I have used a Sonnet card reader before but wanted something faster that relied on the PciE interface instead of USB. When I saw this unit was released I jumped on it. A bit of background, I shoot a lot of pics in RAW on a pro DSLR and wanted something quick.

After placing my order I was a little skeptical on how well this would work. Once it arrived I placed it in the expresscard slot on my MBP and nothing happened :( After about 5-10 mins of troubleshooting and browsing I found there was a driver required (Expresscard controller driver from JMicron). I installed it, rebooted and was ready to roll.

I then inserted a 16GB UHS-1 SDHC card and started to transfer the images. I was amazed at the speed. I didn't even need to benchmark it as it was so much quicker.

If you use SD/SDHC cards along with an expresscard slot and want something fast then run don't walk and buy this adapter it really is that good. I see Amazon is out of it currently and hope they bring it back in as I highly recommend this.

This does not work on a Mac out of the box. You need to go to their website and install the drivers. Probably ditto PC but didn't try. The website is easily navigable and finding the drivers is straightforward. Post-install and reboot it worked just fine, very quick. Ejection mechanism for the SD cards could be better, but it's no biggie. If you are buying this, I'd guess that you need to move a lot of data, and this card will do that quickly.

Apple certified tech on a 2011 17" Macbook Pro, running 10.9.4.

Performance: 5 times slower than my 5 year old CF/FW800 reader (Using a Class 10 Sony SD card)

Ergonomics: HORRIBLE, you can't insert/remove an SD card without long fingernails or tweezers

Drivers: MASSIVELY UNSTABLE. If you so much as jostle the adapter, it will KERNEL PANIC your machine. I'm not talking about accidentally ejecting the ExpessCard, I mean just touching the edge trying to get your SD card out (which, as mentioned above is hard to do without tweezers or long fingernails.) To say nothing of oddly failing file transfers and other erratic behavior.

Save your money, don't touch this thing with a 10 foot pole.

I bought this unit to utilize the unused slot in my Lenovo laptop. it is really made for the mac but it fits almost flush in my Expresscard slot. With its ability to read high capacity SDs and Micro SDs, it makes a handy removable ad hoc SSD. Works great with the Portable Apps Suite though I don't boot off it.

This is a nice product, works quite well on my macbook pro (late 2008, running OSX 10.7). I got however the computer stuck a few times when inserting or removing the memory card.
