Love it! Much Better than the ZyXEL USG200,

This review is from: Sonicwall Nsa 240 Multicore Utm (Personal Computers)
I purchased a ZyXEL USG200 per their Technical sales and had some issues with bandwidth. We are on DS3 (45mbps UP/Down) and whenever I applied the Content Protection or AntiVirus, I lost almost half of my bandwidth. If I applied both, I lost more than a third so I saw speeds more like 12mbps up and 15mbps down.
Both the Sonic Wall and ZyXEL have issues in my opinion that makes them both a bit difficult to navigate through their web configuration pages. BUT the Sonicwall blows the ZyXEL out of the water in terms of speed and overall user experience. A lot of the changes made during the configuration occur almost instantaneously when applied. The ZyXEL USG200 seems sluggish at best. The Sonicwall still eats up about 10mbps on the download and about 5mbps on the upload with all services ON, but we mostly upload so I'm not complaining that much at the moment. PRO: You get what you pay for. The dual-core processing can be felt and experienced throughout Web Configuration and noticed in the throughput. CON: I think Sonicwall rapes the small business in regards to annual updates, support charges, and OS Updates. ZyXEL is much cheaper, but Sonicwall overall has much better quality in regards security coverage. If exceptional security and high bandwidth is what you need, then buy this product. Otherwise, buy the ZyXEL USG300 not the USG200 if you need bandwidth and throughput. ZyXEL should be less expensive overall, and security should be quite sufficient for most. NOTE: ZyXEL has tremendous technical support and sales. They treated me like I was their most important customer. I went with Sonicwall because I needed the extra security and throughput for just a bit more for the price. In the long term I may regret however paying the exorbitant annual costs for Sonicwall services.
