INCREDIBLE SOUND FOR THE PRICE - A REAL WINNER!
To begin with, I've never been into "boom-boxes". Now, however, I do lectures on classical music and opera, and I needed something "portable" to take with me on my lectures, but something that had good sound, since I play music with a full symphony orchestra, as well as a lot of opera. When I took this little machine home, I was a little skeptical. When I put on a...

Do Not Buy This Boombox
After working just fine for 13 months, the box stopped playing cds. Sony's site was no help, nor was the rep. They would be happy to replace it with a refurbished box for $7 less than a new one, or repair it for $10 more than I paid ($80) but no reason given why a box this new would die.
I purchased this boombox for my daughter's room. Basically, we put in a CD at bedtime, and set the sleep timer for 30 minutes. NOT heavy or detailed use ... I bought this unit because of the timer. After 3 months, when you push the play button (either remote or manually) the machine would sporadically play the CD. Usually after 2 or 3 'no disc' errors, and a power shutoff, it would eventually play. Now it's completely a 'no disc' error message. Of course, Sony's warranty person explained that it's a 90 day warranty ... imagine that! A COMPLETE waste of my money. If I'd have wanted a cheap machine to last a few months, I would have bought one. I paid extra for this one so it would last! I'll be hard pressed to buy Sony again!!!

I don't usually write reviews, but I'm so pleased with this machine that I'm making an exception. I was looking for something to replace my big Bose Wave radio. I relied on that for many years (broke the bank to get it), but it finally gave out. I looked into getting a new one, but they are sooo expensive. I decided to look into a Sony via Amazon, and saw a review that really caught my eye. It was from a very pleased customer who does lectures on classical music and opera and uses one of these portable machines. I'll be forever grateful to that reviewer, because I teach opera appreciation, and this machine is perfect for me! The sound is wonderful, especially with the MegaXpand and the MegaBass buttons on.
I have one small complaint, but it's not enough to cost a star--or even half a star. The display is hard to read. It's small and it's dark. However, I simply keep a small flashlight close by and use that when I need it.
The machine has an attractive blue glow when it's on. Very nice!
The price is reasonable, which is another definate plus.
The bottom line is that I'm blissfully happy with this purchase and again, very grateful to the mentioned reviewer as well as to Amazon.

Like others who've written reviews, the CD player is giving a 'no disc' message. I just wish I'd seen the reviews before we wasted our money on it... This is the 2nd Sony in a row to quit on us. Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me. This is the last time I'll ever buy a Sony anything!

I had a gift certificate to Amazon.com and bought this because it seemed to have the best speakers and it didn't look like it was created for a 14 year-old's bed room. If it had been my money, I would have kept looking.
I do miss some features that, for $80, really should be on this boom box. (c'mon, it's 2005).
- line-in (so I don't have to burn CDs everytime I want to play from my iPod--I _do_ like the speakers)
- MP3 playback (labeling anything with CDR/RW should mean MP3 compatibility by now)
- the cassette deck is manual (?) my kids have tapes though I don't think I do. But, manual? (i.e. can't control via remote)

I bought this for my son's birthday, and he was very excited with it, and I was really happpy with the way it sounded. Great sound on AC/DC, Judas Priest, and other heavy rocker's. Many moons ago when I bought a boom box for myself, the technology back then did not come close to the sound quality of this Sony. A very good product.

I bought this anyway after reading about the small display. I toyed with returning it for a couple of days - yes, the display is small and hard to read. The other annoying part is in programming the radio stations - not intuitive or easy. I ended up manually programming in the presets which was a bit of a hassle. After all is said and done, I am glad to have this machine - the size is right and the sound is very good. I bought this for my office and will use the remote for most functions as most of the controls are on the top of the box and I am setting this up on a file cabinet. CD and tape inserts are on the top as well. For the money it is a good buy. The others I looked at that were easier to use with comparable sound cost about $50+ higher.

All of my old CDs sound so fresh now playing by CFD-F10. You don't have to pay much to get a good CD player. Thanks to the reviewers - your comments really helped me to make decision for this purchase.

The sound is ok for a portable, not what I expected from a Sony product.
The unit seems bulkier than what is depicted in the photo.
I bought this item because it offered a cassette recorder as well as radio and CD player. But, the radio tuner is very poor and you can only draw in the strongest stations.
If I had not needed this item for work purposes and had more time, I would have sent this one back.

I have nothing but praise for this radio! This machine is fantastic. Great sound, great features, and great style. The preset radio stations are my favorite. You can set up to 20, and use your remote to change stations. I bought this one for my office, but I am thinking of getting another one to have at home.

True, I no longer have the ears of a 20 year-old, but to my aging ears the sound is really amazingly good. Good enough, in fact, that I use this machine more than my much larger, more expensive tuner. For the money, you can hardly go wrong. The styling is also wonderful. My 89 year-old father could figure out the controls on this machine with no difficulty. It's beautiful without any extra gimmicks often seen on boom boxes toted around by the teenage crowd. Good going, Sony!
