The Sons of Sepharad
Cantors Alberto Mizrahi, Aaron Bensoussan and singer/guitarist Gerard Edery embrace the rich musical trove of the Sephardim as a living legacy, plumbing its antique treasures as they contribute to its continuing evolution by composing new songs in the genre. The CD also features oud virtuoso, George Mgrdichian, who has been recorded on over 100 albums of Middle Eastern music.

...one of the most exciting new groups and stylists of Jewish music. (Canadian Jewish News)

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Sephardic music CD!, January 23, 2005
This review is from: The Sons of Sepharad (Audio CD)
This is an amazing recording, containing some of the most moving Jewish music I have ever heard. The music is spanish/middle eastern in style, with wonderful guitar work and strong rythm. The vocals are very strong, sung by three men, two tenors and a baritone. Songs are sung in Ladino (Spanish "Yiddish"), Hebrew, English, and other Mediterranean languages.

Notable tracks include Scalirica d'Oro, which starts slowly and builds in tempo and melody. Fel Sharah, with wonderful oud (guitar) work and a beat. L'Cha Dodi, a classic song welcoming the Sabbath, sung in Hebrew and English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sephardic Music, May 28, 2006
This review is from: The Sons of Sepharad (Audio CD)
I bought the CD after seeing the group live in concert. They were phenomenal in concert, and the CD is an excellent reflection of their live show.

Their version of L'Kha Dodi is one of the best I've ever heard. Perhaps not quite the beauty of Shlomo Carlebach's version, but with a combination of beauty, joy, and verve that is unsurpassed. Some of the selections are simply beautiful, while others have energy and vivacity.

For those who may be familiar with Klezmer, but have no knowledge of Sephardic music, this is a superb primer in that music style.
