5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Rammstein CD single, November 1, 2001
By
P. Bjel (Richmond Hill, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sonne (Audio CD)
Rammstein never cease to amaze me. I became a fan some time ago, attracted not only by their smashing and near-addictive music, but also by their uniqueness. Seldom does one find a band that is so original in the work they put out and so realistic in the themes they sing about. I am picky with the bands I hold near and dear (and there are only a select few to which I intently listen), but Rammstein has far exceeded my expectations, especially with their recent 2001 releases, which culminated with their fine album MUTTER, but began with this current single under review, entitled SONNE.

This single was released on February 12, 2001, the first tidbit of new material from Rammstein since 1998. This single is absolutely perfect; the songs it has drawn together fit so magnificently; the remixes by the Scandinavian band Clawfinger (tracks 3 and 4) are in themselves amazing, almost like they were separate pieces. They do Rammstein honour in remixing "Sonne," which in several online opinion polls, ranks as one of the most popular songs in recent days by them. Its apocalyptic tone, yet ambiguous meaning makes you imagine vast arrays of imagery; one can only speculate as to what Rammstein just might be pointing toward. Without the words (the instrumental version), the song engrosses the listener even more so, because sole music has no boundaries for an active imagination. A similar line can be drawn with the song "Adios," which seems to be narrating the experience of a desperate (and dependent) drug user. Tracks one and two would later appear on the MUTTER album.

The tracklisting is as follows:

(1) Sonne (4:32)
(2) Adios (3:48)
(3) Sonne (Clawfinger K. O. Remix) (4:11)
(4) Sonne (Clawfinger T. K. O. Remix) (5:49)
(5) Sonne (Instrumental) (4:31)

An amazing prelude to Rammstein's fine album MUTTER; although two more singles were released following its appearance (and one more is supposedly in the making), SONNE definitely tops them all. Absolutely amazing and riveting music; I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Sonne" the New Single From Rammstein, February 23, 2001

I've been a Rammstein fan since 1996, and I gotta tell ya, this is the best single Rammstein has put out! It beats "Du Hast" by a land slide. "Sonne" (means "Sun" in German) has hard, and soft guitar rifts that will blow your mind. "Adios" (a song on the single) has hard and fast guitar rifts that will make you go crazy! I'm telling you, this is the single to get, you really don't want to miss out on this! It's too great to say "No" to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Here comes the sun, May 9, 2001
This review is from: Sonne (Audio CD)
Yeah, that's what they sing ("Hier kommt die Sonne"). The lyrics aren't very good but the sound is amazing. I don't know the complete "Mutter" album but you might want to consider buying that. This single has "Sonne" and "Adios" which are both on the album, and, contrary to the tracklisting on the back...it has no song titled "Clawfinger". The two tracks that are [seem to be mistakenly] called "Clawfinger" are remixes of "Sonne" by a Scandinavian band named Clawfinger. There's also an instrumental version of "Sonne". So this has no non-album track and is interesting mainly for collectors who like remixes. The next single will be more interesting ("Links 2 3 4"). It has been announced that it will feature "Halleluja", a track that does not appear on the regular versions of "Mutter", but only on expensive special editions...

5.0 out of 5 stars Crikey....., April 17, 2001
This review is from: Sonne (Audio CD)
I have been a RammStein fan now for about an hour, and yes, and hour is all it took me to become hooked. Basically this is a band that knows their stuff. "Sonne" sends goosepimples down your spine; soulfull, deep, moving, powerfull. I've been converted, something that "sonne" accomplished alone - buy the song, this may sound pretentious but this song has changed my musical life... seriously buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rammstein Takes a New Direction, March 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sonne (Audio CD)
I wouldn't say it's bad though. Herzeleid was very harsh and militant, while Sehensucht showed a calmer (well, sort of) band and had Till actually sing. Sonne has the strong drumbeats of classic Rammstein while the refrain seems more mellow, more musical. Adios is an almost complete step away from the norm, with a more American sound. This single definately shows Rammstein's evolving style. I've heard (as much as possible) the new CD and it is much more musical (almost more of a soundtrack than a band) than classic Rammstein. Wonderful CD. Wonderful music, evolved as it is. Wonderful band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easily the best song in Rammstein's repetoire, February 27, 2001

Till and the boys claim that the material from Mutter has a fuller and more experimental song than their last two works, Herzeleid and Sehnsucht; in that, they're exactly right. Sonne is a more mid-tempo, moody piece. Gone are the machine gun riffs from Du Hast and they're replaced with a more fluid style. The chorus is enough to give one goosebumps, a slow, deep, near dirge-like atmosphere. The b-side, Adios, is a return to the style from songs like Du Hast and Wollt Ihr Das Bett En Flamen Sehen. Also from the Mutter album, check out Links 234, a fast-paced, harder song, and the title track, a slower song much like Sonne or Seemann. Keep the great music coming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this CD! Now!, February 26, 2001
This review is from: Sonne (Audio CD)
I know, it's hard for you to get this CD in USA or Canada, but: it's worth that! This song is the first release from the new album, called "Mutter", which will soon be available in Germany. Every Metal fan as well as all the other people are eager waiting for this new one. The song is great, all fits together: the hard riffs and Till Lindemann's clear dark vocals alternate with an tuneful refrain in which a female vocal hums the melody in cooperation with the guitars and keyboard. Get this CD! I swear you will never regret it.

I've been a fan of Rammstien since 1996, and I gotta say this is the best single yet! "Sonne" means "Sun" in German, the guitar rifts are great! Starting off hard, then soft, then hard. "Adios" which is a song on this single is hard, fast and great! The whole single is the best Rammstein has put out! It beats "Du Hast" by a land slide! If you are looking for a new song that's hard and fast, I recommend this! No words can describe it, you must hear it for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality and Superior Industrial Music, May 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sonne (Audio CD)
By far the best Rammstein music out there. No one comes even near Rammstein when it comes to industrial music. They have dominated the field with this one. Although "Sonne" is accualy the second Rammstein song I heard, with it I have become a follower. There seems to be some sort of magical quality to it. You can tell that a lot of heart, sewt, blood, tears, mind, and soul went into the making of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rammstein's best representation of musical talent, March 18, 2001

Rammstein has always been a great band, but this CD was a definative of their ability. It's so much more moving and stronger than the others. The way they applied more to their music by adding little touches makes it all the more worth listening to. I recommend this to any person who loves moving music that is definately on the hard side.
