HD Movie

Intelligent Scene Recognition
Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects eight different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a Tripod, Portrait, Landscape, and Macro. iSCN has two modes: Auto and Advanced. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advance Mode, the camera takes a photo with the standard automatic settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with optimized setting so you can chose which to keep.

Face Detection technology
Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and controls flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to deliver accurate, natural skin tones with reduced red-eye. It can also give priority to children or adults. Newly added Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and accelerates the shutter speed when facial movement is detected, reducing blur in the subjects face.

Anti-blink Function
It's frustrating to think you've captured that perfect shot, only to review it later and discover one of your subjects blinked just as you pressed the shutter. The new Anti-blink function works to help counter blinking and squinting. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot.

Smile Shutter Technology
The popular Smile Shutter technology automatically detects and captures a smiling face. Simply activate by pressing the Smile Shutter button and the camera will capture a smile the moment it happens. You can also select subject priority (Adult or Child Priority or touch subject on screen) and indicate the degree of Smile Detection Sensitivity to high (small smile), medium (laugh) or low (grin). Smile Shutter also makes a great substitute for the self timer. Just smile once everyone is ready, and the camera will automatically capture the shot.

Double Anti-blur Solution
The combination of Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and High ISO sensitivity helps compensate for camera shake, minimizes blur, and allows flash-free shooting to preserve the mood.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically shifts the lens to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 3200)
High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. In addition to High Sensitivity Mode (ISO), you can select up to eight ISO settings (Auto, 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) when shooting in Program Auto Mode to adjust sensitivity to your shooting conditions.

Dynamic Range Optimizer Standard and Plus
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) Standard and Plus uses a sophisticated algorithm to determine the best exposure and contrast settings for almost any shooting environment. The result is more natural images with clearer details that more closely match what your naked eye sees. DRO is particularly effective when shooting backlit portraits or any scene with a dramatic contrast between background and foreground lighting. DRO Plus allows for even greater optimization by analyzing each region of an image and performing additional image processing.

Convenient Photo Modes
Choose from 14 convenient photo modes to quickly adjust for specific shooting conditions. Photo modes include Auto, Program Auto, Easy Shooting, and Scene Selection such as Smile Shutter, High Sensitivity, Landscape, Soft Snap, Twilight Portrait, Twilight, Beach, Snow, Fireworks, Underwater and Gourmet Mode. After reading some bad reviews about this camera i wasn't sure if it's good enough yet... i own Sony T100 that i got couple years ago (8Mpx camera) so i wasn't sure if this camera is improved enough to replace my older Sony. After hesitation for couple of month i got it for my birthday from a friend. IF I KNEW HOW GREAT THIS CAMERA IS I WOULD BOUGHT IT LONG TIME AGO! this camera is unbelievable! My biggest issue with my older camera is that i never really used those special presets like beach/landscape/portrait/twilight/etc because it was sort of painful to go through menu and change it each time lighting conditions change, to say true for me those features in my old camera were totally useless. This camera - you just put it in auto (iSCN) mode (i put it in iSCN+ mode) and camera always takes dual shots when needed - example, i am shooting a person with a lot of back light, for example against a bright window - this camera will take two shots automatically, first shot is optimal settings as most cameras would set, then second shot with different settings - this is totally awesome because you can later pick what picture to keep and what picture looks good, most of the time i like them both!
Another great picture is smile shutter. i used to use timer on my older T100 to take pictures of me with my partner but then we had only 10 seconds to do that and after each shot i had to run back and put timer again and so on - quite annoying sometimes so i was researching cameras with remotes and found none. Guess what, you don't need one with this camera - your smile is your remote! You can just put this camera on tripod or whatever surface and just smile... this camera will take picture each time you smile, doesn't matter how many times you smile, once you select smile shutter it will keep taking all smiley pictures until you stop!!! this is absolutely fantastic feature!!! very very useful!
Another feature is that this camera automatically detects if you blinked in the camera (only works when face detected) so if you blinked it will take another shot right away automatically!

for me that was enough already, i was like a kid in a candy store but then i took it with me to a beach to test it more...
Picture quality - outstanding, brilliant colors, crisp and simply beautiful.

Video - i read a lot good reviews about the video quality but i didn't expect it to be so crispy, smooth, vibrant and image stabilization quite surprised me - really really nice job Sony! WOW. i Own Sony's new high-end HD camcorder so i like to film with perfect quality but this camera definitely can substitute my camcorder in some situations for sure.

Another fun feature - if you shot someone who doesn't like to smile this camera can make them smile, seriously once you take a picture go to edit and add a smile! crazy! ;)

anyway, if you are looking for a camera that would take really good shots and you like to press only one button (like me) then you may like this camera. I do like my pictures perfect but really cannot see myself changing settings every time i need to take a shot, i'd go crazy if i'd have to do that. I wanted a camera that will self adjust each time i take a shot, example - you are on a tour bus around paris and taking all kinds of shots, then going into cathedral and taking shots in much darker conditions without changing settings - i got all of this with this camera and then some!

Bad things about this camera -
1. battery life sucks so get more, i got 3 generic ones for less than $10 each on amazon and they will be well used on my longer trips... I think this big LCD screen sucks all power from the batteries quickly.
2. In auto mode you cannot switch flash to Fill-In mode, the only two modes available are Auto and Off. I use flash/fill flash pretty much all the time, even on the sunny beach to make pictures look perfect without any hard shadows but now...

Recently got this camera after my wife lost our Samsung TL34HD (which still isn't a bad camera) however this one is light years above anything I have seen! For a point and shoot (literally) it takes amazing pictures. The iSCN feature does a perfect job adjusting to your environment. I just took some pictures today using the High Speed shutter mode and it really looks like you are not only there but can envision what will happen next.

You can't forget the video ... amazing also. I do wish it had a pause recording option (the Samsung did). Takes video in HD quality - I don't have an HD TV but the video is clear and crisp both on the camera and on my PC.

Definitely get a spare battery (does drain quickly since the LCD is your view finder) and a High Speed memory card.

Thanks honey for losing the other camera :)

Excellent!! Great HD video. Very good pictures. We also purchased the 4 GB memory stick (I recommend it). Touch screen on the camera makes life very easy. Light weight camera, stick it in your shirt pocket and go!! The charger is small and user friendly. All in All I love it!! I want to find some cons for you.....maybe picture quality (When blowing up) loses some quality (Not that much). I would buy it again if needed.
