDs for one big reason: Jeff Deyo has an amazing voice.

1. Invocation
2. I Have Come to Worship You- Kicks off the string of three energetic songs. The harmonies are tight, and the vocals are irresistable. 4.5/5
3. Holy One- An original composition, this song matches up to any of the covers present. 4.5/5
4. I Want to Know You (aka In The Secret)- One of the two best fast songs on the album. The catchy "ba"'s in the beginning hint to the non-stop energy of the song which leaves you wanting for more. But it is here that the tides change... 5/5
5. My Refuge- The first slow track on the album, at first it did not appeal to me that much. But then, I heard the chorus. Jeff Deyo's voice soars as he testifies that "when there's nowhere to turn, and there's nothing that's true- I find my peace here in You". 5/5
6. I Could Sing of Your Love Forever- You've probably heard this, done in a similar fashion with a female (Lisa from Out of Eden) on vocals. Deyo's voice doesn't cease to amaze me, and the beauty of the song cannot be denied. 4.5/5
7. Holiness- THE BEST song on the album, in my mind. Inspired by the beautiful and, for me, life-changing verse of Romans 12:2, this quietly asks God to change you...from the inside out. Your heart, mind and will. It's beautiful. I wish they had written it! 5/5
8. Carried Away- Great track. Perhaps the best bridge on the whole album. It's a rocking ballad for 4 minutes and leaves you spent by the end. It reminds me of God's love as an ocean, ready to carry us away. 4.5/5
9. Something About that Name- To be honest, I rarely listen to this track. It's a beautiful song lyrically, but when it comes down to it compared to the other songs, it's just not as good. 3.5/5
10. I Need You- Wonderful ballad which works to simplify God: "Love, I need love, You are love, I need You". 5/5
11. Open the Eyes of My Heart- If you have not heard this song, than make sure you listen to this version! It's SONICFLOOd at their best. (The other best fast song on the album) 5/5
12. Heart of Worship- No words for this one, it's too personal of a song. When you buy the album, you can listen. 4/5

The songs are beautiful, but also make sure you're aware that a good deal of talking goes on in between tracks. It's great stuff, but not wholly expected in a musical arrangement. I recommend using this recording as a vehicle to come to terms with your own faith, not SONICFLOOd's. Be inspired by them, but their faith cannot be yours. I own hundreds of CDs, and, honestly, this is the best one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new way to worship, December 30, 2000
This review is from: Sonicflood (Audio CD)
This CD attracted me because of the awesome praise and wroship songs that are quickly becoming popular in churches and youth groups. It is such a great feeling to know you're worhiping the Lord while listening to uplifting music for teens or adults! I'm 15 and I love it! I love listening to bands that are an inspiration as people too. They are so sincere about giving God all the glory and praise, and the CD is full of meaning and true devotion to Jesus. They don't make this music for us; they do it all for God. That in itself is enough to make me wanna hear 'em.
