This is a great gadget. I am running windows vista on my desktop and have a sony receiver and this thing works great. Last year I was in my attic running speaker wire from my receiver (indoors) to my outdoor speakers. I was dreading getting back in the attic to run an RCA cable from my computer to my receiver. So my search started. I found this item and boy did it save me a lot of time. I received it yesterday and it took me about 10 min to get this thing up and running. I set mine up by the quick start directions that sony provides. You do not have to load the software sony gives you. I use iTunes with it and it workds great. I can sit on my patio and control my iTunes via my iPhone and relax. O yeah you can also control your volume via your iPhone. I will say that all these products are in close proximity so its hard for me to speak for someone that is trying to run this through out a 2 story house. But for what I need it to do it works flawlessly! The sound quality is very good too in my oppinion.

Sound Perfect!
I received my today and it works exactly the way I need!

I have a Sony BDV-IS1000 5.1 Blu-Ray receiver with S-Air Surrounding speakers.
In the beginning, I used a Sony TDM-NC1 Digital Media Wireless Audio Adapter (only works with Sony receiver with DM port) to connect my laptop to the receiver. I believe TDM-NC1 is in a very early stage of Sony wireless adapter development. It works but it requires re-pairing it to the laptop every time power it on or power the laptop on. And it drop connection from time to time. Also I can't make it streams the sound from IE. That means not sound from youtube, internet radio and all the new and fun things.

Second solution: I used a Sony TDM-BT1 Digital Media Port Bluetooth Adapter (only works with Sony receiver with DM port). It is better because it works like a "wireless speaker output" and can transmit any sound from my laptop to the receiver. So it works with IE, youtube and anything. But, still, I have to re-pairing it every time power it on or power the laptop on. Plus, it is super sensitive to any movement around my laptop. The music often drop when I am moving stuff around or one of the software running heavily...

Now, Sony finally gets it right. ALT-A33PC Wireless Audio Transmitter/Receiver (works with any receiver with RCA input) works right out of the box. I am listening to Internet radio now and no matter how I position the transmitter or even shaking it, the music is still playing with no hiccup!
Sound quality is virtually no different from running an audio jack wire to the receiver directly.
Of course, it supports only "analog stereo". But you don't have 5.1 quality on youtube or internet radio anyway.

I am totally happy with ALT-A33PC!

Ellis

I was very skeptical and prepared the worst case returning it, losing both time and return shipping. But right out of the box, it works with my mac (snow leopard) within 10 mins of setup!

sound is very solid. not interference or static whatsoever. I've been disappointed with Sony many times but not this gadget!

I installed the ALTUS ALT-A33PC on my Lenovo laptop (Windows 7) and home stereo in 5 minutes. I didn't use the included software or remote. I simply wanted a way to play my mp3 collection through my home stereo wirelessly using Windows Mediaplayer. The ALTUS does that simply, with beautiful clear sound and there is no interference with my wireless router. 5 stars!

I've been waiting for a product like this ever since Soundblaster abandoned their wireless music server product. If you a) have a wireless network, b) leave your computer on all the time, c) have an MP3 collection, and d) have an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch - then this product is an absolute must. For a measley $40 per room I can now use my iPad to control iTunes (using the free Apple "Remote" app) to play music anywhere in the house. Until now, Sonos was truly the only offering that gave you this type of wireless music server system, but it was very, very expensive. Let me be clear, I know about Squeezebox, Roku, and others but the real difference is the remote control. There was always a remote with no screen, or required a TV, etc. But now (again, assuming you already have an iPad, iPhone, or touch) you can have a Sonos type of system for a tiny fraction of the cost of Sonos. Even a small fraction of the cost of Airport Express. Just got mine last night, had it up and running flawlessly in a couple of minutes in my bedroom. Ordering another for the living room today. Awesome.

This little guy is AWESOME. I've been using it to send audio to my stereo from my laptop for about 3 months now.

Range is better than my wireless router. I have an old 2 story brick house thats been renovated. What this means, is that I have 8 inch thick brick walls that have a stud wall on either side. So my walls are at least 12" thick. 8" of that is brick.

I have the reciever sitting next to one of these walls on the first floor. We get great reception everywhere in the house. We've tested this by walking the laptop from room to room. Reception never falls off. The house is kind of long too. So We're getting reception through 2 of these brick walls, and 2 stories at a distance of about 40'. When I recieved the product it said it has different channels in case you are conflicting with your neighbors system(if your neighbor happened to have one). I thought that seemed a bit excessive, but now that I've tested the range, it seems pretty plausible.

This is an amazing product for the price. Easy to setup too. Just plug the transmitter into your computer, pop in the installation disk if it doesn't recognize the transmitter. Plug the reciever into the stereo. No batteries required. The only issue I had is that it comes with 2 RCA jacks and no adapter. I had to order an adapter so that I could plug it into the audio-in port on my stereo

We use it to stream Pandora from out laptop to our stereo.
