Sony DSC-TX10 Feature Highlights
Rugged and Stylish
Rugged and Stylish
This camera is just as much at home in the water as on a night on the town! The sleek and stylish TX10 fits the slimmest pocket or purse, yet is waterproof to a depth of 16 ft10, shockproof from falls up to approximately 5 ft9 and dustproof12 thanks to its airtight construction. As well, this durable camera can even withstand extreme weather conditions, as it is operable in temperatures from 14- to 104-degrees Fahrenheit11.  Seamlessly shifting from underwater marvels to a night on the town, the TX10 always makes it easy to get the best shot!
3.0-inch LCD 3-inch Touch screen
A large 3-inch touch screen LCD makes it easy for viewing and sharing images with simple and fun touch operation.
Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor
16.2 Megapixel Back-illuminated “Exmor R” CMOS Image Sensor
The DSC-TX10 features a 16.2 megapixel “Exmor R” CMOS image sensor that brings out the full resolving power of the camera’s Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens to deliver extremely fast speed, high resolution, and stunning low-light sensitivity with improved image clarity and drastically reduced grain. In addition, the combined “Exmor R” CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor delivers extremely fast 10fps, Anti Motion Blur, Hand-held Twilight and 1080i movie modes7.
Full HD 1080 Full HD 1080@60i
Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60i in 1080 Full HD3. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HD TV.
3D still image
Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Images will take on a new dimension to view the world in a whole new way5.
iSweep Panorama
iSweep Panorama
With iSweep Panorama just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a panoramic image. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to help avoid subject distortion.
Background Defocus
DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now our point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit. The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocused background keeping the subject crisp and clear.
Superior Auto Mode Superior Auto Mode
Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using backlight correction HDR technology and lower image noise using 6 shots layering technology. Superior Auto intelligently detects 36 scenes for still images and movies, making it easy to get the best shot.
Soft Skin Mode
Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot.
Natural Flash
Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash mode takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that reference to correct the color, for far more lifelike images.
High speed shooting
The DSC-TX10 can capture full 16.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, the DSC-TX10 employs a mechanical shutter that helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects.
Carl Zeiss Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens with 25mm equivalent wide 4x Optical Zoom
The high-performance Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x optical zoom lens brings distant subjects closer for video recording as well as for outdoor, sports, and travel photos, and Close Focus shoots close-ups up to just under ½-inch from the subject. A wide angle of 25mm equivalent wide-angle lens allows you to take wider shots of the scene or group in crowded spaces.
HDMI output
HDMI output
The High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a compact audio/video connector interface for transmitting uncompressed digital streams. HDMI connects digital audio/video sources such as a compatible camcorder, Blu-ray Disc player, a personal computer, a video game console, or an AV receiver to a compatible digital audio device and/or video monitor such as a digital television (DTV). Easily connect your Cyber-shot camera via HDMI cable to any compatible HDMI compatible device to easily enjoy and upload content7.
Smile Shutter Smile Shutter technology
Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. Also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can be used together with Smile Shutter mode.  This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting.
Face Detection technology Face Detection technology
Sony’s Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends.
Motion Detection
Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces.
Anti-blink Function
It’s frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot.
Sweep Multi Angle Mode
In Sweep Multi Angle mode, the camera takes 15 images at different angles as it sweeps across the scene. By tilting the camera during playback, the camera’s Gyro Sensor detects motion and displays the image in a 3D-like view on the camera’s LCD.
Anti-Motion Blur Mode
Capture cleaner and sharper images in low light for non landscape shots. When set in Anti-motion Blur Mode, the DSC-TX10 captures six images in a fraction of a second with higher shutter speed and combines the data from all six to create a single image of extraordinary detail and dramatically reduce subject blur, beyond the capability of traditional cameras.
Backlight Correction HDR
Shooting high-contrast scenes can often lead to washed out backgrounds and/or details lost in shadow. Backlight Correction HDR helps correct for this by taking three pictures at different exposure settings and processing the best elements of all three into a single image for more natural looking shots.
TransferJet Technology TransferJet technology
TransferJet technology, developed by Sony and advanced and promoted by consortium of 18 other companies, allows the transfer of up to ten files between two TransferJet enabled devices just by touching their TransferJet logos together, without the hassle of hunting for cables or the complication of pairing8.
Works with iMovie Compatible with PC and MAC Systems

Sony's warranty is no good. I bought this camera for my vacation and used it in a pool. The camera leaked and stopped working. When I sent it to Sony they told me that they found corosion and the warranty was void. I told them that it was warranted to be waterproof and if the seals failed it should be covered. They just kept repeating their words and refused to honor their warranty. I will not purch from Sony again. Very disapointed in Sony.

I bought this camera a few months ago and used it quite a bit. But the reason I ordered it was for our most recent trip to the Galapagos. We went snorkeling and I used it on the first and second day and all was good. The third day I used it I noticed that I could not get it to work once in the water. When I got back to the ship I opened it up to take out the batter (figuring that the battery needed to be charged) only to have water come out!! This camera is ruined, along with all of my photos on the memory card. I always made sure that every compartment was closed and sealed before use, so I know it is nothing I did wrong. I am very upset as this was not a cheap camera! I had to buy a Kodak disposable underwater camera to take pictures for the rest of the trip!

First, some background on what I was looking for: I'm a casual photographer. I wanted a waterproof camera which would produce high-quality photos in all settings (indoor, outdoor, and underwater. My intention was to completely replace my 7.2MP Sony DSC-W7, which I LOVE. I wanted to add the underwater feature without compromising on other features. I did not want to spend more than about $400 for everything (camera, two 8GB memory cards (Class 10), two extra batteries with charger, and float strap. This left me with about $340 max to spend on the camera itself. I do NOT know a lot about photography. Terms like "ISO" and "white balance" are foreign to me. I like to use pre-programmed scene modes and auto features. I enjoy digital scrapbooking and I frequently zoom and crop. It takes a very high quality photo to crop out/enlarge a small figure without too much distortion.
I began my search online and spent about 6 hours researching the cameras in my price range. The cameras I focused on most were the Canon D10, Sony TX10, Panasonic TS3 (sometimes referred to as FT3), Olympus TG-810, Olympus Tough 8010, Fujifilm XP30, and Pentax WG-1.
I eliminated most of these options rather quickly based on their reviews, overall ratings, and the quality of photos that I reviewed. I narrowed my focus to the Canon D10, the Sony TX10, and the Panasonic TS3.
I wanted to love the Canon D10, since it seems to be the overwhelming fan favorite, but I ultimately decided that it wasn't going to be a good fit for me. The price of the D10 is similar to the Sony and the Panasonic, but it's a 2.5 year old model which doesn't have HD video. The photo quality seemed about equivalent to the other two, so I decided to only focus on the two models with HD video.

I was very surprised that this camera actually performs fairly well. While there are limited options for manual functionality, it does what it needs to do taking photos. For the casual photographer, does everything you want it to do. It can also be a good companion to a DSLR as well.

The camera's option to support SD & Memory Stick is a great option. No longer do you have to be tied to proprietary Sony MS. This is definitely a step forward.

On with the camera itself, I found that it does not fair well with the flip the lid and take the shot movement. It takes time to startup and focus. This camera takes quite a bit of time to focus on an image.

The preset functions built in are very useful. Different useful modes do tailor to many daily activities. The iSweep, is great for a quick panoramic shot. The superior auto mode along with other preset modes takes several shots and merges them on the camera to produce a better image.

The movie mode is pretty good on the camera. While not as functional as a true video capturing device, this camera does the job at high quality. The ability to take stills, zoom, while recording is a cool feature. I dislike the fact that the camera needs to be in standby mode for a few seconds before recording can begin.

The 3D function is probably gimic'y and requires a 3D tv to view the content. Thus it was useless.

The waterproof feature has yet to be tested. The shockproof wasn't so bad, the camera was dropped, got nicked but still functions properly.

i pre-order the Sony Cyber-Shot tx10 for my wife March 3rd and I received it by UPS on Tuesday, April 5th. I bought her an extra battery and charger from the Sony store in Atlanta, GA right after i pre-order the camera. Only because the store was closing...I paid $10 for the extra battery and $18 for the charger. She original wanted the T99 in purple, comes to find out it was being discontinued, which i am glad caused otherwise she would not have the water proof feature, much as she love to swim. Just purchased a 3D Sony Bravia TV, which is PERFECT cause she can shoot 3D photos which turns out nice. Overall, she wanted this camera because she want something small to keep in her purse at all times. I have a DSLR camera which is kinda heavy and she hates carrying it around. The only downside is the camera does not have black & white photo option, not that she cares caused she don't uses the feature on my DSLR. Overall the camera is AWESOME!!!!!
