5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!!!
This is my first Mp3 player and I haven't had the chance to try other brands, so there's no way I can make a comparison between them. But I do have a good idea of what a good Mp3 player should be, and Sony has fulfilled most of my expectations.

3.0 out of 5 stars good but only for mp3 files
This player is great for playing MP3 files. It looks cool and it works as advertised. I love how you can actually see the disk spinning and then spin down when you play mp3s. The flat metal back is perfect for attaching a cell phone belt clip.

The problem is the G-shock. It cannot be turned off. As is the case with most memory buffer anti-shock systems, the music is...

This review is from: Sony D-CJ01 CD Walkman with MP3 Playback (Electronics)
This is my first Mp3 player and I haven't had the chance to try other brands, so there's no way I can make a comparison between them. But I do have a good idea of what a good Mp3 player should be, and Sony has fulfilled most of my expectations.

The Sony Dcj01 was surprisingly light , it's only slightly bigger that a CD and about an inch thick. It takes about 20 to 30 secs to load Cds, it also has a 2 to 4 sec gap in between tracks. If you stop the playback, and as long as you don't remove the Cd, it will start on the exact spot were you stopped it, even if it's in the middle of a track. It plays audio Cds and Mp3 files flawlessly. I download a lot Mp3's from a lot sources, and so far, I've been able to play all of those that I've burned into Cds. It doesn't play back WMA files though, and I'm sure you've read this by now, it can't fast forward or rewind through tracks, but it does have a remote ...

Yes, this unit has a remote control. I'm not sure if the Sony D-cj01s in your area has a remote, I bought mine in the Philippines, and it had a remote with it. The remote is made of plastic, matching the silver color of the player itself, it's shaped like a thin lipstick about 2-1/2 inches long and half an inch thick. It has a one-line LCD display that is Backlit! It has all the functions of the player itself, so you can just set the player on hold, and fiddle away with the remote, it also has a small clip, so you can clip onto your shirt or your belt. The remote has a top that can be twisted. Twist clockwise and it plays, twist it again and it skips to another track, twist it in fast succession to jump through a lot of tracks, twist it counterclockwise and it starts at the beginning of the track again, twist it twice, it jumps back to the previous track, twist it a lot, and it jumps back through a lot of tracks. The top can also be pulled and twisted CW or CCW to adjust the volume control, and finally, you can stop the player by pressing the top. What this means is that you can fiddle with the player's basic functions without having to look at which button to push! It also has 5 other buttons that let you adjust the Display, Play Mode, Repeat/Enter, Sound, and Pause, and it also has a Hold switch.

What can you expect from Sony? The sound was phenomenal! There is no silent hiss, the bass felt good and heavy. Even with the volume turned way uuuuup, there was no noise distortion. All of my files have a minimum bitrate of 112 though, I don't know how it would perform with mp3's with very low bit rates. The Earbuds that came with it were pretty good, in terms of sound quality, but my ears gets sore after an hour or so... I think the earbuds were too big for me.

The G protection has two settings, so far, I've only used the first setting and it was more than enough, I've tried shaking it, jumping with it, running with it, it just won't skip!!!

The unit came with it's own rechargeable batteries, and the ac adaptor serves as it's charger, Neat! It can also use AA alkaline batteries. Sony claims up to 24 hrs. for Mp3's and I guess that's true, I've used this unit for about 13 hours, and the battery indicator is still at half.

Overall, I'm very very satisfied with this player, solid construction, nice design, high quality sound, unskippable G-protection, and a killer remote. Buy It!!!

Pros
Excellent sound quality
Excellent G-protection
Reads most Mp3's(I've still yet to encounter a file that it can't play back)

Rechargeable batteries included
Batteries can be charged by the unit itself
Stylish and functional remote with backlight

Cons
Can't fast forward or rewind through a song
Has a 2 to 4 secong gap in between songs(I think most players have this)
Can't read WMA files

Note
I think the Sony D-cj01s sold in Asia and Europe? has the remote and the rechargeable batteries included, while those sold in America do not. Of course I'm not sure about this, it might be better if you check it first before buying it. If this unit didn't came with a remote, I would probable give it a 3.5 star rating.

This mp3/cd player is really great in my opinion. I have put the albums i listen to most all on one cd-r and i think thats really cool. The mp3 cd's load pretty fast too.
Pros:
Good sound quality
Fast mp3 loading time
Pause button!![.]
Id3 tagging support
Also, the cd starts from where you left off as long as you leave it in there, so if you have one mp3 cd that you listen to all the time, it only has to load up once
Included AC adapter
cons:
no ff or rw on mp3 tracks

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD Player!, October 29, 2002

The remote is definetly worth buying if you buy this player. The player has great sound and I lov the mp3 playback. I can fit 14 CD's onto 1! Its like having a virtual CD changer! It is really easy to use and the remote makes it even easier! It is very inexpensive and much better quality than the RIO version. It never skips. Infact, the CD completly stops when it is done reading. It stores it in its memory. The ID3 taging is great. It displays all of the CD information. I love the displays. It can be a little pricy but if money is not an option definetly get the C-DJ01 with the RM-MC11ELs remote control. If you do not want the remote, you do not need it, but it controls every single feature on the CD player so you do not have to take it out of your pocket when yuo want to change tracks. It is "nifty" as one of my friends said. I would definetly recommend it and it is worth all the money. I'd rate it 11 out of 10.

I listen to music all the time, i make cd's and mp3 continously. I have this with me all the time and it has never let me down. In the car, airplane, and when i am just walking.
The screen is big and convient. U change all the settings and do watever u want.
IN the US it doesnt come with remote but in europe and asia it does. I did not get the remote and i do not need it.
I would definitally recomend it, it never skips and plays all mp3's. The sound is great and loud...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good player, but not perfect., February 15, 2003
By

I have owned this player for several months, and use it quite a lot. I use rechargable Nickle Metal Hydride batteries, listen to MP3 files on a CD-RW disc.

Pros:
Long battery life
CD-RW MP3 playback
Digital Controls, including volume
Has never skipped
Text Display
Adjustable Bass levels
Buttons to skip folders
Random Play

Cons:
Hard to use controls if you can't see them (flat buttons)
Can't get remote for US model (and no backlit display)
Can't fast forward through part of MP3 song like a WAV
No belt clip-only wrist strap

Overall, it's been a good player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beats the competition, November 15, 2002

Listen, you get what you pay for is one of those laws of nature like gravity. Believe me. I first bought the Riovolt for about 45 bucks after rebate. So flimsy. I took it back and shelled out some serious jack, serious for me, to buy this D-CJ01. The difference clearly shows. Solid construction, skip-free and no strange buzzing sounds when I hook it up to my car system. Only gripe, can't get it to play CD-RW's. But that's okay. I love everything else about it including it's smart, transparent cover. Look, here's reality. Somethings you can buy cheap and they work fine. CD/MP3 players are not one of these things. Spend the extra dough. The price is the first thing you'll forget about a purchased item.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD player will become your best friend, August 5, 2003

First of all, the person before me said it. This CD PLAYER DOESNT DIE! I have dropped the thing countless times- and I mean BAD falls onto concrete and tile and such, and each time it made me shudder; but it still works perfectly!! I cant see how you can engineer something to be that drop-proof. Anyways moving on. The sound is of course nothing below excellent (provided you arent using the bundled headphones), and it should be for a Sony product. It's very easy to browse your MP3-CD if you use those, which I do. You can put all your MP3's in separate folders and you can navigate each folder with the touch of a button. It's really nice. Also, it can recharge its own batteries (if you bought rechargables) which is a big plus. The only thing that might get on your nerves is that stupid beep when you switch a track or pause or press any other playback related button; and its an annoying task to shut it off. It's a small price to pay though obviously. Bottom line: I love this CD player and I know you will too. Excellent sound quality like I said before, and best of all you cant kill this CD player (if you try then you are one sick BLEEP). There are millions of CD players to choose from, but if you are considering this one, it will never dissapoint or let you down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Look no further if you problems with dropping your cd player, April 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Sony D-CJ01 CD Walkman with MP3 Playback (Electronics)
First of all, I'm not gonna bother writing about all of the excellent features this cd player has, as there are several well written reviews on them already and it would be pointless for me to start.

But.... the one thing I would like to add is that I have always had a problem with dropping and breaking my cd players. Well, about two weeks after I got this, I was running, the thing fell out of my sweatshirt pocket and was smashed onto the ground hard, it bounced several times, and it left some permanent marks and big scrapes on it. I thought that was it.... I just bought a ... cd player and its dead.

BUT NO!!!!! The friggin' thing is still working like new! Its even survived several smaller drops. But put it this way... that fall it took was about as bad as it could get. If this thing could survive that, then it can survive anything.

So if you you want a VERY durable CD player.... look no further!

5.0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD, WHAT A CD PLAYER!!!!, November 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sony D-CJ01 CD Walkman with MP3 Playback (Electronics)
I bought this CD walkman before the summer of 2002. AND Oh my god, the player is sssooo good. The sound quality is AMAZING!!! Like a stereo going in your head. The player is sssooo strong. I drop maybe 100 times and it played like new. Though I droped it a lot, NO CRACK!!! I never used the MP3 but I think it could have been cool. It was sssoooo easy to use, I never even read the instruction book. ALSO, with the batteries, you can use the player for like a month. LAST, the style looks AWESOME!!!! I recently lost it and was soo bumed out. But I bought a newer version which almost looks exactly like it but better. The new CD player that I bought is Sony D-NE710 ATRAC3/MP3 CD Walkman Portable Disc Player.
