If you aren't Mormon, it won't be quite as funny unless you know Mormons well.

Howdy, Mormons: If you can handle laughing at some of our culture's cheesier habits, you'll probably find this movie funny. If you're a California Mormon like myself, you'll love the ribbing of Utah Mormons :D My husband is from Idaho, though, and he still finds it hilarious. Totally funny, tongue-in-cheek movie. Not recommended for uptight, dogmatic types ;)

I guess, because we watched Sons of Provo right after watching The Singles 2nd Ward, so we felt like it wasn't "that" funny. It was kinda slow paced. So I suggest that it's best to watch these movies separately on different days, so that there wont be any expectations or have room for any comparisons.

They're both great in their very own way. We did enjoy all the song in the Sons of Provo though! And they're very creative.

If you do not know LDS culture you probably will not get this movie. It is hilarious if you are familiar with it! This is not a mockery of scripture, or the gospel, as someone said in a different review. Instead, it is getting a laugh at some aspects of the culture (especially Utah/YSA) through the lens of a mormon boy band, Everclean. I have the soundtrack and laugh every time I hear it. They are so serious about it, as boy bands are.

For an example:
A song called "Wait for Me". (If you know what this is referring to then you already get the humor.)
Imagine in a harmonized, typical dance boy-band song:
"With every fiber in my being I'll be true to thee, as I magnify our love as a missionary. I'll come back the bible scholar, baby wait and see. So put a blindfold on for two years honey, and wait for me."

"... just put your life on pause, we can press forward when I get back."

Either you find this remotely funny or not. If you do, watch this. if not, then don't.
This is worth renting, the soundtrack is worth owning.
