Anyone who has ever had a flood in their home can appreciate the agony you feel when you do not notice it for days. Several years ago, that was me. My hot water heater went on me and I did not know until after everything in my home office was destroyed.

I was given a Sonin Wireless Water Alarm as a gift when I purchased my current home. Last month, I had another leak, but this time I was prepared. The alarm sounded and I was able to go downstairs to see the problem. I immediately turned off the water main and called a plumber. Whew! Saved by the bell...

I purchased this wireless water alarm because I could not hear my "basement watchdog" alarm over the sound of the water recently when I was taking a shower. 30 more seconds of shower and my basement would have been flooded. Good thing I quit the shower when I did. All I ended up with was a laundry room with about 10 square feet of concrete floor covered with water and no damage. So I did a lot of research and in spite of a few negative reviews which I read, I purchased the Sonin. It works excellent for me, but I only use it over a distance of about 15 feet from the basement to the upstairs bathroom. I am buying another one for our second bathroom. As far as the fact that some people don't seem to like it, maybe they are placing the receiver a bit farther away from the sensing unit. I am very pleased with this product.

Perfect for my needs. You can actually set multiple transmitters with the same code to trigger a single receiver, if desired. Only drawback is no AC adapter option for the transmitter.

The radio link on mine failed after 6 months, although each half tests normally by itself. I confirmed the batteries are good, codes match, etc.
It's disappointing that something as important as a water alarm would be built sloppily. This unit is made in China, which may explain the quality problem.
Nice design, when it works. We'll see if the replacement holds up any better.

Great idea for a product, but the reciever stopped working after a year. It worked when first installed, and I checked it again after a few months and everything was ok, but it has now stopped working, and, yes, I did check the obvious things like the batteries. It was not exposed to harsh conditions, or anything like that, so I can only conclude this is a seriously flawed product. Think about it, for something like this where you absolutly depend on it working when you need it, failure like this is not acceptable. Fortunately I caught the problem by testing it before there was any leak, but I will be using a different flood alarm.

At first I was skeptical about the quality of this item based on it's low price. I was genuinely impressed by the sturdiness of case on both the sensor and the receiver. The performance is just as good. I tested it in the sink before installation and it worked fine. The two halves are not only 30 feet away from each other, the receiver is upstairs tucked away behind a table. After two weeks I purposely spilled some water on the sensor and the Sonin worked perfectly again-a great product.

After finishing my basement, I installed a water-powered backup sump pump and an alarm to alert me if the water level ever approached the back up sump activation level. The problem was that I couldn't hear the alarm from anywhere upstairs. This wireless alarm was exactly what I needed. The remote unit is centrally located in the house, and now if the alarm in the basement goes off, I will be able to hear it from anywhere in the house. I recommend NOT using the AC adapter for the remote/portable unit: let the batteries run down normally, so you'll know to change the batteries on the alarm, too, because the alarm unit does NOT have an AC adapter on it.

Did not function even 15 feet away. Only function at base, not remote. Ask me, I suffered a fewer back up and couldn't hear it from my family room toilet.

Great idea but the wireless link stopped working on a unit purchased 11-2005. Both units test ok & have fresh batteries & proper dip settings. The sensor alarm will still sound at the leak source.

I've had one now for about 7 months, the base sensor/alarm unit works fine but the separate remote wireless receiver/alarm stopped working after a few months, i tried all the suggestions the customer service agent recommended with no luck, price is low but i guess you get what you pay for...not recommended...
