I used this cable to wokr it on my DVD Cam 201 which I brought it in back 2003. The cable looks expensive to me but works perfect.

I purchased this AC adaptor for my Sony video camcorder after my original adaptor died. The original adaptor lasted five years with minimal use. It was only plugged in when the battery required charging. We never left it plugged in for more than an occasional overnight charge. I estimate that we charged the camera less than three dozen times since it was new - compare this to your typical laptop adaptor usage.

I conducted an extensive search for a replacement AC adaptor after discovering that most vendors wanted more than $50 for this thing. As an electrical engineer who knows what's inside these things (a DC/DC converter, a few discrete components and perhaps an inexpensive logic device or two - none of these are expensive components) I was shocked to discover such high prices for such a commonplace, modern-day accessory. My first (cynical) thought was that Sony wanted to subsidize the price it charges for video camcorders through the sale of these replacement adaptors - this may very well be the case.

I was very pleased to find that Amazon offered a discount off the typical 'retail' price I found elsewhere - too bad it wasn't closer to $20 though. When I received the unit I was pleased to discover that the size and weight of this replacement AC adaptor was significantly reduced from the original unit.

PROs: Small, light-weight, less costly through Amazon

CONs: Pricey for a prolific device in today's electronic age. (Hope this one lasts longer than the original.)

Positives:
Has 100 -240 voltage so works anywhere in the world.
smaller form that then one that came with the camera originally

Negatives:
Can only charge the battery with the camera. No battery slot on the charger itself. So you would not be able to use the camera with a backup battery while one is charging.

I got this one to replace the original charger for DCR-PC9 camcorder that i have lost, it is working great and its lighter than the one that came with my camcorder.

If you don't have a power cable for your Sony camcorder, this is a must have purchase.

This item works pretty fine and i'm able to get my work done. many thanks to Amazon for the quality of products they have at a very low price.
