Product Description

From the Manufacturer

PAYDAY The Heist is an action filled first person shooter game that lets players take on the role of a hardened career criminal executing intense, dynamic heists in constant pursuit of the next "big score". Navigate diverse urban settings with three partners in crime - controlled by either AI or your best buddies in co-op multiplayer. Load out with an array of weaponry and equipment as you embark on a spectacular crime spree through six high-stake heists, including banks robberies, prisoner extractions and armored car hijackings.

Time for a PAYDAY - Cash in Before you Cash Out!

  • Six High-Intensity Heists: Whether you're blowing the roof off a building to extract a safe via helicopter or emptying the vault at the First World Bank, these action-packed heists will have players on edge and always checking their six.
  • Interactive Co-op Gameplay: Whether AI or live, your crew of four must operate as one to get the "big score." Sharing extra ammo and med kits, helping regen wounded partners, guarding key positions, taking civilian hostages or cracking through various security measures - it's all for one and one for all.
  • Endless Replayability: Dynamic environments, adaptive enemy behavior, shifting entry points, FBI agents repelling down on ropes through the skylights, SWAT teams crashing through the windows and special units crawling through the ventilation shafts makes each play-through of every heist a unique fight.
  • Massive Character Progression Tree: Players choose a specialty - assault, sharpshooter or support - to gain weapons and equipment that fit their preferred form of violence. Unlock trip mines, silenced pistols, machine guns and much, much more.
  • More DLC: Additional heists, weapons and equipment means PAYDAY - a digitally distributed AAA quality title for less than half the price of a retail game - is total OVERKILL.

'Payday' is a FPS computer game from Sony Online Entertainment. This was a 'Steam' download and was priced at less that $20.00. This can be played either as a single player or on-line as 4 player co-op. (with friends or random players)

The Game:
You are one of four bank robbers. You are given instructions by your boss who is in contact with you with an earpiece. The jobs are straight forward...get in, get the loot and get out. Except that things never, ever go as planned, and this is what makes this game so good.

The Pros:
1.) tense, gripping, non-stop action. Hard to explain just how visceral this game is.

2.) enemies (the cops) are randomly inserted for each game...so every game is different (although the maps are the same). Same as L4D2.

3a.) experience factor...as you continue to play you gain experience...allowing you better weapons, larger ammo clips, armor, etc. Also your skills as a shooter noticeably improves with experience. But don't be fooled by these apparent RPG-like upgrades...this game is primarily a FPS.

3b.) experience factor...players (in co-op) can easily play together (to a limited degree) even though they may have significant differences in experience levels. Higher level players will have better weapons and access to some advanced items Playing on easy, normal, hard or overkill seems to change the cops' toughness, how often and how many of them will appear on any given map.

4.) mid game joining is now possible since the latest patch...a major improvement.

5.) diamond heist and slaughter house maps now playable on normal, hard and overkill (were previously only playable on hard and overkill).

6) a pulsating, staccato theme played in the background.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value February 23, 2012
It's not realism, but it gives you the visceral rush feel of being in every "heist-gone-wrong" movie. Every match is 15 minutes of pure adrenaline. Drop in. Nick some loot. Blast some cops. GTFO.

It's like the bank robbery clips from movies you watch on youtube, with all the "one-more-job" dialogue and girlfriend-with-a-heart-of-gold angst cut out.

I bought it on release for $20. I've gotten far more entertainment out of it than many $50-$60 games.

At $5, it's a steal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Payday - A Simple Amoral Shooter that's a BLAST! October 24, 2011
By Prez
Do you like the "Left 4 Dead" games? Did you like the movie "Heat" with De Niro, Pacino, Sizemore, and Kilmer? Then you will like "Payday-The Heist". The game dispenses with any complex mechanics and focuses on immersing in you in movie heist-inspired scenarios and thrusting you in chaotic, intense shooting action. Those who feel squirmy about shooting police better stay away, as you'll rack up huge body counts of them in "Payday", but otherwise this game is a joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fun, very replayable... February 23, 2012
- game elements (objectives, npc locations, enemy spawns) change from game to game, making each game feel relatively unique

- one to four player co-op against extremely crafty AI

- extremely replayable, dedicated players often have hundreds of hours logged

- brilliant adrenaline pumping soundtrack

- good variety of weapons and tools augmented by a leveling system

- unique rubberband netcode makes game run smoothly regardless of players' distance from each other

- sense of teamwork and accomplishment from really thrashing a heist is amazing

- the higher difficulties are quite hard, very easy to fail on if a team doesn't work together well

- the developers constantly work to improve the game and tend to be very vocal within the game's community

- there's an upcoming DLC pack that will expand the game content significantly

- it's super cheap, even without a sale going on

I cannot recommend this game enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate criminal FPS adrenaline rush February 28, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Published in 2011 by Sony Online Entertainment and Developed by Overkill Software (founded by ex-members of the now defunct Grin Studios), Payday: The Heist is a cooperative first-person-shooter in which you play as one member of a four person professional criminal heist group. Objectives vary from robbing banks, stealing money from drug-lords, busting convicts out of a prison convoy, stealing diamonds from a high-rise security vault, high jacking a gold-filled armored convoy and stealing back currency printing plates from a traitorous accomplice. To accomplish these goals the players arm themselves with a variety of firearms and equipment which increases as you successfully pull of heists. During the jobs you'll encounter multiple levels of law enforcement from security guards to blue uniforms to various heavily armored S.W.A.T. and even spec ops "Sam Fisher" lookalikes. You'll also be responsible for subduing and controlling multiple amounts of civilians found amongst the heists. Combine all of these factors with the main plan of get in, get the loot and get out and you're in for one h*ll of a ride. Here are my thoughts on the incredibly unique and engaging masterpiece that is Payday: The Heist;

Pros

+ Random enemy generation creating a unique play experience every time.

+ Gritty, thrilling and frantic non-stop action that's the perfect emulation of any of your favorite heist movie scenes (Heat, The Town, Dark Knight etc.)

+ Steep but extremely challenging and rewarding learning curve that requires perfected teamwork. The sense of accomplishment after finishing a particularly tough heist is incredibly satisfying.

+ 3 very noticeable levels of difficulty. Normal, Hard and Overkill.

Thanks for the info, I get so annoyed when the code doesn't activate on Steam. I was going to buy an extra code for a friend too.

Yes there is. You do not have to activate this through steam. And if you do, just simply play single player mode.

Coming to Disk?
What? No. Why would it ever go to physical format? This game was released as a PSN game for download only, and then it was ported to PC as, yet again, a digital copy only.

Why on earth would they spend money to shove this game onto physical media? Especially for a $20 (or currently $7.50) game?
