I hooked this up in my bedroom just to have something to listen to music on other than my alarm clock, but I didn't want a space-eating surround setup. I always trusted Sony electronics, so figured they'd be the company to go with for a setup this simple. I wasn't expecting for it to be as nice a system as it turned out to be. It sounds like a symphony hall in my bedroom now. Definitely worth the money.

Pros:
- Auxiliary Input makes it easy to connect it to my computer and/or mp3 players. I have seen people spend hundreds for speaker setups for computers and they sound nowhere near as nice as this stereo does hooked up to my laptop. This should make it very appealing to pc gamers and people that want better sound for the videos they watch on their computers.
- 20 Presets make it very easy to find your radio stations. Presetting all the stations in the area means no more worrying about automatic scan times when listening to radio.

Cons:
- I really wish that these manufacturers would make mp3 docks more versatile. I, for one, am tired of being restricted to the confines of the inferior sound quality of an ipod. For starters, Sony needs to trust their own players more than they do. The Walkman is a much better sounding player than any ipod on the market right now, especially the Nano (it's closest competitor). The iPod has peaked, and people are ready for a brand to take on the challenge of replacing it. Sony is definitely capable of it. The lack of fully functional compatibility shows me they have no intention on doing so though, which isn't necessarily a complaint about the product as much as it is about the direction of Sony's products in the foreseeable future.

Appears to be a good unit for the price - Except it is not compatible with iPod classic models earlier than 6th generation. Puchased for my wife's birthday and had to return because it's not compabible with her 5th generation iPod.

A terrific buy. Can play FM stations, connections for I-Pod or I-Phone and has slot for a CD. Exceptional sound for such a small footprint. Needed something to play CDs. Have an extensive collection and this SONY is one of the only ones to include a CD player. Easy set-up and the speakers reproduce nice sounds. Highly recommended!

Just a great unit. I live in a apartment, so this unit is just perfect. Not too loud and the sound is just great. It doesn't have equalizer but it still produces good sound.

I posted this same review at walmart.com on 6/29/13...I needed to replace my previous Sony stereo because the 3 disc changer stopped working after about 7 years of use, and it's cheaper to buy new than repair something like that. After doing a lot of research, I ran into this stereo. I love it and have purchased two for myself and two for two relatives. We have owned all four units for almost three months. My relatives are not as particular as I am about purchases like this, but they too are satisfied with the units. Since I refuse to subscribe to cable or even local television programming, being able to hear the news, music, etc. clearly and loudly from my phone, lab top, etc. is very important to me thus the 3.5 mm jack on the unit as well as the dynamic sound and the sale price i paid were critical to me buying and keeping this unit.

Pros:

1) 40 watts is plenty loud enough - ( I bought two of these, one for each floor, so that I could control the stereo from the floor that I'm on at the time). However, I could easily hear the stereo on the first floor from the second floor and vice versa, and I have a fairly large home (approx. 2000 square feet). The speaker sound is also clear and full. To test it out upon initially purchasing it, I listened to:

* Mariah Carey's Butterly and Honey (from CD)

* The Smashing Pumpkins' Cherub Rock (from mp3 download from my phone)

* Eric Satie's Gnossienne No. 1 (from CD and youtube.com on lap top)

* Billy Holiday's My Man (from mp3 file from phone and youtube.com on phone)

* Several Youtube.com news vidoes

* Several NPR Videos

My goal was to test the sound from different sources and across different types of sounds...

The sound is real clear with good reception. Not too big for my place which lacks counter space. Definately would recommend this as a good buy.

Would be five stars except that the system is much larger than it appears in the listings. The pictures make it appear as a unit assembly with detachable speakers that separate (my impression / my bad). It is, in fact a component assembly that actually takes up much more space than I expected. I gave it four stars because the sound quality and functions of the unit are great and do meet
or exceed my expectations.
