2.0 out of 5 stars Why is it that all the books with pretty covers have no content?
One of the main reasons I wanted this book (I received it for my Birthday) is because I am a huge fan of smart, intuitive, women using their wits and applying deduction and acute observations, to solve mysteries, and create an ending I didn't see coming. 5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent conclusion to the series..., October 23, 2010
Serafina, Dylan, and the rest of the gang are back for another round of mystery solving in 19th century London!

All of London is on alert when high society women start turning up murdered. A serial killer is on the loose, and his gruesome methods have earned him the nickname "The Slasher." Scotland Yard is baffled by the badly written poems and many false clues the killer leaves at each scene, so Lady Serafina Trent is brought in to try to help solve the case and uncover the identity of the "Slasher"....
Meanwhile, when Dylan's childhood sweetheart, Meredith, suddenly appears in London, he does what he can to help her get her footing in the city. Serafina is surprised to find feelings of jealousy rising when Meredith's attitude toward Dylan becomes possessive. Serafina starts to notice that certain things about Meredith don't quite add up, yet it's not her place to point these things out to Dylan. She will have to rely on her budding faith in God to direct her through her personal life, and also to guide her in the investigation of the Slasher.

The story here seemed very original, it's not just your normal murder-mystery. It really drew me in and made me wonder what the killer's motive was. I enjoyed seeing Serafina come to a realization of her feelings for Dylan, and while I wasn't extremely thrilled with Meredith's character, she did add a new layer to the story and I can definitely see that she was a necessary addition. Throughout the series I've appreciated how Dylan's faith affected Seraphina's thinking towards God, and that continues on in this book.

This was a great read, I really enjoyed it. I give it 4.5 stars, so I rounded up to 5. I can't decide if this one or the first is my favorite, but the whole series is a real treat and I definitely recommend all three books! I'll be looking for more books by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finale, October 18, 2010

The book was delivered in excellent condition within just a few days. Sonnet to a Dead Contessa was a fabulously written conclusion to the Lady Trent Mystery series. Written with suspense and details that kept a person at the edge of their seat wondering what would happen next, it contained a perfect ending. I would highly recommend this book - but only after reading the first two books of the series.

Gilbert Morris is my favorite Christian author. This series was captivating from the first page of the first book. This is the last book and I'm suffering withdrawal, will Lady Trent come back in book four? Hurry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lady Trent Mysteries, September 10, 2009
All three of the Lady Trent Mystery series are very good books. As always, Gilbert Morris does a stupendous job of writing from the female perspective and intersperces bits of "faith" in a quite natural way. Highly recommended!

This is a great book for fans of historical fiction, romance, and mystery! Gilbert Morris keeps the reader guessing until the end!

I always gauge a good book by the sound I make when I read the last word and close the cover.
I give this book a resounding. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."
Great plot, great characters, great Christian inspiration.

This is an exciting, and well written series, which I have continued to enjoy. This series is worth reading.

I really enjoyed this book, as I do all of Gilbert Morris's books. I miss him not writing as much but understand. Though I did predict who did it, it was fun guessing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why is it that all the books with pretty covers have no content?, November 3, 2011
One of the main reasons I wanted this book (I received it for my Birthday) is because I am a huge fan of smart, intuitive, women using their wits and applying deduction and acute observations, to solve mysteries, and create an ending I didn't see coming. The product description, the cover, the reviews, and the first chapter of this book, all pointed to that kind of an adventure. Unfortunately, this was not the case with this book. The protagonist, Serafina, almost never used her so called "scientific reasoning and astute observations". She would constantly miss clues that were right in front of her face, and did something especially stupid almost ending her own life. Thankfully Dylan Tremayne, the real hero and smart crime solving person of this book, was there to save her (He's the one who actually solved this whole thing, and ended up saving Serafina's butt twice). And if the lovely princess Serafina had done any research on the first victims day she would have come up with creditable list of suspects, and on that list would have been the killer (whom I figured out halfway through the book). And Serafina spends the previous two books in the series (I didn't read the others) not being a Christian, and all of the sudden she has an epiphany that we don't see that turns her scientific reasoning all around. Major character development opportunity missed. And the chemistry Serafina and Dylan had in the other two books, just felt more often than not, forced to say the least in this book.

The reason I gave this book one extra star than what it deserves, is because the writing wasn't half bad. The information given on the time period, the settings, and even the dresses, feel very authentic and aren't stuffed in there as an afterthought. Though the main character was stupid, putting it mildly, and major character development was never thought of. DON'T LET PRETTY COVERS FOOL YOU!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars After the Finale, it's Time for Fairy Cakes!, October 2, 2011
By
Dawn Kurtz "Victorian Gal" (Barberton, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
What a wonderful finish to the Lady Trent Series! I could not put the book down! Lady Serafina completely unthaws in book three, Sonnet to a Dead Contessa. Finally her faith expands and she gives her heart to Jesus. When an unexpected vixen tries to steal the man she unwittingly falls in love with, she sets out to find the truth. In doing so, she shows off her detective skills in a far greater manner than any prior sleuthing in all three books combined. This is truly a happily ever after story, and as little David said at the end, "Now, let's go have cake and lemonade." That would be Fairy Cakes, of course, Mr. Morris?
