Sony DSC-TX10 Feature Highlights
Rugged and Stylish
Rugged and Stylish
This camera is just as much at home in the water as on a night on the town! The sleek and stylish TX10 fits the slimmest pocket or purse, yet is waterproof to a depth of 16 ft10, shockproof from falls up to approximately 5 ft9 and dustproof12 thanks to its airtight construction. As well, this durable camera can even withstand extreme weather conditions, as it is operable in temperatures from 14- to 104-degrees Fahrenheit11.  Seamlessly shifting from underwater marvels to a night on the town, the TX10 always makes it easy to get the best shot!
3.0-inch LCD 3-inch Touch screen
A large 3-inch touch screen LCD makes it easy for viewing and sharing images with simple and fun touch operation.
Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor
16.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS Image Sensor
The DSC-TX10 features a 16.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined “Exmor R” CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor delivers extremely fast 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 1080i movie modes7.
Full HD 1080 Full HD 1080@60i
Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60i in 1080 Full HD3. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HD TV.
3D still image
Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Images will take on a new dimension to view the world in a whole new way5.
iSweep Panorama
iSweep Panorama
With iSweep Panorama just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a panoramic image. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to help avoid subject distortion.
Background Defocus
DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now our point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit. The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocused background keeping the subject crisp and clear.
Superior Auto Mode Superior Auto Mode
Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using backlight correction HDR technology and lower image noise using 6 shots layering technology. Superior Auto intelligently detects 36 scenes for still images and movies, making it easy to get the best shot.
Soft Skin Mode
Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot.
Natural Flash
Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images.
High speed shooting
The DSC-TX10 can capture full 16.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, the DSC-TX10 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.
Carl Zeiss Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens with 25mm equivalent wide 4x Optical Zoom
The high-performance Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports, and travel photos, and Close Focus shoots close-ups up to just under ½-inch from the subject. A wide angle of 25mm equivalent wide-angle lens allows you to take wider shots of the scene or group in crowded spaces.
HDMI output
HDMI output
The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a compact audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed digital streams. HDMI connects digital audio/video sources such as a compatible camcorder, Blu-ray Disc player, a personal computer, a video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a digital television (DTV). Easily connect your Cyber-shot camera via HDMI cable to any compatible HDMI compatible device to easily enjoy and upload content7.
Smile Shutter Smile Shutter technology
Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. Also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can be used together with Smile Shutter mode.  This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.
Face Detection technology Face Detection technology
Sony’s Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends.
Motion Detection
Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces.
Anti-blink Function
It’s frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot.
Sweep Multi Angle Mode
In Sweep Multi Angle mode, the camera takes 15 images at different angles as it sweeps across the scene. By tilting the camera during playback, the camera’s Gyro Sensor detects motion and displays the image in a 3D-like view on the camera’s LCD.
Anti-Motion Blur Mode
Capture cleaner and sharper images in low light for non landscape shots. When set in Anti-motion Blur Mode, the DSC-TX10 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shutter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and dramatically reduce subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.
Backlight Correction HDR
Shooting high-contrast scenes can often lead to washed out backgrounds and/or details lost in shadow. Backlight Correction HDR helps correct for this by taking three pictures at different exposure settings and processing the best elements of all three into a single image for more natural looking shots.
TransferJet Technology TransferJet technology
TransferJet technology, developed by Sony and advanced and promoted by consortium of 18 other companies, allows the transfer of up to ten files between two TransferJet enabled devices just by touching their TransferJet logos together, without the hassle of hunting for cables or the complication of pairing8.
Works with iMovie Compatible with PC and MAC Systems

Includes Sony PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Software ver. 5.51

UPDATED AS OF 5/31/2011: Kept the camera after I thought about returning it and I'm glad I kept it. Updated rating from 3 stars to 4 stars

I'm an underwater and rugged camera junkie so when I heard about this new camera I had very high expectations. I have owned 2 other Panasonic TS1 waterproof cameras and loved those (other than my last one leaked and destroyed the camera. Thank goodness for Squaretrade)I'm not a Sony 'fanboy' and never have been but have had a few good experiences in the past with quality of build and ease of use with their products so I thought i would part ways with Panasonic and try out the TX10. On paper... this camera seemed like it was the PERFECT underwater/outdoor camera. I loved the fact that you could slip it in your pocket and take it anywhere due to its size and it looks right at home even in a fancy restaurant. I spent a week snorkeling, hiking, and adventuring in Kauai so that served as my first chance to do an in depth review for what this camera was made for: the outdoors... and I wasn't too impressed with real-world usage. The photos and videos were great for such a small point and shoot but the practicality was lacking on multiple fronts to make this the "PERFECT" outdoor camera. However, there are a lot of things I truly appreciate about this little camera. In classic Pro/Con style, here are my overall thoughts and feelings on the Sony TX10.

Pros:
-Small and compact. Sexy. Take it anywhere. Looks right at home on the beach or in a fancy restaurant.
-Touch screen is "cool". I would love this screen on non-waterproof casual camera... BUT... its also a con, see below
-Cool, useless features like smile detection (takes the picture automatically when you smile) and 3D... haven't used 3D. Like I said, Fun, but useless.

I was in the market for a new digital camera since the old one I had broke because I left it in the hot sun in my car all day. The main reasons I chose this Sony Cyber shot TX10 is because first It appears to be more durable(for weather extremes, water, and a low level drop). Secondly, it was always annoying to me that when I went to sporting events or really any type of event, I had to choose between either taking a video or a still picture, and then had to stop and take a few seconds to change modes if I needed to hurry and do the opposite. With this camera, you can do both at the same time. there are two separate buttons on top(one is the video record button, and the other the still picture shutter button). So as your taking video, you can press the shutter button and take still images without interrupting your video recording. How cool is that? Now, while I'm on the subject of Video, there is a little annoying downside. You have to decide ahead of time if you want to record in the highest definition AVCHD for playback on your HDTV, or MP4 for playback and editing on your computer and uploading to youtube. Now if you do chose MP4, you can play that on your HDTV, but it's not as high of quality video as if you chose AVCHD.

I do own a 3DTV, so being able to take some 3D still pictures for playback on my 3D was another selling point. I'll start with the panoramic 3D shots. These give a very cool 3D effect on your 3D TV. If you've ever seen those pictures that kind of move with you as you walk from one side of the picture to the other, it's kind of like that. As for the non-panoramic still 3D pictures, that mode is pretty pointless.

Well,
I'm totally disapointed with Sony because of this camera.
I have just used it for 2 weeks then it died. First time using the camera under water, after few minutes, it stopped working, the screem got crazy and it never turn on again. I have burned 300 bucks on nothing! I have followed all procedures, stayed in a place with less than 2 meters deep, only about 15 minutes after, the camera sttoped and never work anymore. I'm an old user of Olympus Stillus camera, and I love that, it still working for more than 4 years.
After chating with Sony specialists they told me to send it to Laredo Repair Center in Texas,
I'm in Brazil, so I expent U$40 to send the camera to the repair center and guess what, to fix the camera they charged me U$ 576!!!!! It's under warranty, I just used the camera as the specifications described in the manual and it get stuck, do not work anymore. That's the worst product I ever have with the worst support.
My equipment still at Laredo Repair Center, I hope sony can solve this problem ASAP!!!!
The support is awfull, customer suport and Laredo is even worst. I have wrotten a letter describing the problem, how it was used, everything in details and it looks like nobody read it. They just put the status at internet, to fix, it custs U$576!!!!! Call support to approve it. I have paid U$270 in the camera, its more than twice to get it fixed!! I called them and they told me many technical stuff and that simply the camera cannot be fixed. I have asked for a formal email about the problem and what cause it and they cannot send it!!!!
