5.0 out of 5 stars Does a lot for a lot less than the rest...
If your are looking for a less expensive camcorder that still offers some fun features, than the TRV-37 is the way to go...it's not Hi8 or digital...but it has a color LCD, offers some nice title and editing features, has the night vision option and is very comfortable to hold.

I tried to be realistic when making this purchase. Am I going to edit these tapes, do I...

1.0 out of 5 stars Camera did not work
I bought the camera to convert old hi-8 tapes. As soon as I put them in and switched to playback mode, the camera froze up. I tried multiple tapes and none would play back

I tried to be realistic when making this purchase. Am I going to edit these tapes, do I need the stabilizer, do I want an LCD, what about the tape quality, how much do I want to spend?...in the end the TRV-37 was the best option for me...now that I have used it several times I am absolutely sure I made the right decision!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera. Just missing a few extra features., October 12, 2000

When I first started looking for a camcorder all I knew is I didn't want to spend the money on a digital one because the picture isn't as clear as even a 8mm camcorder relative to price...Because it's digital you get hazy or pixeled pictures on low end digital camcorders. When I finally went to purcahse a camcorder, it came between sony and canon. Canon had 2x more optical zoom and 300x more digital zoom, but the Sony had better picture and the camera just sat better in my hand. The buttons were placed in more manageable spots, except for the light switch. Anyhow, the picture on this camera is crystal clear, even when I use lower quality 8mm tapes. The only additional feature I would've liked it to have is a stablilizer... All in all it's a great camera that has the most important feature of all, GREAT PICTURE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really nice camcorder...But one drawback., August 20, 2000

This is a great camera for the price. It has many useful functions that use to cost quite a bit more. The only problem I have with it is that you have to charge the battery on the camera itself. I'm sure this was just a way for Sony to cut their cost, and get people to buy more charger accessories. This kind of annoyed me when I opened the box, but the rest of the camera is great.

Its a great product for its price. It has lots of features and the color LCD is great. All it lacks is a case which you will have to purchase seperately.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good camera, December 7, 2003

I have owned my camera for over three years and have enjoyed it immensely. Contrary to what the specs say, it does have preset titles, and you can also make custom titles. It also has good quality pictures. I don't mind the battery charger, and I like being able to use the view finder or LCD screen. I have certainly gotten my money's worth. Too bad it's not a digital. It is a really good, dependable camera that is easy to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Entry Level Camera, April 27, 2003

I've had this camera for a couple years with no operational problems. It does suck battery a bit, so one may wish to obtain a more powerful battery pack. The only feature that I would like to have added is a stabilizer. When zoomed out, the picture tends to get pretty jumpy. But at no zoom to about half zoom, the picture is pretty solid. The sound quality and night vision capability are pretty impressive, too, for a camera in this price range.

As the title says, a good entry level video camera.

1.0 out of 5 stars This camera is trash!!, November 18, 2004
This review is from: Sony CCDTRV37 Camcorder (Electronics)
We bought this camera about 3 years ago, we had it for 5 months and it was never mishandled; used about 5 times. Then the tape started popping out and it wouldn't stay closed. Well, we had a service plan with it. Had to drive it 60 miles one way each time!! It has been fixed for the same problem 2 times now. It just sits in the closet. The plan is expired and we found out that it will cost about $90 to repair it (again). There is only 3 on ebay like it and 2 of those are not working as well!! Do not buy a Sony camcorder!!!

Like the other reviewer, My camera is about 6 months old and it doesnt work. Don't buy this camera or any camera from Sony. A friend of mine had a different model from Sony and that to doesn't work. Sony also does not care about their customers. So, I'm stuck with this worthless piece of junk.
