A Wonderful Book of Poetry!
This is one of my sister's favorite books of poetry. Elizabeth Barret Browning delivers fluent beautiful poems. The English Love poetry is very well done. The history behind the title is that her husband's nickname for her was "my little Portugese"... this was a book of love poems for her husband, therefore called, "Sonnets from the Portugese"... isn't that sweet. Well...

For Romantics Only
This sonnet sequence could be rather boring to the untrained eye. As an English major, I was able to appreciate Browning's strict following of the rules for sonnets (which are extremely hard to write well and forced me to give this book an extra star) and her diction. The history of the sonnet sequence is more interesting than the sonnets themselves. Yet there are quite a...

This is one of my sister's favorite books of poetry. Elizabeth Barret Browning delivers fluent beautiful poems. The English Love poetry is very well done. This sonnet sequence could be rather boring to the untrained eye. As an English major, I was able to appreciate Browning's strict following of the rules for sonnets (which are extremely hard to write well and forced me to give this book an extra star) and her diction. The history of the sonnet sequence is more interesting than the sonnets themselves. Yet there are quite a few poems that make you feel all gushy inside and make you want to go fall in love!
