WHY DID THEY CHANGE THE ORIGINAL?,
By
This review is from: Sonny & Cher / Good Times O.S.T. (Audio CD)
I never saw this film in the theater; I got to know the songs from the original LP soundtrack album. Unfortunately, something has happened between then and the release of this album on CD: a portion of the song "It's the Little Things" has been edited out. After the words "It's the little things that mean a lot; it's what you are, not what you've got," comes a bridge passage that is repeated three times with different lyrics:
"Call my name and I'll come runnin', Look at me and the clouds start sunnin'. Hold my hand and you've got me goin', Kiss my lips and my mind starts blowin'. "Talk to me and I hear singin', Walk with me and a bell starts ringin; I don't know what it is about you, but There ain't no way I could live without you. "We've got a thing and it won't stop cookin', You turn me on just by lookin' You can make me strong just by sighin' You break my heart, baby, just by cryin'." On the CD reissue, however, that bridge has been reduced by one-third, which spoils the musical symmetry of the piece. (For what it's worth, the same edit is made in the current DVD of the film; since I didn't see the original theatrical release, I don't know if had been made for the film at that stage or subsequently. But the fact remains, all of the music is on the original LP, so why isn't it here?) As I (and others) have pointed out in other reviews of Sonny and Cher albums, the company Sundazed made another indefensible decision to remix most of them down to monaural from the original stereo. If you're going to go into the nostalgia business by re-releasing classic albums, please have the decency to respect the original product, or don't bother. Keep your hands off my memories!

Good Times is fun, thoughSonny and Cher were better in stereo,

Though it was exciting to see this cd come out on One Way records, it was a disapointment it was in mono. The creativity of Sonny shines through with the eclectic songs for their only feature film."It's Just a Name", and "Don't Talk to Strangers" are a fitting tribute to the voice of the female half of this great team, and "Good Times" is a fun frolic in carnival-esque 60's pop. All in all this is a gem, though the reissue could have been more faithful to the original stereo Bono mixes. Sonny and Cher are great in true stereo!

GOOD TIMES AT THEIR BEST,
By
This review is from: Sonny & Cher / Good Times O.S.T. (Audio CD)
So it was no "A HARD DAY"S NIGHT".Still it was a fun soundtrack, sprinkled with pop tunes of the late 60's.From the intro of an insrumental version of"I GOT YOU BABE" to aslowed down of the same. All songs are great if you listen to the message in them.ITS THE LITTLE THINGS talks about not what you've got that counts, but who you are.The bridge of them excanging their pining for one another.GOOD TIMES is a fun catchy tune.TRUST ME almost seems prophetic consider how Sonny told Cher to trust him aaaaafter their careers went into the toilet.DONT TALK TO STRANGERS is brilliant,Cher at her best.Along with IM GONNA LOVE YOU,souns like the torch songs she would sing on the variety shows.ITS JUST A NAME talks about things thatbug them about each other, but besidesthat, they still love each other.Watch the film and you'll see a pre Sonny and Cher Comedy hour unfold.Music is enjoable and holds up today.

This was the soundtrack to the film starring Sonny & Cher for which Sonny composed the music. Out of eight songs, there were two versions of "I Got You Babe," and the B-side to Cher's hit single "All I Really Want To Do," titled "I'm Gonna Love You."
The opening track, "I Got You Babe," is mostly an instrumental track, very 60s-style. The vocals are not performed by Sonny & Cher, but by an anonymous girl group confection (or maybe it is just one female voice double- or triple-tracked). The arrangement is orchestral, and is reminiscent of a theme from some sophisticated television movie of the week. I haven't seen the "Good Times" film yet, but I hope that Sonny & Cher aren't seen until the song ends. I can imagine getting lulled into thinking that perhaps some mistake was made, and Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn will be stepping off the chateau's elevator. But instead, once the mythical elevator door opens, there stands...Salvatore Bono! Then I will relax, I'll be on solid ground again. By all means, buy this CD.

Okay, so Good Times was not an Oscar contender, but who cares? It was a fun, funny movie and is enjoyable to watch over and over again. Plus - it is family friendly. And so is the music. Spirited songs written by Sonny that you can't help but sing along with. Admit it - we all know the words by now. This is a must have for any Cher, or Sonny & Cher fan. And I know there are still a lot of you out there. Happy listening.

OK - Sonny was a wonderful human being and brilliant besides. Cher: What a treasure to the world of entertainment with a vocal style uniquely her own. However, even two great minds such as Sonny & Cher can have a dud. Granted - this is the early days of Sonny & Cher before the truly decent music began to emerge from their souls, but it still isn't anything to get excited about. Buy this only if you want it for historical purposes or if you are a Cher or Sonny & Cher completist. I have the original LP (for historical, collecting purposes) and, believe me, that is enough. A CD of this was really not necessary.
