Product Description

The Sony DAV-HDX279WC BRAVIATheatre System is what you would expect from an integrated Home Theater System. The included S-AIR System allows for easy set up of your rear speakers by sending the audio information wirelessly from the main unit. The wiring from the front of the room to the rear of the room is now gone. By adding the optional AIR-SA10 you can expand the systems capability to support multi-room listening. The DAV-HDX279WC also includes an iPod cradle (TDM-iP10), integrated five DVD/CD changer that can upscale your DVD to a Full 1080p2 output making your movies look better than ever. The DAV-HDX279WC is also equipped with a DIGITAL MEDIA PORT that works with various accessories (sold separately), such as a PC Client Ready device, Bluetooth adapter and Audio Docking Stations compatible with select Walkman and iPod products. In conjunction with the DMP, Portable Audio Enhancer (w/front input) provides the highest quality playback of your music into a traditional home theater system. The DAV-HDX279WC can control a select number of BRAVIA televisions with BRAVIA Sync via the HDMI interface. With “One Touch Play,” operations that took several steps have been reduced to one. This BRAVIA Theatre System can also optimize the speakers to your room in just 30 seconds with Digital Cinema Auto Calibration.

4.0 out of 5 stars compatibility of sound system with TV, January 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Sony BRAVIA Theater System (DAVHDX279W) - Black (Electronics)
I have a Sony Bravia 40 inch high definition LCD. I wanted a sound system that was compatible and would integrate well with the TV. After reviewing several surround sound systems, I decided on the Sony Bravia Theater System, due to the specs but mainly because it was the same brand as the TV. After installation (which was easy and set up quick), I couldn't be more pleased. The sound is ample for the room in which it is located, there is good separation for 5.1 Dolby, the controls for the TV operate the routine use of the sound system and the shift from satellite TV to DVDs is fairly seamless. I would recommend the Bravia Theater System, especially for the same brand TV.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good overall - but with some frustrating limitations, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Sony BRAVIA Theater System (DAVHDX279W) - Black (Electronics)
All in all, it's fine considering I got a really good deal on it, just fell below my expectations. Had I paid full price I would probably have returned it.

Beware if you think you're getting into a simple "setup and go"/"plug & play" system. In my experience, you'll be lucky if you can get all 5 speakers working at the same time without major setup the first 5-10 times you use it with a different scenario (cable/dvr, dvd) and extensive reading. I have an HDTV & DVR and have been on the phone with tech support 3x. Just when I thought I was good, I come home to watch a concert DVD and the wireless speakers aren't working - have to again go through the process of pairing the S-Air unit. I also get a pretty substantial echo if I'm watching cable and have the tv sound on, my solution so far has been to just turn the tv all the way down - guess I'll have to call support again at some point.

Also, if you're buying it for the added iPod dock functionality beware that video does not work - only audio. So, if you have an iTouch or iPhone for example, you won't be able to see the display on your tv. This is a misconception by the folks in the local electronics superstore near you. Overall it's a fine system, just takes some getting used to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, April 12, 2009

System installed fairly easy. Remote control is a little busy. Would of liked to see more definition between TV and stereo controls. Once I get used to it I'm sure it will be fine.
