Sony BDV-T11 Home Theater System

I wanted to write a review as I could not find one when evaluating systems on-line. I bought this one blindly and have been extremely pleased with the purchase.

Items to note:
1. Huge sound on BlueRay's and DVD's.
2. Picture quality is top draw on my 1080 screen. The up-converter does an excellent job on DVD's to an almost Blue-Ray quality.
3. The small speakers kick out a lot of sound. The radio portion is still weaker then I would like. But this is a home theater. I have a sound system for my tunes!
4. It was easy to set up. Following the cables colors it was put together in 10-15 minutes.
5. The book is lengthy so do your self a favor and download the PDF. You can search for keywords to your specific question and tackle any question in seconds.
6. The optic cable offers great sound reproduction from my Plasma TV. I thought I wouldn't use it because of the great sound I had from my TV. But now I find I use it all the time.
7. You can't beat the price!
I think that these were promotional items for selling with Big Screens during Christmas with bundled packages. My guess is that it is the exact same electronics portion as the BVD-300 and the T10 as they share the same manual. That is what I used for my initial analysis.

I purchased this system on clearance at Walmart. I had my eye on it for a long time but being as it was over $500 I never made the purchase. Finally I was there one day and they had the display model on sale for $300. I just had to have it. I currently had a Sony Bravia dvd surround system at home that was a 1000 watts. I really didn't want to downgrade from that,so what I did was hook up my speakers and subwoofer from that system to this one. Since they are both Sony the color coded speakers were the same.So now my system puts out 1000 watts instead of 800. What an incredible system though. The Blu Rays are gorgeous!! Crystal clear,colorful..just a sight to see. It really upconverts the dvds so well that lots of people think that they are Blus. Not all dvds..as we know some have better picture quality than others. I just want to say that it is worth tinkering with your tv settings and the settings for the Blu ray player. I made sure that it was putting out the highest picture setting and I did the speaker colabration also. I found that putting the calibrater further than your seating area works the best as it will push the sound beyond you instead of it ending at the spot you mainly sit. I adjust my individual speaker output too. It really puts out a lot of sound! Whereas before with dvds I always had to turn up the volume or put on the subtitles, with blu rays I never have that problem!! I can't believe I put off going Blu for so long. I do not have an Ipod but this does come with an Ipod deck. I listen to my cds on it though and they sound awesome. I just want to make a comment about speaker arrangement. I didn't want to shell out extra cash for the s-air to make the rear speakers wireless and I did not want wires all over my living room. What I did was configure the speakers all at the front of the room. I have a huge entertainment cabinet,so I have them all on it and the wires are completely covered. You would think this would compromise the sound but it does not. Because you set it up with the speakers in the front and calibrate them,the system measures where they are and how much sound they need to put out so that they fill your room with surround.Even though the speakers are at the front of the room,while you are watching a movie you can hear sound as if it is behind you. It is kind of eerie at first but you get used to it. I was really surprised because I had figured it would all come from the front and that it was going to be a sacrifice I was going to have to make. There are only two negatives I have found for this. One-it does not stream Netflix. If you want something for that,there is another model that comes at a 1000 watts and streams. Also,for some reason this systems relationship with its remote is weak. I have glass covered cabinet doors and cannot operate this system when the door is closed. I actually have to open the door to be able to operate the system with it. Also, the remote won't work for me if I am not right in front of the system,in my theatre chairs. They are about 8-10ft away and I can work the system fine. If I am on my couch,which is just 3 ft to the left of my chair,I cannot operate the system at all. I have to get up and stand in front of my chair to work it. The only reason this doesn't bother me too much is because I have a Bravia tv. Well if this was operable at all times it would come on everytime my tv did and I don't have my tv set to put out its sound through the speakers unless I am watching a movie. Great system overall and really worth the money!!

I am happy with this BDV-T11 home theater system from Sony. I bought it to replace an old Sony stereo component system. This system is very much like the BDV-E500W so you should read reviews there as well. The two systems are virtually identical with a key difference being that system has a higher power output at 1000W total whereas this system is rated at 800W total. That system has floor-style front speakers whereas this has tabletop speakers but the insides are exactly the same - it's just a style difference. You can check specs at Sony's website. I bought this one because the price was significantly cheaper at the time. It fills my 13x14 living room just fine. The sound is very good from both movies and music. The iPod interface is wonderful, replacing a 50-disc CD changer on my old system. I can watch podcast videos from my iPod Touch (through a composite cable only - it does not output iPod video though HDMI or component cables) and listen to my music library. The remote allows me to navigate through folders on the iPod. I connect my Vizio television's optical out to the system to listen to all shows through it. The cables for the rear speakers are long enough to reach the opposite wall in my room (with room to spare). Overall I'm very happy.

I have had a blu ray drive on my computer but this is my first component blu ray drive. It was incredibly easy to setup. The menus were a little confusing at times, but with the manual I could find everything I wanted to tweak. I must say I was impressed until I started listening to music and watching blu rays. The Bass was great from the sub, and the surround speakers immersed you in the product. But the fronts were just too weak and tinny sounding. I decided I would experiment with my old speakers from my DVD HTIB. They are 6ohm 100watt speakers that are a little bigger and wooden. OMG! the difference was astounding! I wanted to post this review just to let everyone know to grab a pair of your old stereo speakers and watch this baby soar.

The Ipod connection was a little disappointing. I plugged my itouch and iphone in (works with airplane mode). The sound was fine, but nothing really translated onto the screen. It just let you advance, play and stop from the remote. In the end I still would control it from the ipod. The only difference from the line in jack is the few remote buttons and it charges while the system is on. Panasonic does a much better job with this. Maybe a firmware upgrade will change this. Also if your system is stuck in muting when you plug ipod in, a reboot fixes it. I found this online.

Finally, with Internet connectivity you would think they could integrate Netflix and Pandora. But not yet. I am hoping a firmware upgrade will add them.

All in all, as a Blu Ray home theater in a box it is superb. I set it up with HDMI and Optical connections all around and it paid off. But I would have given it a 4.5 or 5 if the front speakers hadn't been so weak out of the box. But not a deal breaker as cheap bigger speakers really added the oomph it was missing.

I love this home theater system! We got it last year and it has been one of my favorite purchases. The sound is crystal clear! The 7.1 audio sounds amazing. The setup is pretty easy as everything is color coded and the directions are clear. It even has a part that calibrates the sound to your specific room. This is a definite buy if you're looking for a reasonably priced blu-ray system.

This unit is a very nice blu-ray player, and general receiver. It also plays CDs very nicely. However, you have to use a HDMI connector cord from the player to the HDTV. If you do not use HDMI and use (as an example), component plugs, the picture on the HDTV will be somewhat fuzzy (actually unacceptable). So if your TV only has 1 HDMI receptacle, and you are currently using same for your regular TV channels, you will have to switch up and use component plugs for your HDTV regular TV channels so that you can "free-up" the TVs HDMI port for the Sony Blu-ray. You can buy a HDMI switching unit as a solution, but that is an additional unit and hassle, etc. Of course if your TV has more than 1 HDMI port you should be in good shape. In addition, it has no female port for your headphones, and my attempts to contact Sony to see if their S-Air technology can easily solve this issue were fruitless. Other than that, not too bad, but I would recommend searching for a very competitive price in light of the drawbacks.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. It puts out amazing sound for the small speakers. I just wish I would have known that the two back speakers are not wireless. It was a great price for the product. I would recommend this product to other consumers.

This was a good buy 4 me as I am not a techie; my other DVD player was dying & so I opted for this one & hope t/have it as long as my other Sony system, which was almost ten years old!
