Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture expansive landscapes with Intelligent Sweep Panorama Mode. Press shutter and sweep and the camera does the rest, continuously, shooting images and in one second stitching them together. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to help avoid subject distortion. Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode
Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects nine different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Twilight using a tripod, Portrait, Landscape, Macro, and Close Focus. iSCN has two modes: Auto and Advanced. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep.

Anti-blink Function
It's frustrating to think you've captured that perfect shot, only to review it later and discover one of your subjects blinked just as you pressed the shutter. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting or blinking. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization uses a built-in gyro sensor to detect camera shake and automatically compensates to help prevent blur without sacrificing image quality.

High Sensitivity Mode (ISO 3200)
High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. In addition to High Sensitivity Mode (ISO), you can select up to seven ISO settings (Auto, 125, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200) when shooting in Program Auto Mode to adjust sensitivity to your shooting conditions.

Face Detection helps direct the focus to the subject you want.

Face Detection technology
Sony's Face Detection technology can automatically distinguish between children and adults. Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts flash, focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends.

Motion Detection
Motion Detection, along with Face Motion Detection adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when movement is detected, reducing blur in moving subjects and faces.

Smile Shutter technology
Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. Easy Shooting Mode
With Easy Shooting Mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting Mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices and allowing you to focus on just your subject. I bought this camera just before I went on my honeymoon in Mexico. I specifically wanted a waterproof but stylish camera and this fit the bill perfectly. Over all this camera is pretty easy to use once you got use to the interface. There were a lot of preset options so it was easy to switch from panoramic to low light etc. We took countless panoramics with it which turned out great. The panoramic feature is really easy to use. We went on zip line excursions and rafted through water filled caves. The light in the caves were too low for the camera to work so we had to use the flash which made the background too dark and washed out any people in the photos. We got to zipline through waterfalls and I used the camcorder function to capture it. We took photos under water in the pools at the resort and they come out nicely. A bit of water got under the touch screen after a few trips in the pool. This didn't affect the touch screens functionality but was annoying to look at when reviewing your photos.

After about 2 days being in and out of water, the red paint that covers the slide started to flake off. The camera still worked just fine but I was pretty bummed about the camera being half red and half silver. We got home from the honeymoon and uploaded all of our photos and videos successfully. Then I put the camera away for a month or so and pulled it back out to take on a ski trip. I suppose something happened in the month time frame that the right side of the touch screen stopped working. The right side had all the preset functions so I couldn't switch from low light into any other mode. I sent the camera to Sony repair hoping for them to fix it or replace it. I got a call about a month after I sent it from Sony saying they didn't have the components needed to fix it and that they have ordered them but they would take 3 months to get to the warehouse. They gave me two options, wait 3 months to get my paint chipped red TX-5 or they could send me a brand new TX-9. The TX-9 is a higher model but is not waterproof, which was my main reason for getting the TX-5. I should be getting it in the mail any day now.

Overall I was very happy with the TX-5 performance while it was working. Great point and shoot with some fancy features but easy to use. I'm just really disappointed the TX-5 didn't last very long but I am happy with Sony's customer service. If you need your camera repaired quickly...you might not feel the same.

I bought this for a vacation to Jamaica. Hauled it around constantly and took it snorkeling and in the pool. It's been underwater for a total of about 6 hours or so. No problems. Picture and movie quality is good. It's quite light and compact. The only negatives I can say are that the paint is flaking off of the sliding cover in the front, and I couldn't get the "panorama" mode to work at all.
It's generally good in jittery and low light situations. There were very few blurry photos that came of the more challenging shooting conditions.

I bought this camera for my wife who only usually will take pictures when we are away on a trip. She has found the camera to be most portable & now carries it all the time in her purse. Because of past infrequent use of cameras she had difficulty navigating the different menu items- but with this touch screen it is a different world for her. It is now much easier for her to access the menu options. I think the image quality is very good especially in low light. The battery life is more than adequate & the panaramic feature is marvelous. It is a camera full of features that won't become obsolete in a short time as so many do.
