A feast of popular Indian music classics, January 25, 2009

First, a disclaimer - I'm not a purist. I know Rafi is for many people the epitome of classic Indian popular film music singing. However, as a newer fan of Bollywood, and not having grown up with the filmi classics I keep hearing about, this music is new to me. And I just don't have a taste for the older movies so I'm not about to learn to love these songs by watching the original versions of them. Now, Sonu Nigam is my favorite film singer and I can listen happily to him singing just about anything (and if you check out his discography, you'll he has quite a range; I also recommend his "Classically Mild" album). I really like this collection because he's singing fine songs, with modern production values, and I can both listen to my favorite singer and hear some classic songs that are new to me. And with several disks, it's not just a treat, it's a feast of Nigam and of filmi music.
