Though not included with the actual Reader, this charger is extremely useful for a) quick charging, b) recovering from complete battery death and c) charging in situations where there is no computer available.

I bought this charger after noticing that the reader would not charge through a wall plug to USB converter (like the iPhone/iPod and other gadgets use). This seems to be a design flaw of the Reader but not one of the charger. I have been pleased with the performance of the charger and have found that in some cases where I have let the battery die completely in the reader, normal computer USB supply is not enough (or perhaps I wasn't patient enough) to reanimate the device. However, immediately on plugging in the reader charger, the reader rebooted and was charged quite quickly.

I recommend the charger highly but am disappointed that it's an attempt at nickel and diming for accessories by Sony.

I pre-ordered my Sony 600 and a charger - I received THIS charger immediately from Sony, and have now used it on my 600. So, until they update the information - you should know that this is the correct charger for the 600 as well as the 505.

I love having it because I can read and charge at the same time, and I can slip it into my suitcase when I'm traveling without my laptop. I currently keep it plugged in next to my bed, and when I'm done reading at night I plug in my reader. It's freshly charged and ready-to-go when I grab my reader in the morning.

I use a similar strategy for my Ipod and cell phone - it keeps me from worrying about what has been charged, because all of them are fresh each day.

I have only had my reader for about a month and I have only used this charger once. I believe a charger should be purchased for any handheld item such as MP3 players, cell phones and such. Having this charger makes charging the batter (which rarely gets low in power) quicker and easier than plugging it into the computer.

This product is a must have if you are on the go and do not have access to a computer. I love the fact that I can charge my PRS505 and read at the same time (something you can't do with the USB). Is it pricey? Yes. Should it have been included with the reader? Yes. With that said I still think it's a good product and well worth my 4-star rating.

I love my Sony Touch Reader and this charger keeps it conveniently charged and ready for reading or allows me to charge while reading. The cable that comes with the Reader can only be used via a computer which is not always handy. Diane
PS: Another tip: Larger public libraries have ebooks which are compatible with my Sony Touch Reader. I find browsing my local library website and downloading ebooks is very easy and I am able to keep the books in my Reader Library for up to 21 days at no charge.

Although the reader can be charged by the computer when plugged into the USB port, the charger works a whole lot better and faster. Well worth the price.

Great item. Fast recharge. I ordered another brand but when I got it I was going to have to order another attachment to fit on my 505. I just ordered the Sony one instead and am very satisfied.

it does what it has to. Later I found you could get it cheaper by using a knock off brand, but those might last less time so happy I spent a little more. This works for the PRS 300 even though it's not labelled as such

Also good for the PRS700 model.You can use the Reader while charging with this unit, unlike the USB charger.The unit is Sony's usual good quality at a good price.

I give this a 5 star because, in terms of quality, it's great. However, I find it absolutely unnecessary. The Sony Reader charges so fast from a computer that the gain you have from charging it with this thing is negligible. There are uses, however. Traveling for example on long flights, you might want to change your reader faster while on the airport and might not have 3-4 hours to do it via your laptop. Or you might not have taken your laptop with you (who travels without a netbook now a days?). In any case, if that's you, then this thing will save you from having to watch that idiotic movie for the nth time again.

That being said, I've had a reader now for 3 months and I'm yet to use the changer. I find the USB cable included with my reader to suffice. OK, I was annoyed that Sony was charging me additionally for the charger, and thought it was a way for them to make yet another bundle of my back... but now I wish I had returned the charger.

conclusion: great product, not very useful. Something to have with you just in case tho.
