5.0 out of 5 stars Plug and Play, Easy Navigation, Crisp picture, Varieties of connection
First, I would like to say that this TV is a beauty. It's easy to setup. It took me around 10 minutes to set it up which include opening of the box, moving away all the styro foam, hauling it to the TV stand and connecting it with HDMI cables.
Second, I have Sony PSP and this TV's navigation's is very similar to the PSP. Hence, in order to navigate through the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful until the backilghts went out after 2 years
Seriously, this was a wonderful tv but it didn't last.

After 2 years one of the fluorescent backlights has a flickering problem.
Sony has basically said that I will have to pay almost half of my original purchase.

There has been a grand drop in quality over at Sony. Pretty much every piece of electronics I have purchased from then in the...

Hence, in order to navigate through the menu is a walk in the park. In addition, short cuts on the remote is good enough for me.
Third, Crisp Picture (stripe test). I almost bought Samsung LNT4065F. The Samsung has a reflective screen which makes it look really cool + it makes it look like a plasma. However, when the store showed a man with stripe shirt on the both screens, this Sony TV could show the stripe without any difficulties while the some stripes were combined into 1 stripe on the Samsung. That when I decided to pick this Sony over the Samsung. Btw, I also compared this TV with Sony KDL-40V2500. Crisp-wise, they looked the same however the picture on the KDL-40V2500 is a little darker (the contrast is 7,000 compare to 16,000 on the W3000). However despite the contrast is only 7,000 in the V2500, it passed the stripe test as well.
Fourth, Varieties of input. This TV offers quite a variety of input. I have tried the HDMI, Component, Coax all of which yield superb pics. The HDMI yielded the highest quality of picture. I tested the TV with HD cable box with component as well with HD cable box with HDMI. The one with HDMI yielded a little better picture.

In summary, KDL-40W3000 is a easy to setup, to navigate TV with a high quality picture and has a good varieties of input. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars One month so far, September 22, 2007

I've been living with my 40W series for a month so far and while I agree with the generally positive reviews posted, a few qualifications are in order.

1. The picture quality when hooked up to analog sources is worse than with an analog tv. This is true for all HDTVs, but be prepared for this. When I first set this TV up, I had it hooked to my Dish Network non-hdtv receiver and the picture quality was poor. Now I have a Dish Network 722 hidef receiver and the picture quality is excellent on the HD channels and very good on the standard channels. I also have an xbox360 with the hidef dvd player attached, picture quality is awesome on these. Just remember to set your xbox360 options to hidef output.

2. When the picture is relatively static the picture quality is awsome, however, this set like most all LCDs does not have a high refresh rate, so when there is a lot of movement on the screen you can notice a slight blurring. If this is not acceptable, go for a plasma.

3. The color pallete is outstanding, I have not seen more realistic colors on a TV. That said, you may want to fiddle with the color controls. I found the default set up to be a little over saturated color wise.

4. Appearance wise, this is the best looking tv on the market. I can't stand the glossy finish on the Samsung and other sets.

Overall a great TV.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

You really get what you pay for. I looked at the cheaper and lower Sony models and the resolution at 16000 is why I chose this one. I checked Best Buy and Ciruit City and they told me they match each others prices but can't compeate with Amazon. Worth the 5 day delivery wait saved $300.

Having a family room with one complete wall of windows, I was never able to watch a TV against the opposite wall. This Sony 40W3000 has a non reflective coating that has minimized relection and glare beyond anyone's expectations. If you're having similiar problems, I recommend you try this 40 inch or the 46 inch version (46W3000) for an exceptional HDTV picture beyond comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cinematic experience, October 31, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-40W3000 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
The quality of the picture this display is capable of producing
is simply outstanding. The colors are clear and vibrant, and the
circuitry transitions smoothly from one scene to another. Esthetically,
the design of the set is elegantly simple, and functional. There are
plenty of alternative connections for now and the future. The sound is
rather mediocre, but pleasant enough if you simply turn the treble
down. Easy to read and navigate displays, and a lighted remote control
make this TV an excellent choice for anyone looking for advanced circuitry, and solid value in a flat panel television.

After much research we bought this TV in September 2007 for our den. We have been a Sony TV fan and this one kept upto our expectations or much more. The HD picture clarity is so good and life like ( movies or sceneries)that we wish that we bought a much bigger size.As expected, this TV has to be connected with HDMI cables for best picture quality. The viewing angle is very good. If one spends a few minutes with the manual,it is very user friendly. While the inbuilt speakers are fairly good, we recommend surround speakers to get the best sound experience for the picture quality.
Overall, we are immensely satisfied this product.
As always, the order placement, execution and the whiteglove delivery as promised by Amazon was excellent.

I purchased the Sony KDL 40w3000 a couple months ago and have loved it since day one. It was easy to assemble and with the help of a mount, now sits comfortably on my living room wall.

I currently connect a PlayStation 3 to the television, and it delivers an amazing picture. Both DVDs (upscaled on the PS3) and Blu-ray Discs look beautiful. The Planet Earth Series on Blu-Ray consistently leaves me slack jawed and drooling.

I compared the 40w3000's picture quality to Sharp and Samsung LCD screens and Panasonic Plasma displays. I do not have any particular brand loyalties, and I found the Sony to have the best, brightest, most vibrant image. Additionally, my appreciation for the 40w3000's clean styling and brushed metal finish continues to grow. Its simplicity does not distract from the viewed image, and its understated elegance fits nicely in my living room.

All in all, this television produces a stunning image and houses it in a beautiful casing. The three HDMI inputs are appreciated. I can't wait to hook up a HD television connection.

UPDATE: Six months later, I now connect DirecTV to my TV and am still impressed with the image quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding top notch picture quality, February 14, 2008
This review is from: Sony Bravia W-Series KDL-40W3000 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
i searched for well over a month comparing lcd to plasma to find out the best quality for the picture quality and settled on SONY'S KDL-40W3000. when you plug this baby in for the first time and watch a blu-ray movie you will be blown away. i recommend trying BBC's series Planet Earth on blu-ray first. the colors are so vibrant and saturated, i thought i was looking through a glass window. the 16,000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio really shows. it blows some plasma tv's ive seen at a much higher price away, really. don't settle for the KDL-40V2500. it doesn't compare. this has more then twice the contrast ratio, 24p true frame output and picture in picture. it does suffer from motion lag as most lcd do when it come to fast motion scenes but you don't really notice it unless the motion is horizontal and really fast. if you want to spend a few bucks more, i recommend getting the XBR4 or XBR5 series with 120 FRC. this will eliminate the horizontal motion lag. i wish i did LOL. very satified with this LCD. 5 OF 5 stars.

This 40" Sony Bravia is even better than my 26" Sony Bravia. All high def productions thru my cable provider are all that I could ask for! Delivery was just when it was promised. Even the wrappings were taken away! The price could not be touched by my area stores, no delivery charges, and no state taxes!
What a deal on a great product! Thanks !
