I had my concerns with this player but I found it at a great price and couldn't pass it up. And I am more than satisfied. I don't care about wifi and I won't be getting into 3D for another year or so. All I wanted was a blu ray player that delivered great picture and sound.

The setup was a breeze. I plugged it in, connected it to my Onkyo receiver with HDMI cable. Connected an ethernet cable. Downloaded the newest update. Setup Hulu Plus app and played with the settings and I was done. Took maybe a total of 15 minutes.

So if you are looking for a great player and 3D, wifi, is not a concern then you cannot go wrong with this bad boy. Also comes with apps like Hulu Plus, Netflix, Youtube, internet radio. There's even a Michael Jackson app, with all his videos. Only glanced at that one but looks cool. There's a few other apps too. Hope some found this review helpful, it was my first.

This is the best value based Blu Ray player out there. As long as you are not in need of built in wi-fi and DLNA support -this one cannot be beat. Excellent PQ and SQ. Loaded with internet apps like Pandora, Netflix, Amazon on Demand, and a host of Sony media. Quick loading and BD operation. A keeper.

We've owned this blu ray player for about a month now, and I love almost everything about it! First off, the one thing I DON'T like. The power cord is permanently attached to the back of the machine. That wouldn't be a bad thing, except that the plug won't fit through our "keep all the wires neat" holes we have in our entertainment center. But that's the only reason for that dislike.

Now onto the things I like the most! The tray LOCKS!! for any family with young, curious kids, this is a definite MUST! I will say that this isn't special to this particular model alone. All of the Sony Blu Ray players that I researched have this feature. And we discovered (quite by accident) that the tray stays locked, even after you've powered down, and back on, the player! One of our kids broke the last player by putting in more than 1 disc at a time, so this is invaluable!!

Two, I love the streaming features! No more using the lower quality Wii Netflix disc, this player can stream it! Granted, you only see your instant queue, but we just beefed our list. It also has Hulu Plus (which I don't care for, not many shows I'd want to watch), Crackle (which I LOVE! free shows and movies, although the tv selection is lacking), Pandora and more!

The quality of the blu ray discs is still amazing. All around, a great player. And everyone's favorite Low Price Leader had this for considerably less than shown here. While this isn't really wifi ready, we just used an ethernet cable to connect to the internet, so that was no biggy for us. So if you're looking for something kid-proof, affordable, yet still performs wonderfully, I don't think you can go wrong with this player! Oh! And the load time is MUCH MUCH faster than the older model Sony blu ray we had. with impatient little kids, that's important too! (for the sanity of the parents!)

I purchased this player in February of 2011 for the streaming features and the blu-ray. It was to replace a home theater PC that used a lot of electricity. After a few months, it seemed that the Netflix streaming would lock up (buffering) while Hulu plus and other streaming channels would function without issue. I assumed the issue to be my home network's DNS settings so I tried to reconfigure the network. I even purchased a new router. That did not resolve my issue either. I later changed my ISP as well. Just for better service over all, and still no resolve with the Netflix streaming.

A search of Google confirmed that the player simply suffers from poor quality in the Netflix area. I have updated the firmware once or twice since owning the device. Still nothing. At this point I would not recommend it to anyone who wants to watch Netflix. I would recommend using a gaming console or other device.

As far as Blu-ray, this player is excellent!

I received a Magnavox blue ray player from my son this past Christmas. I waited a few weeks to hook it up. After running all the connections and being ready to pop a disc in, the drawer would not open. Needless to say, it was boxed up for it's return to Walmart. My son bought it for a good price after receiving a $40 gift card from Walmart. It was $118 less the $40 so $78. I intended to get the same player but the clerk said it would be easier to just refund the price either to the CC used or a gift card. I chose the gift card so had $120 plus to spend.
I immediately found stacks of the Magnavox players but happened to spot this Sony S270 and it was priced at $94 and was able to acquire Netflix, Pandora etc which the Magnavox couldn't do. I decided on the Sony and applied the difference toward a Vizio sound bar I had been wanting. It was very easy to set up and the picture is amazing on our Toshiba 1080 TV. Today, I decided to try out the wireless features. I have a Trendnet wireless gaming adapter I had hooked up to my Direct HD /DVR receiver for apps etc but after getting an Apple TV device, I very seldom used it. I decided to try it in the LAN on the player even though the directions stated to use the USB connection. Guess what? It works perfectly!! It's very easy to set your player to use the many applications available. Today., I've watched a Netflix movie, looked at some YOUtube videos and am listening to Pandora as I am writing this review.
I purchased this unit on 1/23/2011 at Walmart. If you are wanting a great player at an amazing price, check now before they are either gone or the price increases!
