I absolutely love this thing... One of the main drawbacks of action cams is the lack of a screen to frame up your shots.. This makes that a non issue... basically turning your action cam into a camcorder. It works great, and its very lightweight.. The lcd screen flips 180 degrees and mirrors the image so it can be viewed from either side of the camera, and there is a threaded insert for a tripod..

My only complaint is that there is no audio input on it. The action cam has usb, Hdmi, and audio inputs on the bottom of the cam, making them totally inaccessible if the cam is in a case. It would have been a thousand times cooler if the cradle had these inputs aswell.. But alas it does not. Also, its not water/dustproof and the lens is very much exposed to the elements, so you must be a little more careful when it comes to having it outdoors.

Overall, its pretty cool. I'm having fun with it...

So the Good things about it:
-Its nice to hold, gives it extra bulk..which is good on occasion
-its Nice to see what your recording
-Its nice to play back what you recorded
-It has a spot for a camera strap

Whats not so good:
-The record start/stop button is not the best. Im not sure if its better for the older version, but for the new version..it takes several presses to actually start and stop recordings/take pictures.
-You have to open both charging and media slots and try to tuck them into the side of the case when fitting the camera to the mount
-No lens protector

What to do...

You need to open the two access doors at bottom of cam, making sure they tuck into the case while gently sliding the cam in while aligning to the HDMI port. When aligned, press downward gently until it seats. You can do this easily while avoiding the lens (not touching it). Then close the lid. It's an engineered fit, no doubt... snug. But you wouldn't want it loose & rattling.

I just had this delivered yesterday, had it going within a few minutes. The buttons on the case do work/function, just a little stiff on the record-stop button. Just press a little firmly.

The camera is so small, the case adds very little to it's size... it also seems a little slippery, grainy yet smooth. This along with it's size made me consider a screw on handle to the bottom side of the case. I am not after bulk, trust me... but I do like convenience. I ordered the Barska Accu Grip to go along with it. I don't have it yet, but will report back when I do and the combined functionality.

OK Update: The Barska Accu Grip came today, as I tried to attach it to the cam's housing, the screw bottomed out but the cam was still not snug against the grip. The screw is too long. This can be resolved by filing the screw down, I may down the road... OR as I did, I found some rubber washers and stacked a couple beneath (1" Dia O.D. ,1/4" I.D.) and works perfectly. I do like the feel of the grip. I can hold the camera much more firmly, and control the Record button with my thumb very easily.

The setup feels a little forward heavy because of the location of the 1/4-20 tripod hole being rearward on the cam housing.. but to me, this set up is a keeper. Opposed to holding this slick feeling housing awkwardly, the handle adds much benefit! I am posting some pic's, not the best, cell ph pic's to give you an idea of the way it all looks together.

When you done with your capturing, but still far away from your desktop and really need to see what footage did you just get - this cradle is what you need. Or you can use it as a little handheld "old-fashion" really small video camera too. I am glad I got it.

I bought this as an add- on for myHDR-AS10. I will primarily use the camcorder mounted to my 2009 Yamaha Raider. After the ride, it will be nice to review some of the trip highlights as well to record different events and take photos without using my phone all the time for that purpose. Overall, I think the cradle is a great add on but it could use a few minor adjustments that would make the rating a five. First, it should have HDMI output connection on the underside of the device. There are a lot of brilliant people that work at Sony and there is no way this should have been missed. Secondly, it should have been designed with an auto pause so the device does not start recording the minute you turn it on. Still a great device.

The screen is crisp and clear, shows exactly what I am recording with no delay.
However thats pretty much the ONLY thing that it lets you do, aside from play recordings back so you can view them on the spot.
There is no fast forward or rewind and there arent any other features. But its very useful to see what you recorded immediately after so that you can check to see if you got what you wanted on camera. That is really all i wanted it for anyway so the product is perfect for me

I own the as15 but before I purchased the camera I saw this lcd cradle attachment and I figured how great it is that you Can turn your action cam into a camcorder. This fits perfectly into the camera and no one can tell that it's an action cam. The screen is very clear and it's not cheap. It feels very sturdy. You will not regret buying this for your cam.

Easy to use for Sony actioncam! All instructions said it would not work for the HDRAS100V/W but it DID!! "Trick" is to open both compartments on bottom and slide into connector. The little "doors" stay open and set inside that channel. GREAT price for clear handheld that's sturdy with vibration management.

A very handy addition to my Action Cam accessories, allows me to review what was recorded and also double as a more precise camcorder where I can see what I film.

Dislike: when the Action Cam is in the casing, the front of the lens is exposed, a minor hazard waiting to happen I think. Deduct 1 star for this.

This thing is perfect for two things:

1. Use as a handheld camcorder, as it shows a live display while the camera is installed and in MOVIE mode. This cradle also has a standard threaded camera mount in the bottom, so it works with a tripod or other mounts as well.

2. Use to playback footage. It isn't the greatest playback device, cycling through videos is a bit of a pain as you have to go one by one, and there is no metadata displayed on the screen so you can tell which video you are reviewing, but the display quality is great and if you can live with limited controls, it does the job. No functions aside from playback, pause, fast forward/rewind, and previous/next (as far as I can tell).

As far as impact on battery life, it doesn't seem all that bad. I've easily watched an hour of playback footage without depleting a battery charge.

Worth the $$.
