Cybershot DSC-S700 Highlights

7.2-megapixel Super HAD CCD More megapixels give you more detail and definition when you make big prints or crop in tight on your subject. The advanced Sony Super HAD (Hole Accumulated Diode) CCD design allows more light to pass to each pixel, increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.

3x optical zoom lens 3x optical zoom helps the DSC-S700 bring distant subjects closer and lets you frame shots quickly for better composition -- a real advantage for family sports, outdoor fun and travel photos.

High sensitivity With high sensitivity of ISO 1000, the DSC-S700 gives you better shots in low light so you can shoot without flash to preserve the mood -- great for birthday parties, indoor gatherings and candid portraits.

Stamina battery power With optional Sony NiMH rechargeable batteries, you can capture up to an amazing 460 shots -- shooting capacity that’s about the equivalent of 13 rolls of 35mm film. With supplied AA alkaline batteries, the DSC-S700 can capture up to 100 shots.

24 MB internal memory You don’t need a flash memory card, because the DSC-S700 allows you to capture images with in-camera convenience -- then easily transfer your shots to optional Memory Stick Duo media, upload photos to your computer or make prints directly from the optional Sony Picture Station digital printer.

Memory Stick Duo media convenience The DSC-S700 also has a built-in slot for optional Memory Stick Duo media -- the compact, high-capacity storage media that are compatible with millions of devices worldwide.

Bright, 2.4-inch LCD screen The DSC-S700 provides a bright LCD screen composing shots, checking results, sharing your photos on location and reading camera setup menus even in full sunlight.

Convenient photo modes To adjust quickly for specific shooting situations, the DSC-S700 lets you choose from several convenient photo modes: Auto, P-Auto, and Scene Selections for Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, Snow, High Sensitivity and Beach environments.

QVGA Movie Mode The DSC-S700 can capture 320 x 240 audio/video clips at high frame rate (up to 30 frames per second3), with length limited only by the capacity of your media.

Burst mode You can fire off three shots automatically at 1-second intervals (VGA standard mode) or 2-second intervals (7.2 MP mode) -- a great way to capture a child’s first steps or a pet’s best tricks.

Cyber-shot viewer software New Sony software that makes it easier to upload images from camera or Memory Stick Duo media -- then organize and browse through photos on your PC screen by simply scrolling through thumbnail images.

All in all, it's a very good camera that takes great pictures.

The focus and the click - both on the same button - are highly confusing... it has blurred pictures by changing focus on the subject during clicking.

I recommend for anyone wanting a cheap but good digital camera.

I purchased the Cybershot DSC-S700 for my wife. She loves taking pictures but isn't into complicated gadgets. This camera is easy to use turn it on point and shoot. It has 3X optical zoom capability and additional features that will satisfy most photographers. I believe the Sony DSC-S700 is a great camera for the money and a wonderful gift for the amateur photographer in your family who just wants to capture the moment.

I've only owned Canons before, which I still love, but for the price and features of this camera, I thought I'd try something new. It's very easy to use. Each setting gives you a little onscreen description without you having to dig out the instruction booklet each time. It's point and shoot, takes AA batteries as opposed to lithium ones, and it's small in size so you could tuck it right into your pocket or purse if you wanted. I'm still getting used to the settings myself, but with as easy as it is to review and delete the photos you've already taken, it's not a big deal if I get one or two I don't like in the process. Plus, the clarity of the pictures is fantastic. Great for a first time digital camera owner, or someone who likes to travel light on vacation. And after shopping around, Amazon had the best price.

I'm really glad I purchased this camera when I did because now I can use it to take photos during the holidays. And with the camera bag and battery charger that Sony sells for this camera, it'll be easy to take with me, not to mention comforting to know that I can always recharge my batteries wherever I am if need be. Plus, SanDisk sells compatible memory cards for this camera at affordable prices, so you'll never have to worry about running out of room for photos.

This camera is great for simple, family and or just general shots. The only drawback is that there is no audio playback on the camera itself. Therefore after recording a movie you will have to load it to a PC in order to hear the sound. However you can veiw a recorded movie on the cam, just with no sound.

The Landscape and Macro modes are quite good as well as the program settings, its a great Cam for those wanting to start life in photograpy!

To say I'm disappointed with this camera is a complete understatement. I got this camera for Christmas, and upon my first use was not satisfied with the pictures, but thought it was just a matter of reading the instruction manual and adjusting the settings. I read all of the reviews on here as well as other sites and followed suggestions re: the camera settings, and nothing works. My photos turn out extremely blurry and/or grainy; the color is really off (weird orange-y hue, despite experimenting with the color settings on the camera menu); the flash is too bright for nighttime indoor shots, which are the majority of my photos, even though I decreased the flash brightness. Without fail, if I ask someone else to take the picture, it turns out blurry... the only reason maybe half of the ones I take personally don't turn out blurry is because I literally stop breathing as I push the button knowing that I have to be as still as death in order to get a somewhat precise shot. Sometimes the picture looks like it is fine when reviewing it on the camera's LCD screen, but then when I upload it to my computer it is awful. I'm so frustrated with this camera as I feel I've lost out on some great memories because it is a terrible product. At this point, I doubt we can return it, so it has been a complete waste of our time and money. I definitely would never recommend this camera to anyone.

This camera is a wonderful camera. Considering this camera is a huge upgrade from my little 3.2 Megapixel Kodak camera I've had for well over 3 years. The features on it are nice. It takes better pictures than my little 3.2 at night in a not so lit room. Not the best though. All in all, it's a very good camera that takes great pictures.

Very good product for what it is, my 1 gripe was that there's no sound on video playback with this camera. but at $141.00 compared to the $170 of some of the other 7.2 cybershots I can give up sound on the camera.

Sony Cybershot S700 7.2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical ZoomOK, here's my impressions of this camera. I have never owned a digital camera before. I just wanted a simple point and shoot to take pics for Ebay. I do not care for bells and whistles. I just want to do what a point and shoot is for. I want to take it out of the box and take pics. There are many things to like about this camera. I dropped it twice on a wooden floor from a height of 3 feet and no damage, so it's built tough. The buttons are not very intuitive, but the manual is easy to read and understand. It is easy to load and use the included editing software. I especially like that when you plug the usb cable into the camera, the editing software automatically pops up and asks you if you want to download. Very handy! Someone mentioned it's easy to accidently delete pics. No it's not. You have to first hit the disp button, then the delete button, then tab up to highlight delete, then hit enter. It would be very hard to accidently delete a shot. There are several cons with this camera. One, the usb protector cover is very flimsy rubber, and it's only a matter of time before it breaks. There is little in camera editing available. You can rotate, resize, or reduce red-eye, but that's about it. The included software lets you do this as well, but only has a few more editing tricks. You can adjust brightness, sharpness, tone, or crop. There is an automatic feature which is somewhat usefull. If you're serious about your pics looking their best, you will need a professional software program. Here are my biggest dislikes, which is why I give it 3 stars. A camera should take good pics right?Read more ›
