There are remotes that work the speakers and the sound quality is very good.

I sent it back in April 2010 and at the new year the issue is still unresolved after about a dozen phone calls.

She says the speakers are super crisp, and clear, no matter how loud she sets them.

I was looking for something that would allow me to listen to music in the upstairs bedrooms and the garage. I didn't want to run speaker wire throughout the house, so I gave this system a try.

I thought the documentation could have been better, but the set-up was easy. "Pairing" was accomplished in seconds. With the transmitter in the family room, which is located in the lower level of the house, I tested the speakers in every room and also in our attached garage. I turned on the microwave, used the cell phone, wi-fi was active, and there were no interference problems.

The sound quality is way better than anticipated. One unexpected plus is that each speaker has the option of playing either an FM station or audio from an IPod. FM radio can be playing in the bedroom while music from my IPod is blasting in the garage.

The only complaint is the electrical power cable on the speakers and the transmitter should have been removable from the component. Because the cables are permanently wired to the device on one end and to the transformer on the other, it is difficult to find a location where the cable can be hidden. If the cable was removable (plug-in type), then the cable could be run behind a shelf and then plugged into the device.

This system is exactly what I was looking for and I am very pleased with it.

I bought this for my mother, who is not tech savy at all. She just moved into a new apartment, and all she had was a cheap little ipod speaker.
She needed sound for the whole apartment, but we didn't want to have to run wires all over the place. I gave it to her while she was visiting, she brought it home, opened it up, and within minutes was listening to music all over her apartment. She said it was basically ready to go right out of the box. I for sure thought that I was going to get a call, begging for my help to get it to work, but she said the directions were very straight forward, and easy to follow. She now calls me at least once a week, thanking me for the speaker system. She says the speakers are super crisp, and clear, no matter how loud she sets them.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to purchase.

This is a great product, I have checked it out for a while at my local electronics store where I work, Even with employee purchase programs the price was not as good as on Amazon> THe whole house has wireless music. I loved it so much that I had to get the socket speakers and the Computer transmitter. I will most likely add the sub and dock too when I see a good deal. Everyone is in awe of the wireless speakers and the sound is great.

Bought this system at Tuesday Morning for $149. The speakers do need to be plugged in, but that's not an issue in my house. There are remotes that work the speakers and the sound quality is very good. I would rather be able to plug speakers in around the room then have speaker wires dangling. My son played Christmas music all day on Christmas day. One of the speakers needed to "rest" overnight before working again. Guess we over did it on Christmas. Other than that, he loves it!

First the good news; the sound is awesome! Very good. And the units have the ability to listen to radio on one until while being in a totally different location with another unit listening to the iPhone (iPod or other plugged in device). The setup was fairly straight forward and easy to figure out too, so definitely not something to fear there. But where the Sony Altus wireless system fails for me is ultimately why I bought the system - to use with my iPhone (not iPod or other device, but specifically my iPhone). I make this a point, because maybe this is my issue and maybe the issue is unique to the iPhone. I run an iPhone 4 and have the same issue with the "old" iOS and the newly upgraded iOS 5. I've tried other people's iPhone in this unit and they all have the same issue; the wireless network on the phone shuts down shortly after you plug the phone into the base station. To be clear, there is a work around, which is to turn off the wifi on the phone before you dock the phone, but come on, that completely defeats the purpose. Clearly there's some kind of interference with this unit and the wifi in the iPhone. As some forums suggest, I tried each selectable wireless frequency option on the back of the base station and the wireless units, but still the problem came back. For now, I have to live with turning off the wifi until there is a solution to this problem.

Another interesting feature is the ability to hook audio AND video from the base station to a television. I have taken advantage of this very unique feature, by putting a small flat screen in the kitchen where my base station sits. I (again, after turning off wifi) pull up YouTube, Netflix, etc and BAM, I have an instant web TV. Very cool.

My wife and I found this set on sale not too long ago and took it home. I have to say I am quite surprised with the sound quality and its functionality. We placed the 2 speakers in the living-room, they sound great. The speakers volume is not too powerful, yet they work just fine in small rooms. I have tried the speakers in different areas and rooms and the signal is steady, I'm going back to the store to get 2 more speakers for the rest of the house.

One thing I've noticed is some signal "hick-ups" whenever you have a wireless device near by the receiver, so placing it in away from any of these devices should be more than enough to avoid any signal interference. I love this set, I put it to play our play-lists from our Ipods, my favorite radio stations and even hooked-it up to our TV set a couple of times, and to our computer as well, it sounds good.

Some specifications from the manual:

"Speaker section":
Speaker system: Full range, bass-reflex type
Speaker units: 57 mm (2 1/4 in), cone type (2)
Nominal impedance: 8 ohms

"General":
Power requirements: 120 V AC, 60 Hz
Input: Audio In jack ( 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack)
Dimensions (w/h/d): Approx. 250 x 123 x 129 mm (9 7/8 x 4 7/8 x 5 1/8 in.)
Mass: approx. 1.4 kg (3 lb 1.8 oz)

"Amplifier Section"

Audio Power Specifications power output and total harmonic distortion:

With 8 ohms loads, both channels driven, from 100 - 15,000 Hz; rated 6 watts per channel minimum RMS power, with no more than 10% total harmonic distortion.

As you can see, these are not "powerful" speakers, if you are looking for a powerful sound system, this is not it. This is a good and versatile unit.

Browse around and check prices, the price for this set has been going down since last year.

Good luck!
