their new album is even better,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sons of Liberty (Audio CD)
Their new album, Hell Bent 4 Victory, is even better and badder than this one. Their skill at playing and arranging has come a long way from SOL to HB4V. The same raw energy, andrelin, pub party wildness, only more focussed at a bit faster pace. For for working, working out, partying, marching to war, and sowing wild oats. I prefer these guys to Andrew W.K. by a long shot. The Pogues had a baby and it's called Amadan.

Traditional Irish at its best,

Amadan is an incredible blend of traditional irish music, with a more modern, punk sound. Their first albumn, Sons of Liberty, is fantastic from beginning to end, each song better than the next. It comes with my highest recommendation.

Stout Irish Music!,

I was introduced to Amadan by accident when they happened to be playing at the bar I chose for my 21st birthday bash. I fell in love with the music instantly and, several months later, I managed to purchase this CD. It spent a solid month in my CD player and somehow manages to get wedged in it every so often these days.
Like Celtic music? Like punk? Like rock? Heck, you don't even have to like any of these genres to love Amadan. They're one of those rare bands where it doesn't matter what your taste is, you can't help loving them. This CD is an excellent blend of traditional and original (that manages to sound traditional, but punkified) music that will always put a smile on your face. Buy this CD andraise a pint to this fabulous band and their first CD!

Amadan is a Sure Thing!,

Amadan is a sure thing - whether you are inspired by the original sounds of the instruments they have mastered, of whose name you can hardly pronounce.."digeridoo" you say?....or the way in which this band creates an energy that allows strangers to smile & bump shoulders (sorry mate!) as they bob up & down in a sea of musical comardery - its a beer sloshing, foot stomping, frolickling good time.

This is how Irish rock/punk music was meant to be made. We just had to wait a while for it to come out. This is the best CD ever. It doesn't even matter what you listen to to enjoy it. I used to be a fluent rap fan until I heard this and now I'm a fluent Amadan fan. This band is seriously good enough to make it to the next Woodstock or something like that. I have burned copy but I like it so much that I'm gonna buy the album. I highly recommend recommending this to other people too. My brothers girlfriend knows one of the members and that's how I found out, so I'm telling you. Buy this. Now. Now. Are you clicking buy...? If yes then gooood, if no, then do it. Seriously. Insanely awsome stout Irish music!!

Great Celtic rock!,
By Brian B. (Corvallis, OR) - See all my reviews

This is truly one of the best bands that I have been exposed to in a long time!! Their music is a great combination of original and traditional Celtic stuff. Imagine a guitar, a bass, various conga drums, a didgeridoo, a wild fiddle, pennywhistles, spoons, and a snare drum all wielded by guys who are having the time of their lives playing this music. these insturments are combined into a riot of fun and fast tunes that are a perfect compliment to hoisting a few pints of the 'ol black stuff. They pay tribute to great and classic tunes, but also give them an upbeat and "edgier" twist at times. The story of their musical influences (punk, Oi, ska, classical music, and funk--not to mention good old Celtic rock)is easy to hear in the arrangement of these songs! When Amadan performs live around Oregon, they draw crowds with their "lively" stage presence (wild antics, weird and wonderful cover tune medleys, audience participation, and lots of energy). I've seen them several times and have a had a great time at every show. Buy this album and learn about Stout Irish Music--you'll be glad you did!

Stout Irish Music, it is,
By Kevin (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sons of Liberty (Audio CD)
Amadan self titles their genre as Stout Irish Music, and their first CD lives up to that name. With one foot firmly in punk and the other firmly in Irish folk the band manages to blend the sounds into songs that are high tempo and high energy. In the tradition of the bards, each song weaves a melodic story, with themes of pirates, drinking, love, and war. With this masterful storytelling, comes some masterful playing, of some very unique instruments. Among which are the whistle, spoons, congas, banjo, fiddle, and the didgeridoo. Additionally the liner notes are some of the best I have seen. Sons of Liberty is worth adding to anyone's collection.
