4.0 out of 5 stars You need both Sony VCL-DH2630 Telephoto Conversion Lens for Compatible Cybershot Digital Cameras
Sony VCL-DH2630 Telephoto Conversion Lens for Compatible Cybershot Digital Cameras (Purchased on 07/17/2005)

Sony VAD-WA Conversion Lens Adapter for the DSCW1/W5/W7 Digital Cameras (Purchased on 07/17/2005)

You need both. They allow you to get shots that the camera telephoto can not pick up in detail. I learned this the hard way...

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor with wide-angle lens
When mated to a Sony wide-angle lens, the on-camera flash becomes partially blocked causing a dark area in the photo. A major flaw in my opinion.

Sony makes no mention of this on the packaging.

when I took a series of shots of three wolves stalking a dozen caribou. I have little splotches. I swore then to get a telephoto. You need both for items to function. They are relatively heavy and the size of the camera. There is just one magification no adjustment. So what you see is what you get. It does expand your use of a good versaltile pocket camera. I buy it again

What can I say about this adapter except that it works on my W5 perfectly. Just screw it on like a lightbulb and then attach whatever lens you bought with it. Easy, easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony DSC-W1 Adapter Ring, March 5, 2007
This review is from: Sony VAD-WA Conversion Lens Adapter for the DSCW1/W5/W7 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
I bought this ring to fit a wide angle lens to my Sony DSC-W1 and it's a perfect fit. I love it. Very high quality. The only drawback is, of course, how the lens blocks the flash a little.

4.0 out of 5 stars major camera design flaw..., February 14, 2007
This review is from: Sony VAD-WA Conversion Lens Adapter for the DSCW1/W5/W7 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
the sony VAD-WA conversion lens adapter lets other lens attchments and polarizing effects filters to be used in sony cybershot cameras. it works just fine however, when this adapter together with the lens attachments and/or filters are on, a considerable portion of the picture, particularly the bottom center, gets dark. the reason for this flaw is (just what other reviews mentioned) the flash is just above the adapter which causes a dark shadow to the bottom center portion of the picture. everytime the flash is used, specially at night or low light conditions, the shadow is cast which blocks the bottom 5-20 percent of the picture.

a slave flash attachment may solve this problem but according to it's reviews, it has a reputation of not firing off, gives too much light, and the expensive price tag.

overall, i still give the sony VAD-WA conversion lens a 4 star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lens Adapter, August 24, 2006
This review is from: Sony VAD-WA Conversion Lens Adapter for the DSCW1/W5/W7 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
It works perfectly! Sure it's a bit of a pain to have to have an adapter to attach the lens to the camera but it's so simple to use. It attaches very smoothly and easily to both the lens and camera. The mount is very secure and stable. Yes there is a bit of a "tunnel" effect until you use the W/T function on the camera but overall it works great!
