5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for HDTV, April 9, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I looked at the 1080i sets from Samsung and Sony, but realized that I would not get any benefit from 1080 over the 720i sets that sell for hundreds less. HD TV signals today are all 720i and current gen DVDs can be up converted to 720i. But only the next gen DVDs (blue ray, etc.) can use the 1080 resolution. It may be years until the next gen format war is resolved, so there really isn't a practical reason to go for the 1080 sets.

I looked long and hard at the Sony 46S2010 versus the Samsung LNS4692 720i set. Both have excellent reviews and look great in a showroom. The way I decided on the Sony was to go to a TV showroom and find the two side by side. Then I adjusted both sets to normal color saturation (out of the box, both are set to "Vivid," which stands out in the showroom but looks stupid in your living room). After those adjsutments were made, I found the Sony to be more realistic in skin tone colors and had less "clay face." You really can't go wrong with either set though.

One disadvantage of the Sony to consider is that it has only one HDMI input. This would be a problem if you have a cable box with HDMI output and you also want to connect an upconvert DVD player which requires HDMI out. If you are in that situation, go for the Samsung which has two HDMI inputs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony is alright with me, March 24, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
We had looked at several brands at various stores over the last year. Every time we looked we both always enjoyed the picture and sound of the Sony when compared to anything else in the store. So this Christmas we decided that we would spend the big bucks and treat ourselves to an HDTV. We spent a couple of weeks taking a serious look at all the latest TVs. Once again we enjoyed the Sony above all the rest. While we could see a difference between 720p and 1080p we had be to close to it to see that difference. Moving to the viewing distance at home, we discovered we could not see the difference. This model seemed to be the price point for us where more money did not bring an appreciable increase in quality.

Having decided on the model, we began to shop for price. All the local stores seemed to have prices within a few dollars of each other. My wife logged onto Amazon and found the set for $400 cheaper than any of the local stores, and shipping was free.

After the set arrived I just connected it to the antenna (yes, you read that right antenna). Then using the composite video inputs I connected the DVD player and VCR. In the LA area almost every channel broadcasts in digital. Most of the stations broadcast their more popular shows in High Definition. Even if the broadcast is not in HD, the digital broadcast is so much clearer then the analog equivalents. As if TV wasn't addictive enough before. The picture is better then what we perceived in the store. Every visitor who has seen the picture is blown away by its three dimensional and life like picture. Even my cheapskate sister went gaga and has started to shop for one. After some looking on her own, even she thinks the Sony is worth the extra cost.

The DVD picture is okay using our old non up-converting player, but boy I really hope they get the HD Blue Ray thing worked out and the prices down as we have become spoiled by HD quality.

This thing only draws 125 watts of power, that's one fifth of most plasmas. My other sister has a plasma and after feeling for heat coming from our Sony, she said that her plasma emitted much more heat and their electric bills increased noticeably. If you get the 1080 p version it uses 2.2 times more power and unless you have really good eyes, sit real close and only watch HD and Blue Ray movies, you will never see the difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TV!!!, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Really enjoying hi-def on this tv. Listed at 720p but has 1080 imputs and and I didn't really see any difference watching blu ray dvd at store compared with the picture on this Sony. Much brighter than DLP and of course much wider viewing angle. None of the glare of plasma. Only negative is possibly some of the non hi def shows look a little less clear. Possibly because they are blown up larger. Must play with the settings to try to minimize this and get the clearest picture . Free delivery went great also very professional and careful service
