Trust SONY!,

This review is from: Sony 256MB Memory Stick Pro Black MagicGate Compatible (Personal Computers)
I own the Cybershot P93, and I needed more storage capacity, so I bought the Sony Memo Stick "PRO" 256MB, I have to say its reliable, durable & fast in processing, storing & accessing...
And there ain't much difference in price from the unoriginals types like Lexar or Sandisk. The memory stick looks cool & its Made in Japan! Actual capacity it offers is 220MB as the rest 36MB are necessarily for system & data usage. Be sure your Sony camera supports the PRO type of Memory sticks, as the older models lack this feature. With the 256MB Capacity, I get: 3 hrs of low quality videos, 12 mins of normal quality and 3 mins of highest quality, which is more than enough. As for photos, using fine quality, with 1MP, i can store approximately upto 380 photos, with 3MP app. 150 photos & with 5 MP i can store app. upto 90 photos. It's great & with a reasonable price...

Memory Sticks have always been great technology from day one. The Pro models are no exception. They have fast transfer speeds and are very reliable.
Of course, that comes at a price. Compared to the other flash memory standards, Memory Sticks are expensive. Even the SanDisk "generic" Memory Sticks aren't that much cheaper than the genuine Sonys. The only other (well documented) drawback to the Pro models is the useless (for digicams) MagicGate feature that steals a fair amount of the total capacity of the card and can't be disabled. Sony really should remedy that for digicam users. Don't hold your breath though. 4 stars because of the price issue and the MagicGate annoyance.

Thinking a Memory Stick was a Memory Stick, I ordered this one for a Sony Cybershot camera that's several years old. Unfortunately, my camera simply won't recognize this stick. Make sure your equipment is compatible with Memory Stick "Pro" before ordering this particular card.
