5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for HDTV
I looked at the 1080i sets from Samsung and Sony, but realized that I would not get any benefit from 1080 over the 720i sets that sell for hundreds less. HD TV signals today are all 720i and current gen DVDs can be up converted to 720i. But only the next gen DVDs (blue ray, etc.) can use the 1080 resolution. It may be years until the next gen format war is resolved, so...

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad very bad
I bougth this TV, and was so happy, but a day it does not turn on, I sent it to the service center, and I can't believe it, they say that the TV has a lamp damage, and that the repair has a cost of $4.000,oo. THREE TIMES THE COST OF THE TV and that the replacement part just come, (together) the lamps, the screening, and the TV card. The service center says that a 0,5% of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for HDTV, April 9, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
It may be years until the next gen format war is resolved, so there really isn't a practical reason to go for the 1080 sets.

I looked long and hard at the Sony 46S2010 versus the Samsung LNS4692 720i set. Both have excellent reviews and look great in a showroom. The way I decided on the Sony was to go to a TV showroom and find the two side by side. Then I adjusted both sets to normal color saturation (out of the box, both are set to "Vivid," which stands out in the showroom but looks stupid in your living room). After those adjsutments were made, I found the Sony to be more realistic in skin tone colors and had less "clay face." You really can't go wrong with either set though.

One disadvantage of the Sony to consider is that it has only one HDMI input. This would be a problem if you have a cable box with HDMI output and you also want to connect an upconvert DVD player which requires HDMI out. If you are in that situation, go for the Samsung which has two HDMI inputs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony is alright with me, March 24, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
We had looked at several brands at various stores over the last year. Every time we looked we both always enjoyed the picture and sound of the Sony when compared to anything else in the store. So this Christmas we decided that we would spend the big bucks and treat ourselves to an HDTV. We spent a couple of weeks taking a serious look at all the latest TVs. Once again we enjoyed the Sony above all the rest. While we could see a difference between 720p and 1080p we had be to close to it to see that difference. Moving to the viewing distance at home, we discovered we could not see the difference. This model seemed to be the price point for us where more money did not bring an appreciable increase in quality.

Having decided on the model, we began to shop for price. All the local stores seemed to have prices within a few dollars of each other. My wife logged onto Amazon and found the set for $400 cheaper than any of the local stores, and shipping was free.

After the set arrived I just connected it to the antenna (yes, you read that right antenna). Then using the composite video inputs I connected the DVD player and VCR. In the LA area almost every channel broadcasts in digital. Most of the stations broadcast their more popular shows in High Definition. Even if the broadcast is not in HD, the digital broadcast is so much clearer then the analog equivalents. As if TV wasn't addictive enough before. The picture is better then what we perceived in the store. Every visitor who has seen the picture is blown away by its three dimensional and life like picture. Even my cheapskate sister went gaga and has started to shop for one. After some looking on her own, even she thinks the Sony is worth the extra cost.

The DVD picture is okay using our old non up-converting player, but boy I really hope they get the HD Blue Ray thing worked out and the prices down as we have become spoiled by HD quality.

This thing only draws 125 watts of power, that's one fifth of most plasmas. My other sister has a plasma and after feeling for heat coming from our Sony, she said that her plasma emitted much more heat and their electric bills increased noticeably. If you get the 1080 p version it uses 2.2 times more power and unless you have really good eyes, sit real close and only watch HD and Blue Ray movies, you will never see the difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TV!!!, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Really enjoying hi-def on this tv. Listed at 720p but has 1080 imputs and and I didn't really see any difference watching blu ray dvd at store compared with the picture on this Sony. Much brighter than DLP and of course much wider viewing angle. None of the glare of plasma. Only negative is possibly some of the non hi def shows look a little less clear. Possibly because they are blown up larger. Must play with the settings to try to minimize this and get the clearest picture . Free delivery went great also very professional and careful service

Sony always makes a great product. This LCD is no exception. Great set and easy to set up. The Bravia came after a lengthy shipping time. It arrived damaged on one corner. I called Amazon Customer Servicethe same day. Another set dispatched and received in 3 days. No hassle, no questions, no problems, and great follow through. Good Job Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super AMAZON and SONY did it again!, April 7, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
We searched through the many, many offers for this particular TV. We felt the best was Amazon's. With free shipping and no tax it was truly a bargain. But even better, was the delivery and setup.

The TV is beautiful and the picture is sharp and clear. Can't find anything to complain about. Thanks Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony costs a bit more, but it's worth it!, March 29, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Not in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to own a Sony, much less a 46" LCD TV, but I scored in both areas! This TV is awesome!

Set up was a breeze. No special technical know-how was needed, and the owner's manual is very clear about connection options. I hooked up the TV to my stereo, DVD player, VCR, and cable box. All work wonderfully with this set.

The remote is ridiculously simple and easy to operate. I didn't even have to go to the manual to learn how. The on screen menu system is complete and easy to navigate with the remote. Switching from one input to another is easy, as is changing picture modes and wide formats.

The picture quality is unbelievable. I first watched programs with my standard cable box (no HD), and things looked really good. Then I played around with some custom settings, and the picture looks even better for my room environment.

The custom settings (one for each separate input) are very useful for my VCR which, of course, has lousy picture quality. Those settings help make even my old self-recorded VHS movies look good. It goes without saying that my DVD's look great.

I spent the additional $5 a month to get a HD cable box, and I'm really glad I did. HD is everything they say it is and more. The clarity is fantastic, and this TV brings the picture to life the way no other can.

Sony is tops in the quality of the LCD TV's. This one is a great example of "you get what you pay for." Spend the extra bucks on a Sony; you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony LCD TV, March 27, 2007

Ireceived my set within the time commited, with no problems.
The picture was OK with the standard analog signal. However, when I upgraded to Digital the next week, the picture was outstading. Even the analog channels were superior to my old Sony 27" tube set which still gives a very good picture. I am extremely satisfied with this set. Reliability judgement will havew to wait.

And the delivery service was great. The set was delivered, the box opened, the tv mounted on the stand and the tv was connected to cable, The man asked if I was satisfied and gave me a short briefing on operation, picked up all the packing material and left the room in good condition. I can't ask for better. If you want a large TV set, get it from Amazon. It may not be the cheapest, but it is competitive and the no problem delivery service is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleased with both the tv and Amazon's shipping, February 13, 2007

I deliberated for several months between the 1080p Sony KDL-46V2500 and the Sony KDL-46S2010 before opting for the 720p KDL-46S2010, and my family and I could not be more pleased. The additional $700 cost for the 1080p=capable 46V2500 model did not seem warranted to us; perhaps if lots of 1080p content were available but not currently. In addition to the clear picture, we like this Sony model's PC jack which allows me to easily show my digital photos and the provision of a headphone jack for quiet, late-night viewing. I had some trepidation about mail-ordering an expensive electronic device like this, but Amazon's shippers, Eagle Freight, delivered the set to my living room on time and in perfect condition. Once again, Amazon does not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT TV.....JUST THE BEST IN HD, March 9, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
After months of doing online research and going to retail stores to compare tv's and picture quality, I decided to get this one and couldn't be more satisfied. Very easy to set up, light reflections not a problem any more, as my other tv I had to close windows so I could see the picture (talking about plasma tv). I highly recommend you get HDTV service as soon as possible if you buy this set. you will get the best picture in HD and the best reception from satellite or analog tv. Since this is a large screen tv, regular channels look distortioned and it is not because of tv set quality, it is because these tv's are made for High Definition signal that is why you should get HDTV service once you take this beauty home. Once you get HD service you will also get the best resolution on regular (analog) channels. To get the best picture in HD I recommed the following settings done by a PROFESSIONAL:

PICTURE MODE:.......CUSTOM
BACKLIGHT:..........2*
PICTURE:............85
BRIGHTNESS:.........60
COLOR:..............47
TINT:...............R4
SHARPNESS...........MIN.
COLOR TEMP.:........WARM 2
NOISE REDUCTION:....2
ADVANCED SETTINGS:..ALL OFF

Use these settings and you will be enjoying the best picture in HD and analog signals. If you have more than one component with HDMI connections, don't worry you still can get a HDMI-Switcher from Amazon.com and have 5 HDMI connections instead of one, so that is no big deal. Hope this review will help you make a decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Don't pay big bux for 1080p while this one is still available!", July 7, 2007
This review is from: Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S2010 46-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Wow! I thought it looked good in the store, but when I got it home....!
While Sony and Samsung lead the field right now, you can forget the 1080p hype. This thing is amazing! Pick one up if you find it at a good price because it will be phased out, no doubt. Nothing to add that hasn't already been said, except to say that if you take the time to tweak it, I cannot image a finer picture on digital HD. My easy chair is about 12 feet away, and this is just about the perfect size. SD channels are not quite as good as on old fashioned TV, but the future will probably take care of that. Again, if you're debating paying the extra money for 1080p, right now, forget it. This is so sharp and bright LOTR on upconverted DVD will make you dizzy!
