5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent recording and performance, February 14, 2004

This review is from: Sons of Bach 1 (Audio CD)
Very well recorded music of W.F. Bach. Performance is outstanding as only German Baroque orchestras seem to do so well. An unusual and strange twist in what Freiburger Barockorchester did with the 3rd piece, "Concerto for Harpisichord in e Minor" (there are 4 not 5 compositions on this CD). They substituted a piano instead of the harpsichord, for which it was intended. At first, this combination sounds like a musical mismatch and a blunder in historical accuracy. But after a few hearings, the piano becomes emotionally involving, much more so than a harpisichord could ever hope to do. Nothing mentioned about this deviation in the notes, however. The recording is so good it sounds like an SACD. Highly recommended.
