4.0 out of 5 stars good tool for "guesstimating"
I design office layouts and was hoping this would replace the need to drag around several tape measures. This is a good tool if you want to know approxiamate distances. I found it to be off about 1"-3" for every 10', depending on the temperature. You have to acclimate the tool to the surrounding room temperature. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not Very Accurate
I was a bit deceived when I saw this. It says "Laser Target Range Finder" and would have you beleive it actually uses a laser to measure. It doesn't. It uses ultrasound with a laser sight. Ultrasound is very imprecise. It expands like a cone so at 60 feet your target is several feet across.

Read the accuracy on this, 99.5% +/- 1/4" What that means is at...

I found it to be off about 1"-3" for every 10', depending on the temperature. You have to acclimate the tool to the surrounding room temperature. I wish the more accurate laser measuring devices were more affordable, I tried this instead and now I have I nifty ... tool I never use. If you need precision you'll have to shell out the bucks for a laser tool or keep that trusty measuring tape.

Read the accuracy on this, 99.5% +/- 1/4" What that means is at 60 ft. you could get an error of almost 4". Instead, get a true laser measure, that are now available for under $100. They are accurate to +/- 1/4" at 100 ft. Do the math. That's almost 16 times as accurate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbeatible Tool for Accurate Estimating, June 11, 2000

Especially a useful helper when measuring awkward or inaccessable spaces such as high ceilings, attics, crawl-spaces, over-water, and shafts. Especially useful outdoors where heavy brush would tangle a tape - but be sure to use a flat target to measure against. Memory feature saves having to make notes. At this price, a super investment!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, June 28, 2003

If I could do it over again, I'd spend a bit more for a better unit. The "on-off" switch is cheap and lacks a solid feel. The beam is too broad and if there is furniture in the room, the unit is likely to mistake the furniture for your intended target. The laser beam is only minimally helpful because the measurement occurs as soon as you press the "go" button (by the time you point the laser at exactly what you wish to measure, the measurement has already occurred). There should be a one second delay. The included pouch failed (the vinyl tore) very soon after I began to use it - and there was no abuse.

This unit does work, but it has enough shorcomings that I would recommend shopping for a more solid, reliable, better made range finder - even at a higher cost.

I'm not sure who wrote the other reviews or if this one will see the light of day but this thing is a piece of junk.
About as accurate as a guess. I suspect the other reviews I saw before buying mine came from the vendor or someone who didn't care if they actually got an accurate measurement or not.
If you spend a dollar on this thing you spent too much.

I purchased the Sonin 10075 and have used it both at home and at work. I recently purchased a new home and used it to measure all the rooms for furniture placement. I am an R&D Engineer and have used it extensively at work to accurately measure the distance from our cameras to objects 20 to 22 feet away. I find it very accurate and easy to use. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone needing to measure distances quickly and accurately without a tape measure. I used it both indoor and outdoors with good result. Realize of course that it is ultrasonic and must be used to measure flat surfaces only.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless, July 8, 2008
This review is from: Sonin 10075 Laser Target Range Finder (Tools & Home Improvement)
Despite the word "laser" being used in a rather deceptive manner in this product's name, it uses ultrasound technology, not laser, to determine the measurements; the laser is just there to... er... what is it there for? Aiming the "sonic beam"? Yeah, right. It's there to justify the use of the word "laser" in the product name, and that's about it.
The joke is that you don't have to spend that much more to get a real laser tape measure that works well, like the CST/Stanley 77-910 TLM100 FatMax Tru-Laser 1/4-Inch at 100 Feet Laser Measurer.
Don't waste your money on this useless product.

i understand that these things are only estimators and cannot replace a tape.but this thing must be kept perfectly still and straight or readings are off 3 feet!also readings are never cosistant or my hand is not steady enough.i dont know what byou could use this thing for.it is totally inaccurate, unless i got a bad one.however i will not send it back because i dont have time to hassle with this.i already wasted an hour or so trying to learn how to use it.also i found key pad very confusing and complicated.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sonin 10075 Range Finder, July 30, 2009

It can't measure to a tree (no good for yard planning). It can't measure to a person (no good for photography). It can't measure to a stucco or stucco-like surface (no good for interior work).
It can ONLY measure to a FLAT (no angles) surface and it MUST be at a 90 degree angle to that surface and it must be in a quiet place (it works, when it does, with reflected-sound).
So, if you want to measure to a flat and smooth surface and your dog doesn't bark, then this thing may be for you.
I would return it as "unsatisfactory" but the item cost vs the postage cost makes me stuck with it.

I bought this for a friend; so I had little time to test it. However, when I tried it, it worked fine. Distance measurements were acceptable for a range finder of this price point. It also came with a carrying case, which is very useful. Overall, this is good value for money for the average user.
