The prospect of a water leak is bad enough, but a sneaky water leak--the kind that goes undetected until the otherwise preventable damage is beyond the point of quick repair--is far worse. Sonin's wireless water alarm, with its transmitter range of up to 50 feet, will fix this problem by alerting you to leaks near your hot water heater, washing machine, dishwasher, sump pump, or other water-bearing unit. You can even use it when filling a tub or a swimming pool; when the mountable sensor detects water, the alarm goes off. It's easy to use, too: simply mount the remote sensor in the desired location, hang the transmitter within 6 feet, and place the receiver within your range of hearing. The unit comes with an AC adapter but can also be powered by batteries. In the event of a leak or overflow, the alarm will sound for up to three days (provided no one responds initially). Three easy steps:
1.) Place remote sensor where water might collect and hang transmitter up to 6 feet away.
2.) Then place Receiver within your range of hearing - up to 50 feet away from transmitter -- even on another floor.
3.) Test Unit to make certain it is within range.

Anyone who has ever had a flood in their home can appreciate the agony you feel when you do not notice it for days. Several years ago, that was me. My hot water heater went on me and I did not know until after everything in my home office was destroyed.

I was given a Sonin Wireless Water Alarm as a gift when I purchased my current home. Last month, I had another leak, but this time I was prepared. The alarm sounded and I was able to go downstairs to see the problem. I immediately turned off the water main and called a plumber. Whew! Saved by the bell...

I purchased this wireless water alarm because I could not hear my "basement watchdog" alarm over the sound of the water recently when I was taking a shower. 30 more seconds of shower and my basement would have been flooded. Good thing I quit the shower when I did. All I ended up with was a laundry room with about 10 square feet of concrete floor covered with water and no damage. So I did a lot of research and in spite of a few negative reviews which I read, I purchased the Sonin. It works excellent for me, but I only use it over a distance of about 15 feet from the basement to the upstairs bathroom. I am buying another one for our second bathroom. As far as the fact that some people don't seem to like it, maybe they are placing the receiver a bit farther away from the sensing unit. I am very pleased with this product.

Perfect for my needs. You can actually set multiple transmitters with the same code to trigger a single receiver, if desired. Only drawback is no AC adapter option for the transmitter.
